Maybe he’ll break out of jail and run off to North Korea. The entertainment factor of having our president hiding from his own government in another country would be off the charts.

Ya, I gotta agree.  His track record would make him one helluva deep plant if we is working Russian side.
No, I think we got a guy who is just wrung out and really tired of being tired, and scared all the time.  I mean from his viewpoint maybe it is all doom and gloom.  We do need to keep trying to use and source facts though.  This cannot simply become an opinion pulpit.  In fact if he has corroboration I would very much like to see it.  We do need to accept that if Russia has a breaking point then Ukraine has one too.  I am not seeing it but he definitely is - I am just not sure how he got there.

I did 20+ years in the US Army. I went to Desert Storm and did 2 tours in Iraq. You have no idea at all about our professionalism and our capabilities. You know even less about Americans and what we will or will not fight for. Drop this stupid argument, and let's get back on topic.

They actually did go and fight and die in those countries.  WTF are you even thinking?  Dude you are really into an alternate history world now.

There's been plenty of examples of a weak and brittle nation on the brink of collapse over the past half century. Afghanistan and South Vietnam being the most obvious examples. Ukraine reminds me more of South Korea than either of those countries. Definitely not perfect to be sure but with a strong sense of national will and the determination to fight for their country. Hell, Ukraine is even better than the ROK was. People are seriously talking about Zelensky losing an election during an existential war while absolutely nobody would have thought that about Rhee Syngman or Park Chung-hee.

You forgot frogs.  These things always come with frogs falling from the sky.  Well every forum needs a guy with the cardboard sign portending “The End is Nigh”…

Just call this what it is…flat out racism.  I mean it boils down to white versus brown/black(sigh).  A quick internet search shows that “Muslim hordes” in Europe constitute about 5% of the population and may grow to a Christmas-killing 8% by 2030.  Meanwhile European demographics are cratering - and we point fingers at China (insert rolly eyes).
But we all know they will marry all our (white) women and steal our jobs (the ones we cannot fill anyway).
What is truly baffling is the level of complete inability to see that this position leads directly to “so we are spending billions to keep Ukraine racially pure…wait, what?”  Seriously guys from Ukraine, have a freakin meeting or something.  So far we have had bleak defeatism, shaming-guilt,  fear mongering and now outright racism.  I know things are bad but how is any of this going to make things better?

To claim that multiculturalism is "Babylon" is a universal precursor to every version of fascist authoritarianism and the idea that cultural change via immigration destroys nations runs up against the obvious example of America as a superpower. Your approach to this subject is flat out Putinist.

who told you that HIMARS can be stopped with the help of electronic warfare? The main guidance system of these missiles is inertial (the same as that of the Shahed UAV). GPS is used only for INS correction.
I think that the regularity of HIMARS missile attacks on Russian positions indicates the opposite.

Shahed is not controlled by a person from the ground; it does not have a control channel or video signal. He flies along a pre-programmed route. It is controlled by a gyroscopic autopilot. It has very poor maneuverability due to small steering surfaces

UKR using Drone mothership to drop off a group of FPV drones closer to  AO.
How long before thus used against the BSF, or at large scale for next UKR offensive..

That's why it's AR goggles (as @Fenris points out).  It would be an overlay of the stuff you can't see through the smoke and terrain, like a heads up display.  So it wouldn't be taking your eyes off anything - it puts your eyes on things behind obstacles when you look that way.  There were people already developing this more than a decade ago.

Lol, true. But is that really any different to the freight-haulage service they're already providing for JTACs?

I imagine tactical glasses or goggles doing augmented rather than full virtual reality could be helpful.  Have to keep the HUD very simple, compass at the top of the viewed area, red dots show range/direction of enemies etc.  Most games have stuff like this already so no need to re-invent the wheel.  I wouldn't be surprised if we see things like this is our lifetime with a human operated drone per squad to start with and then eventually autonomous drones and finally drone networks doing precision weapon guidance at range with human infantry only moving in to mop up.
Edit to add - the precision weapons will include swarms of available killer drones waiting to strike, like the allies did with the cab rank system after Normandy.  The beginnings are here, I'll just link this, the second clip is longer and includes the first.  It's graphic footage of drones striking infantry as seen from another surveillance drone.

It's not just the low velocity - lots of things you want to see with radar (like tanks, trucks, ships, and periscopes) aren't moving at 200+ mph relative to their background.  Drones just plain have a small radar cross section - somewhere between a barn owl and a vulture, and much lower than typical big metal things of a battlefield.  They're also small enough that even if you're able to detect one at significant range, it could be smaller than the resolution of your radar system.  So you'd know it's inside of a particular volume, but if you're shooting at it you need to fill the cross-section of the volume with anti-drone projectiles separated by a spacing smaller than the drone.

Won’t that create an environment even more dangerous for people?  I mean if one can 3-D print a cheap smart missile that can find, track and hit a small UAS through the trees, why would I point it at a UAS and not troops and vehicles?  A little micro-missile like that could target individual soldiers and be carried by a UAS firing from standoff.  Or ground launched from any number of systems including new smart mine system.
If we can solve for small fully autonomous UAS to any significant level, we have a new whole set of problems by whatever does the solving.

And much of those $76B are dollars that were spent in previous years to build equipment that was sent and won't be directly replaced by new production of the same or similar equipment.  That's some value that's being carried on the books for that equipment, and most of it won't be replaced by new orders. Most of it will likely be replaced on a schedule similar to when it would have been replaced by new designs/technologies anyway.  The artillery shells and recent model rockets of various sources are the things most likely to be replaced by new spending.

I was a little hesitant to advertise my own tool here but... given that I actually promised to deliver it in this thread some 2000 pages ago, the cold season is now in full swing (time for making maps and actually playing CM!) ... and we were discussing means by which aliens would invade recently:
If you are interested in automatically generating maps from OpenStreetMap data, CMAutoEditor now has a profile for CMBS. "Automatically" means, CMAutoEditor converts OpenStreetMap data into CM tiles and generates the map by automatizing the clicking in the Scenario Editor.
Let's just keep in mind that depicting actual places in an actual war might be a sensitive topic, especially for the Ukrainian forumites, so be a little circumspect when doing that. Still, if it is not asking too much, if someone knows about good elevation data for Ukraine (i.e. not globally available satellite data like SRTM or ALOS), please contact me.

I'm just glad I managed to shoehorn hypothetical alien bacteria as an interstellar civilizational handshake medium into a forum on the Ukraine war. Pretty dang chuffed right now, tbh. Screw you, forum search algorithms!

And the net doesn't even need to be connected across spans to foul a propeller - there just needs to be a bunch of threads hanging down that can get wrapped around the axle as it spins.  So you really have to make an actual hole through the net - you can't just cut a bunch of junctions like a raccoon cutting through deer fence.

The kind of thing you'd see in a US made eastern European road-trip comedy of the 80s.
