1. Watch the arty is RIGHT!! Last night at end of close fought game, My adversary was advancing on my crumbling defenses, we both had ALOT of artillery. He had as part of his load out 8", those bad babies sound like freighttrains coming home to roost!! Anyway, he is advancing w/ 1 Priest and 3 TD's. 8" comes in a bit short, BOOM all 4 are knocked out. Great theatre! Didn't change the outcome, but raised the troops morale before the ultimate surrender. ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86

 9. Oops missed it........now 102,446 in combined CM forums, way to go guys. There is enough verbiage, hot air, anal retention, sheer knowledge, ego and chutzpah that you all must be LAWYERS. just kidding....... ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86 [This message has been edited by jdmorse (edited 08-24-2000).]
 10. Another point just occurred to me. Usually, the "dead body advocates" say in the interest of realism. Since most firefights are 30-60 minutes long, w/ groups going in and out of C&C and every account of combat I see talks about the mass of confusion and since CM is not a game on the one person level, then not having complete, god's eye view of everything, IS being "realistic". Heaven knows I have had enough tanks taken out by something I haven't spotted or have a clue. Sh*t happens and that's realistic. ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by JoePrivate: I keep on reading references for a planned CM:BO expansion pack yet a search(long!) has revealed not one word where BTS has said they are or will be making one. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

From what I remember I don't think there has been talk of expansion packs from BTS (other than the patches we are seeing) Mods are being left int he "sort of" hands of third parties. I say sort of because some of the mods are being done by people who contributed to the game. Rather I expect CM2 to be it's own stand-alone game. ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Colonel_Deadmarsh: I'm not happy about the fact that dead bodies aren't shown on the screen.

Ahh Colonel, sir....not sure you must be playing the beta demo, I believe the Gold demo (at least w/ 1.02 patch) and the full game does have markers. A single figure on their back w/ a leg raised. You have to remember that the squads are abstracted somewhat. However a ongoing update occurs during action. If you click on squad you see the unit status of effectives and it changes as action happpens. FYI this had been extensively discussed prior to release of Gold demo and BTS listened and put it in, part of their ongoing committment to the consumer ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86 [This message has been edited by jdmorse (edited 08-23-2000).]
 13. Small black objec, huh? Sounds like a little 'zook man snuck up your tuckus. Don't want to hang too close. Sometimes they pull off amazing shots ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86
 14. With the influx of new people in this forum, Increasingly there has been complaints from people about how they have been treated. I just want to publicly state (I know a lawyer with a sense of community touchie feelie- whoda thunk!!) thanks to all of us who have been helpful, both on and off the board in answering questions and being approachable. Frankly I have found a universal willingness to help and assistance with questions and suggestions. Even from some of the "gruffer" members. TO NEW MEMBERS: Don't get in a huff if it 'seems' that someone was a bit curt in a response or suggests searching. Fact is people here are willing to help [Well the Peng thread is a different matter....there love hurts!!] but there are all sorts of personalities and styles, both flippant and serious, pendantic and curt in this forum.Frankly ir adds to the charm. It has been suggested to lurk for awhile to get a sense of what's going on who these people are. This IS a community and a very helpful one at that. But don't get in a huff because you didn't like someone's answer. A number of times I have seen someone complaining of some offense and on reading the question and response I either can't see what they are so upset about or or it's obvious why they got the response they did. ========= Okay group hug time ========= ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86 [This message has been edited by jdmorse (edited 08-23-2000).]
 15. FYI for CE as well as ANY scenario........keep your armor at LEAST 200+ meters from any woods or location that might shelter a bazooka or panzerfaust Many a newbie has come to grief getting a little too close.... 16. Problems crop up w/ multiple games and similar sounding names, esp if it's late (yawm) and ESP if you forgot which one is incoming and what's outgoing. I found a rather elegant solution from various sources. Each game is assigned a number (01, 02, 03 etc) then an identifier (JD Mark) (southofSword) ( even Quick Battle) something to jog the memory. Then sequentially number an exchange, so a game file would look like 03 JD Mark #23, the return file is 03 JD Mark #24. When the opponet processes the turn, all he has to do is change the last digit (or two) in the email screen. This system has several advantages. First the numbers rank the turns in sequential groups in the folders, next you will be either consistenly even or odd once you are underway. It doesn't mix up w/ differing names. It groups all turns in line and you can see whether the last received file is yours to send or theirs to be played. Greatly helps in tracking down turns when you forget to send or some thing screws the data. ** Note the first two digits can be anything. So if there is a conflict w/ another players current game roster then just assign a mutually agreed number. Once the game ends, the numbers are of course available to assign to a new game ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86

 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Blue Macs: is this the same on a mac, as i do not know of bmp directories, do i just put in data folder BM

Blue Macs....I am afraid in some ways we are the eternal orphans, forever destined to have our faces pressed against the glass as our PC brethern have Xmas after Xmas. (okay whining over) The Mac and PC use different formats. The Mad-dog mods 1 are in a mac format at CMHQ and well worth it. There a couple of people working on converting some of the files for us but not the blizzard for the pc's that we see. Sigh. Once you DL'd the mods put the sound/graphic units in your data folder. However, again, the .bmp's and .wav's do not work with the Mac. DOOM stalks Morse at every moment of his terror-filled day from hereon.

It is soooo embarrassing when a "senior" member slips out of the home, and goes running down the street, stark naked, drooling and yammering. Perhaps Lawyer will consult w/ Dr. Fionn about adjusting his meds.....I'm sure a nice cocktail can be brewed to take care of our little "problem". Lawyer, you are already beaten, you just don't know it yet. Kind of like the Stegosarus, your hind brain hasn't cottened that your head is off. And that is only after your set up! I had to lure Fionn, you think YOU are a challange? Well only to the addled and weak minded perhaps. As to Fionn, I shall take care of him quite nicely. Lets see, research into his past AAR's, 3.5 hours @$475, then there is the "interoffice consultation" and expert depositions, interogatories and of course the motions and collateral suit re subverting of the extradition treaties.......I think our esteemd Mr. Fionn will rue the day he impetously offered THIS challange. Of course as to the game, he may whip my ass, but Lawyers, NEVER go away. ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86
 22. Fionn: I welcome the opportunity to meet you on the field of combat. That being said, as a lawyer you know I have no soul, conscience, or feelings of compassion. I shall not offer nor accept any quarter. You have quite a rep around here and we shall see if I can sully it a bit. I shall send you a setup per your suggestions upon getting home tonight. Worse nightmare? I think not. That's my ex wife. Rather, I detect a certain note of cocky over confidence. Interesting, very interesting. Prepare to be humbled my good man. The law is a harsh mistress, and perhaps a taste of her lash is something you deserve, you naughty monkey. 24. I have been brooding in my sanctum sanctorum obessing over the disrespect, nay verbal disparagemment lawyers have been taking on this forum. It is time, I say to set things aright. Remember we, of the legal profession defend passionately (for a fee of course) your rights to be slack assed posterboys or zombie eyed CM addicts (mainly in divorce court but that's another matter) You, whether you know it or not need us. (hmm that should be sufficiently inflammatory) So, if any of you have suppressed sublimated longings to abuse your lawyer, but were afraid to, then I shall serve as a straw dog. Of course if you win I shall immediately file suit alleging tortious infliction of mental distress. So send me your set up and I shall pro hac vici, res ipsa loquitur, de minimus non curat lex, respond with my minions of darkness, dressed in pinstripe, the feared brief in hand, to bury you under paper, interogatories, request for productions, motions, appeals and the occasional move. Be forwarned said litiga..er combat may take years until only one is left standing. Are you man enough to take on a Public Defender of Truth , Justice and the American way? ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86
 25. I love mortars, esp hidden from LOS(they attract quick attention otherwise) the 60mm / 2 inchers are okay, but the 81mm, ahhhh. At least up until v1.03 they have been very effective as an antitank weapon. I haven't yet seen how the patch changes things. Generally, if it is something I'd call offboard arty down on, I use the mortar. And if that AFV is just sitting there, trying to hide, it's death from above baby ------------------ "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers" -- King Henry VI, Part II, Act 4, sc.2, l.86
