1. I've searched several threads on opponent finding. most were quite old. TGN, however does list CM in it's opponent finder list by now. What strikes me, though, is that only ten people are registred there. And none of those seem to be regular visitors of this forum. Is there another opponent finder thingy that I'm missing here? Could somebody help me out. I desperately need to finetune my skills against a human opponent. Anyone who's out for a quick victory against a multiplayer-newbee can email me right away. got some time to kill this weekend anyway... Thanks in advance!
 2. SS said: --------------------------- WhatI would like to know is: In the final version can fire spread (...), or one building to another. --------------------------- Would be cool, but would also need it's limitations. You wouldn't want a whole forest to catch fire on a hot and sunny day, and not only because your CPU won't like it. Your troops might not like it either. 3.
quote:
Originally posted by iggi: Show me just one picture with long hair

Actually, (and this is quite funny, and also absolutely not true) I once read (mid eighties, I believe) an extremely cheapo Dutch tabloid paper that featured an article plus picture of a bearded and longhaired "German," complete with helmet and greatcoat. This man was claimed to be stationed in the Dutch "Waddeneilanden" Atlantikwall section (virtually non existant) and had only just found out the war was over and left his bunker. He looked like a hippy that had been standing in the rain too long.

 5. Very good indeed. I, for one, am already tired of constantly having to dig deep into my Favorites Folder everytime I want to switch sites. And the list keeps growing!! Almost worth the trouble building a site just to join the ring. Don't worry, I won't. [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 05-05-2000).]
 6. Recently I played LD vs the computer. I played the Allies, and managed to keep my men relatively quiet until my reinforcements showed up. The Germans sent one Stu left (off the road) and kept the other one close behind the Tiger on the road. As soon as my AFV's arrived, I started blasting away at the German tanks. The Stu on the road got Ko'd by the first hit. The shell intended for the Tiger breaks up. At that point (this is all going rather simultaneously) The Tiger seems to panic and reverses right into the Stu, pushing it several meters up the road. I know tanks are capable of doing this, but what I want to know is: is this feature indeed intentional? Come to think of it, can you push wrecks off the road??
 7. Except on Soviet propaganda posters I don't think I have EVER seen a bearded German soldier...
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by Ol' Blood & Guts: Or maybe some people go to movies for entertainment value rather than nit-picking through minor details and historical inaccuracies.

True, true, but if I see a movie and spot, for instance, that SS troops have their arm patches on the wrong arm it just isn't right. I'll give you a totally unrelated example. Last week I got bored and Space Jam was on TV (I happen to like WB cartoons). When I saw Bugs Bunny's first appearance I thought: It moves like Bugs, it acts like Bugs, but he doesn't sound like him. Therefore that Bugs Bunny was a fake, a doppleganger, and not the real one (bugs Bunny died when Mel Blanc did). Switched it off immediately... If you're gonna do it do it right, methinks... ------------------ Juju
 9. Still, the tactic is valid. Used it succesfully against several game AI's. But then again, computer AI usually doesn't know what reverse slope defence is EVEN if you hit it in the face with it. Sad but true fact is I've never played a PBEM game in my life, so anyone interested in "teaching me a lesson," by all means, Email me!! ------------------ Juju

 11. I've had this problem before too a year ago. A TNT and a voodoo1. Kept it to play the earlier version of Unreal, but it resulted in some nasty glitches in several other games. Maybe some hardware conflict or somesuch. Anyway, after removing the voodoo1 everything worked fine again. Uninstalling may be your only option. Good luck ------------------ Juju

 13. Thanks James! I'll check it out a.s.a.p. ------------------ Juju
 14. I'm not sure how this is going to work in the final game, but I have this plan to convert an old boardgame that I have into a CM "operation" (i.e. linked scenarios covering, say, 3 or 4 days). This game (Objective Schmidt) focuses on the US 112th Infantry Regiment's assault on the town of Schmidt, and the German counterattacks by the 89th Infantry and 116th PzDivision from November 2nd to 6th, 1944 taking place in the Hurtgen forest However, I've already encountered several problems. The first one is this. There is call for 'a portion of map' (the Kall trail, this was designated the main divisional supply route, and axis of advance. It was totally unsuited) that first needs to be occupied by US troops. That's easy. Then I need some Engineers to 'improve the trail,' meaning that it, within 24 hours, becomes semi-passable, and later fully passable for armoured vehicles (tanks in this case). The problem here is that I need a portion of the map to change between Impassable to semi-passable to fully passable between two or three scenarios. Does that mean I have to create a new map and edit it, and is it indeed posibble to use a different map in (technically) the same scenario? OK, second problem. more interesting I think. Any US unit that made it past this Kall trail I just mentioned crosses the Kall, a small, but impassable stream (there's a bridge of course). After that they need to be supplied via the Kall trail (originally using Weasels, but I don't even know if they're in the game. not much point really...). The Germans won't like that and are guaranteed to take steps. Ammo might be expended faster than expected. And supplies may not be able to arrive... So how would that work? Supplies may, or may not arrive in a given scenario. Which means that if you play as the US player and lose the Kall trail, or your precious weasels, you may, or may not have a supply of ammo for the next scenario. Would it be possible (it sounds really Panzer General, I know) to have multiple 'scenariolinks' depending on the outcome. In the sense that if you win 'scenario 1' you will continue with 'scenario 1A,' whereas if you'd lose you'd continue with 'scenario 1B?' I know it's all a bit chaotic, and maybe I don't make a lot of sense, but I hope you all catch my meaning, and can supply me with some answers. ------------------ Juju [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 04-20-2000).]
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by mch: Girlfreinds,S/O's,etc..and Computer games? that's nothin'....... Board Wargames and Housepets..... THAT'S A PROBLEM!!!!!!

I'll say! There's this attraction that cats have for counters and dice that just happen to lie around on that table they're not supposed to jump violently on. And stuff. As for girls: I really wouldn't be able to give her the attention she'd probably deserve. And if someone happens to come along (I'm damn choosy) I'll make very sure she knows what she's getting into: If you check my hobbies you'll find that most of my hobbies involve only 1 person: me. Even the 'sleeping' part. I just happen to like sleeping, OK! ------------------ Juju
 16. Nothing that heroic for me: just a double abbreviation of my first name, Which I don't like, and won't mention. After 17 years of usage only my father isn't fully trained in calling me Juju. Yet... ------------------ Juju
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Offwhite: Ha ha - I loved Ambush (paper version) right up until I was sent to paragraph 898: An ugly dragon, with blood dripping from his teeth, enters the map from the north in hex T1. He is hungry for meat and wants your squad for his next meal. Your men draw his attention with rifle fire. Then Sarge yells, "No free lunch today, slimeball!" as he polishes him off with a bazooka round between the eyes.

Well, I never! I just checked and thats Exactly what the paragraph says! Tsk. go figure. Needless to say I never had the pleasure of encountering that particular dragon. Last month I got so bored with waiting for CM to come, I even started playing Ambush again. It just didn't feel the same anymore. Ah well. Thanks, Offwhite, for that bit of nostalgia. ------------------ Juju
 18. That's the way... See how easy it is. ------------------ Juju
 19.
quote:
I'm kinda short on that kinda dramatic music PeterNZ

You want Dramatic? You try Wagner! Hitler would have loved it, and I bet Patton too! ------------------ Juju
 20. C'mon guys! Quit teasin' CooColJ for losing his latest work. He's doing a great job here and it's a real bummer losing your stuff this way, and don't we all know it! ------------------ Juju
 21. Actually, I've been hanging around here for a couple of months (now and again), as I'm sure others have. What made me register was the sheer enthousiasm and devotion of all you, erm, 'senior members,' my daily visits to CMHQ, and the way this game has developed. It certainly very much worth all the attention it gets. ------------------ Juju
 22. 35 here! I think my first 'wargame' was Ambush, a solitaire squadlevel boardgame. It was tacky, but man, did I have fun! ------------------ Juju
 23. SP1, CC2, PG1. Also worth mentioning are: Pacific Air War, Carriers at war, and the good old B17 Flying fortress (watch out for B17 II! It's coming. Well, soon, anyway, I hope) However, if I'd have to choose I'd choose SP1. It's a while ago, but I played that one to death. ------------------ Juju
 24. The Jumbo's gun is just too puny. I'd say I'd go for the Firefly. Even without a bow MG. Looks nicer too!!
