  1. Guachi said something about different types of Shermans. I dug up some info. It's probably far from complete, and may even be inaccurate, but here goes: (I'll keep the special characteristics short cos though chassis types don't change as often, turret types differ a lot, as well as guns and armor. otherwise it'd be a bit timeconsuming. Oh, and by the way TT: means Turret Type 01: M4 (no loader hatch TT:A) 02: M4 (oval loader hatch/smoke mortar TT: 03: M4 (as 2: with vision cupola TT:C) 04: M4A1 (no loader hatch TT:A) 05: M4A1 (oval loader hatch/smokemortar TT: 06: M4A1 (as 5: with vision cupola TT:C) 07: M4A3 (no loader hatch TT:A) 08: M4A3 (oval loader hatch/smoke mortar TT: 09: M4A3 (as 8: with vision cupola TT:C) 10: M4A3(75)W (oval loader hatch/smoke mortar TT ) 11: M4A3(75)W (as 10: withvision cupola/wet stowage/HVSS TT:E) 12: M4A3E2(75)W 'Jumbo' (as 11: TT:F) 13: M4A3E2(76)W (as 11: TT:F) 14: M4A1(76)W (as 11: except split loader hatch and loader AA MG mount TT:G) 15: M4A1(76)W (as 11: TT:H) 16: M4A3(76)W (as 14: TT:G) 17: M4A3(76)W (as 16: TT:H) 18: don't know if this one counts, really: VC 'Firefly' (british "knockout" Sherman variant: no assistant driver, no bow MG, oval loader hatch, smoke mortar) Well, it's late on my part of the globe. Sure hope you don't already know all this, Guachi! Nighty night ------------------ Juju [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 03-29-2000).]
  2. Sorry Fionn, but I do have to agree with Thomm a bit here. Detail is all very fine, but when I play the demo I don't usually view turns in the closest view-mode available. Don't get me wrong. The intro still kicks, and I'm not looking for a formation of tanks, but, and you can't deny this, the scenery, oh, the scenery would also be great. trees and fog, and fog of war, of course. Imagine the fogged landscape, at, say, viewmode 3 or 4, zoom and pan, and suddenly, out of the fog emerges a big brute of a Tiger II. Maybe it's nighttime, even, a steady drizzle coming down. AT guns opening up, muzzle flahes and tracers everywhere. It seems I strayed a bit from my original point, but you smell what i'm cookin', right? ------------------ Juju
  3. Hey BigAlMoho! About your Hurtgenwald suggestion: Don't know if you're into good ole boardgames as well. If yes, you should try to get your hands on a copy of "Objective Schmidt." It's an excellent, though somewhat complex, boardgame (1990) made by a company called "The Gamers." It focusses on the Kall-trail and the little town of Schmidt. And let me assure you: the Germans didn't like the Hurtgenwald any better than the Americans did. More on the Hurtgen thingy: read charles Whiting's "Siegfried, The Nazi's last stand" (1982) Since I'm telling you this, and this thread is about "large" battles: If you like 'em, like, REAL big, try "Omaha, The Bloody Beach," also by'The Gamers.' This game is so huge I haven't been able to play it through it's main scenario, simply because I lacked the space to use the full map (140x112cm), and the time to complete it, what with about 750 counters per side to fight with. Pheww anyway, enough already! ------------------ Juju
  4. Yeah, 20 tanks per side AND lots of room to manouver them in, please! ------------------ Juju
  5. Way to go!! Best news, and intro, we could hope for!! Thanks. By the way, someone suggested 'kill rings' around tank barrels some time ago. Well, they're there allright (on the two Tigers about halfway through the movie). Another fine example that BTS is really listening to gamers! Initiate Countdown Sequence y'all!! Juju
  6. BITE ME! Awll riiiighty!! What do you mean, too hard? What about if you actually win? It sounds really awesome (apart from the 'staying-awake-for-36-hours' bit, that is)! I'd like to pre-order 'BITE ME'! Can I? Huh? Huh? Can I, please? Hey, MadMatt! When does this game of yours go gold? I can hardly wait! , Juju
  7. Close Combat? Why, we need to invent a new shortcut here, it seems. How's about RTT: Real Time Tactical! Everybody happy now? Easy as apple pie, Juju
  8. Hi there I have a similar book on Nazi-insignia. It's called 'Nazi Regalia' by E.W.W. Fowler (1992 Bison Books Ltd.). apart from numerous insignia, uniforms and medals, it also contains some very interesting other stuff. I haven't checked out if it's still available. I'll leave that up to you. Good luck, Juju [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 03-22-2000).]
