2. I was just wondering... Just how many users does this great forum have, and could you give us an update of the number of Gold Demo downloads? Just interested, you know. Thanks in advance!
3. AAAARRRGGGHHHH!!! possible spoiler I guess <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> Okay, the basics are explained elsewhere. They're quite clear, but I still have a problem. I play the Valley as Germans, and both my mortars are in command of the Company Commander, and they haven't been moved at all. The problem is that the mortar's range is limited by the maximum weapon range of the spotting HQ. As soon as I target a spot OUT of the HQ's weapon range my mortars target a spot near the church instead, but hold their fire. I'm obviously doing something wrong here, but I can't figure out what. They're not much use that way. Any help would be much appreciated! [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 05-13-2000).]
4. Whatever you do (especially against human opponents): EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!
5. I got a higher resolution only by setting my desktop resolution higher (and deleting the pref file of course). Doesn't run too smooth though at resolutions higher than 800x600 on my C466 with 16MB TNT1
6. sniperscope! We have been fortunate to witness the dawn of a new era in wargaming. Praise be! I'm not sure if you can jump from unit to unit, but you can jump from spot to spot by CTRL-clicking on the location you want centered. [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 05-12-2000).]
7. Say, I like this 'swapping ole war stories!' I suspect plenty there's more where this came from, but sadly it's spread over an increasing number of threads. Maybe we should devote a special thread to this. Or one of the growing number of CM sites could devote a page to it, titled 'Letters from the frontline' or somesuch.
8. Not really an AI trick, but rather a 'debateble' act by my own troops (Same battle). I held my right flank platoon in reserve (you were right Berlichtingen, nothing is better than having a fresh, platoon pop up when you don't expect it anymore) until later in the game, where I lterally had it swoop over the battlefield, cleaning up the retreating US troops. I noticed however that in all the general mayhem (they were all running, moving and firing indiscriminately) 1 squad (the green one) continued firing on a US MG squad that had just surrendered maybe 2 or 3 seconds before they were mercilessly mowed done. I DID have my reservations about that... Heat of battle perhaps... Or the 'greenness' of the firing unit (hell, it moves! Let's shoot it, regardless)... 9. I thought I'd start a new topic since I'm interested in the various dirty and cunning tricks the AI is capable of. I'll start of with one that I really loved. I played 'the valley' as US first and doubted the combat value of flamethrowers. In the end I won but I didn't even use them... Then I started a new game as Germans. all went 'rather well'. Around turn 25 there was heavy fighting in the village, with B-company barely holding the line and my reinforcement infantry platoon was on the way. I proceeded to close assault the second row of houses while my panther gave coverfire. (The AI was a great help in covering its approach by continually trying to smoke it. ). As soon as I eliminated some remaining US troops in 2 different building, two different flamethrowers opened up simultaneously, fried both structures, killed most of my assault squads and sent the rest running for their lives, all within the space of just a few seconds! At first assaulting those two poorly defended buildings seemed like a juice, easy target. Afterwards I really felt the AI was literally waiting for me to take that bait. Guess I fell for that one... Loved it.
10. Sorry, very sorry (oh dear). Did it again. Erm...already found the answer.
11.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: INDIRECT MORTAR FIRE: To be honest I haven't tried this myself but here is how its supposed to work as I understand. First: The Mortar team MUST be within a valid command radius of an HQ unit. Second: The HQ unit must have a valid LOS to the target. Apparently thats all there is to it. Just target the spot and let her rip. If anyone can confirm this I would appreciate it!

I have tried this but can't figure it out. Each unit (HQ or mortar) displays it's own target line, but if I order the HQ they will just open fire, and if I order the mortar it can't fire cos it can't see the target. Any ideas anybody?
12. oops, double post. [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 05-11-2000).] [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 05-11-2000).]
13. OR, you can have a friend, who DOES have a creditcard order it FOR you. Worked for me! Thanks Bart!
14. Sorry Madmatt! I get a little confused sometimes. The sheer size and number of posts on this forum exceed my ability to take things in without missing stuff along the way AND keep up a little.
15. If you're playing as the Germans, any game will be TOTALLY different (from the US point of view, at least)if you play with your minefields and barbed wire setup a bit.
16. Aha! My mistake. Just place it like you would place any other marker, or unit!
17. It helps, but so far I've been unable to MOVE the damn thing. How does one do that? When I enter setup it's already there. [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 05-11-2000).]
18. It's here now, and I advise y'all to download it. I think they really went over the top with this one. Well worth the download. Well worth indeed. (oh, I love this!!)
19. It's working!!! Downloading right now!
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Madmatt: Yes, its not so easy to get the one second increment. I think each press actually advances 2 seconds more often than naught but with practice you can get it to do single steps... Madmatt

Try shift-click! No steady hand needed.
21. I was planning a 'remake' of the boardgame "Objective Schmidt." It focuses on the US 112th Infantry Regiment's assault on the town of Schmidt, and the German counterattacks by the 89th Infantry and 116th PzDivision from November 2nd to 6th, 1944 taking place in the Hurtgen forest. I hope I don't need to cut down on the scale.
22. Totally against Fionn's advise the Germans in my game were stupid enough to hold their Panther in reserve. Until it was too late. Haha.
23. Why is it that since yesterday I expect every major gaming site to have a really BIG feature on this superb game on their site, yet can't seem to find any? THIS IS A RETHORICAL QUESTION! I KNOW THE ANSWER, so let's not go into that again! It's just a bit (well, a lot really) wishful and highly deserved thinking. Thanks Steve, Charles and all others who have cooperated in creating this stunning game! [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 05-11-2000).]
