  1. Just a little something I ran across. With tongue planted firmly in cheek; the list of ten Combat Axioms: 1. If the enemy is in range, so are you. 2.Never draw fire on purpose; it irritates your neighbours. 3. Try to look unimportant; the enemy may be low on ammo. 4. Tracers work both ways. 5. When in doubt, empty the magazine. 6. Incoming fire has the right of way. 7. Teamwork is essential; it gives the enemy more people to shoot at. 8. Nothing is more accurate than friendly fire directed at your positions by mistake. 9. The most dangerous thing you can put in the hands of a lieutenant is a map. 10. If you've got all the food, fuel and ammo you need, something bad is about to happen... Know some more?
  2. Same here! I especially like the wall. Nice touch!
  3. Hi M40 My advise to you would be to ask a friend or relative who does have a creditcard to order the game for you and just pay him/her the money. You'll save a lot of extra transfer costs. Worked for me. good luck!
  4. Couple of days ago I got a little bored (while waiting for CM to be etcetera) and wondered what a MASSIVE artillery bombardment would do to a village like Plomthingy. When I say MASSIVE I mean MASSIVE, so after acouple of tries I set up a hotseat VOT game that featured an awful lot of FO's and mortars (US to 150%, check it out. Yes, I was bored ). anyway, I spread every available German in the village (ground floor only). Then I put a single US HQ in a good position in command of some 7 105mm FO's;, 7 81mm FO's and for good measure I added the 9 60mm mortars (NO, the play balance option is not balanced, but fun ). Then I started blasting away at the village... Guys, you ain't seen nothing 'till you stand in the middle of Plomville, ground level, Camera Shake on, with that amount of death coming out of the sky. Rain would be a good word! DE-VA-STA-TING!!! By turn 8 Plomberg was no more. I had some hundred or so German soldiers scatterd throughout the village originally. Some 11 men made it out (barely) alive by the time I ran out of shells, but only by running like hell. They were slightly panicky at that... Okay it was a pointless thing to do but man, did I have fun! If any of you get's a little, you know, bored while waiting, try it out.
  5. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by JeffRaider: Know how you feel. . .<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Oh, man! That's a thread from last december! you suffer even worse than I do. But look at the bright side (at the risk of stepping on some SP toes, sorry): Who needs SP (anymore) now that CM is here? In some unforseeable future I will play SP1 again. Even if it is only for old time sake. It is after all, for me, one of those golden 'oldies.' BTW, Jeff; didn't know there were other people out there who use words like 'alas.' appropriate choice I think. [This message has been edited by Juju (edited 05-20-2000).]
  6. Alas! and woe too. The same thing happened to me just now. tried to while away the time until final CM release, but..., guess I meant what I said in another thread about 'the new era in wargaming.' Ah, well...
  7. Hiya Leland! As a matter of fact (henceforth abbreviated as AAMOF ) you actually CAN delete movement waypoints, oh yes! Just press "backspace" and the LAST waypoint will be deleted. No penalties involved as far as I know. Hope this'll help!
  8. Barkeeper!! Where'd you be without us.
  9. Oh, Hammer! For complete info on Indirect fire click this link: http://cmhq.tzo.com/Golden_BB/goldenbb3.asp
  10. Hi Hammer! Welcome! All your questions are already answered, in great detail, in several other posts. Most of them from the last six days. Try using the search feature and limit your search to the last 5 days or so. Try the words "spotter" or "FO." Multiple hits guaranteed! Good luck! 11. I've found the casualty markers very helpful on occasion. At one time in a game a US unit walked into an ambush zone of my reserve platoon (all hiding). It was eliminated instantly but not yet identified. I did not witness this in real time since my attention was focused on "the big action." Only by seeing the casualty marker I found that something had actually happened (turned out to be a bazooka a turn later). Without the marker I would have been trying to figure out why my reserve platoon went out of hiding while it still seemed invisible to enemy units. Great addition, those markers.
  12. Ain't got a wife. And if I WOULD have one I would have checked in advance if she was a mother. Total expenses so far: A warm smile, 3 kisses and $0.00
  13. The easiest way I've found so far (but with far less overview), is to scroll through all my units by using the +/- key. But I think I'd only do that each turn if Craig's method isn't sufficient.
  14. I would guess it's an 'operations' tool, for digging in between scenarios, maybe?
  15. I had a green squad recently, that deliberately continued firing on a MG team that had just surrendered. They mowed them down mercilessly. Is this a "green" thing, or would veterans do it too? Or is it a "Heat of battle" thingy? Maybe certain troops are better not left alone with prisoners... I've read stories: Soldier (looking innocent): "Regret to report that the prisoner tried to bolt, sir. Had to shoot him, sarge, honestly."
  16. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Juju: Another problem: ...(another unit's)... HQ came up from behind, and effectively "took over command" of my mortars from the company commander. Is there a way to assign these mortars to a specific HQ? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I wanted to draw some attention to this little bit again, as it could turn out to be very inconvenient. Imagine a retreating, or routed HQ that just happens to pass, 'taking command' just because he's closer to the mortars than my own 'designated' HQ. I believe this could indeed happen, no?
  17. I am including this link http://www.ja-galaxy-forum.com/ to give an excellent example of how it could be. Need to know something: just hop to your specific topic. Also, the search function could be divided between these sub-forums which would make searches easier IMO. There are now so many posts on this forum that maybe it's time to clean up a bit too, and 'file stuff away in different folders'. I understand this won't get itsself done, and BTS does have other things on their mind at the moment than doing a complete overhaul of this forum, I believe. Patiently waiting what the future brings...
  18. Joe! IMHO this could only work if nobody makes too many 'slips of the pen.' I've made 2 of those today already and I've not even been awake for more than 6 hours.
  19. Thanks for the reply, Fionn. I know your very busy, and I surely didn't mean to make fun of you. I'm truly sorry for that. Let's just enjoy this great game (that is after all why we all come here), and leave it at that, okay? To head off future, erm, "situations" like this I suggested a solution in another thread. hopefully other come up with related answers too. Thanks
  20. I just wanted to head off possible future "spoiler related" flamewars concerning the final release. Okay, so everybody will want to play scenario's blind. But also people WILL want to share experiences AND ask questions. It seems obvious we'd be much better off if we'd have a separate forum for this kind of stuff. It's simple: If you want to play blind DO NOT visit that specific forum. The way it goes now we have to watch every word, every step of the way, so to speak, and we're talking only ONE new scenario only! Imagine what happens when there's fifty available... Any support for this idea? Suggestions?
  21. ***SPOILER AHEAD*** In a different/later thread than this MCH said the following: --------------------------- it worked for me.just target w/the HQ,then place the mortar target cursor exactly where the "line" from your HQ unit ends. targeting the "unit" dosen't work. just play around with it,you'll get it. easier with area fire. ------------------------------ So, Madmatt, it seems we cannot target a unit but we can target a spot. I'll have to try this, though.
  22. ***ACHTUNG SPOILERS*** <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Madmatt: I didnt make the correlation to the HQ weapon range. Tell me JuJu if you target a unit or spot within the HQ pistol range do the Mortars then engage? Madmatt <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Well, by the time I tried that the US was already all over me, and I had to move them so it was a bit too late. Don't really know. Anyway, If I select a spot originating from my mortar to a target my HQ can see, but not shoot at (due to range) I DO get a red line. The mortar unit then turns to face target but does nothing else. If I double-click on the HQ (thus including the 2 mortars) and then target something WITHIN HQ's weaponrange, it could be working fine, but I don't know since I didn't want to waste precious ammo just to see if something works. I did not try this on an enemy unit since none were within range at the time. I do get orange targeting lines for the mortars this way. If I double-click on the HQ (thus including the 2 mortars) and then target something OUTSIDE HQ's weaponrange, I simply see "out of weapon range" and nothing happens at all. Thanks, Lewis, already tried the stuff you presented, but still no go... Another problem: As soon as US troops DID get into my HQ range, The reinforcement platoon's HQ came up from behind, and effectively "took over command" of my mortars from the company commander. Now they really were utterly useless, and I just HAD to move them. Is there a way to assign these mortars to a specific HQ? I WILL fawn, if needs be, but I DO NOT kiss butts! That's disgusting. Sorry for being a badass, Fionn. I promise, I'll never, EVER do it again. BTW You're good. Like the way you handle Bil in your current AAR. Er..., your hair looks nice... OKAY I'm very terribly extremely sorry, ohplease ohplease forgive me Fionn? huh? willya?
  23. Sorry Fionn. Since the spotting feature has been discussed in several other threads I didn't think it was much of a secret. I still need help however. The Ami's are almost upon me!!
