1. I´ve had something similar happen to me. A sound contact was 188 m away when i used the LOS tool but only 55 m away when I targeted the location. I took a screenshot, I´ll see if I can put a link to it. Yes! It works!!! [This message has been edited by Kurtz (edited 08-18-2000).]
2.
quote:
Originally posted by Von Brizee: [bWhen you walk up to bed after playing CM , and you walks as if holding an MP40 and speaking in German. (I did these both)

hmmm...rehearsals for the invasion....was your wife dressed up as Poland or France?
3. Would bracketing shots really work with different ammunition types? The German Pzgr 40 has higher velocity and hence a flatter trajectory than the Pzgr 39. I don´t know much about allied guns but an APDS shot most likely has higher MV than a full calibre shot. I had an opportunity to take a close look at a Stug III ausf. B a while ago and noticed that the sight has different scales for Pzgr 39, Pzgr 40 and HE.
4. But it feels inconsistent, why can´t I make my setup right after I bought my forces, after that I send a file to my opponent and let him buy forces and make his setup.
5. I noticed that when I start a QB as PBEM and let the computer buy my forces I immediately get to the setup phase and can scrutinize my forces and the terrain. If I, on the other hand, decide to buy my forces manually I don´t get to see the terrain until my opponent has bought his forces. Seeing the terrain before play can give an advantage and it's also possible for the initiating player to repeat the startup until he gets forces suitable to the terrain and weather and terrain which he feels will give him an advantage. If there is a reason for this discrepancy it has escaped me, so feel free to enlight me.
6. First Rickets, now Plaque... We must obviously equip our troops with plenty of dental floss to complement their doses of vitamin D War is truly unpleasant!!!
7. No. It will not make itself hence it will delay CM2 and that is simply unacceptable!!! ------------------ Four things greater than all things are; women and horses and power and war. - Rudyard Kipling
8. Ahhh... It seems like the fine arts will never be forgotten.
9. Mannheim Tanker; The Russian tank´s "gadget" makes their tanks much lower (as there is no loader standing up inside them) and some 15 tons lighter than their western counterparts so it does have some advantages. And a lot of disadvantages, as you have pointed out. As for the ability to shoot ATGMs through the barrel...whats the point? ATGMs are very nice when you don't have a high velocity cannon around but KE ammunition is better for killing heavily armoured targets. As long as it isn't a fire-and-forget system I can't see any advantages except the extended range. But when do you really need a 5 km range?
10.
quote:
Originally posted by speedy24: Hey, thank god the units for time are all the same, huh?

Oh, Yes...what time is now...8.41 AM..or is it PM?
11.
quote:
Originally posted by Hundminen: I also agree wholeheartedly. If there is one thing I'd like to see in the 1.03, it's to know what kind of force your up against.

??? The type of force you´re opposing is already known (armor/inf/mech..), the player who initiates the QB decides this and will hopefully tell you. I think it would be more challenging if you didn´t know this.
12. You can play QB any way you like - against the computer, PBEM or hotseat (and TCP/IP when this becomes available). I´m not really asking for more parameters, just a option for the opponent to select his force "package" separately. Regarding the terrain and weather parameters I think it would be nice if they could be sent with the file for the opponent to view before he purchases his forces. (Although this is a minor issue).
13. Any comments on this? Especially regarding isssue #2?
14. The QB generator is really a lot of fun but there are two things that could be improved, IMHO. This only applies for multiplayer games, of course. The first one is that all relevant parameters (time of day, weather, terrain, date and type of combat) should be available to the second player (the one who didn´t initiate the game). It isn't fun to type everything only to find out there is something you forgot. The second issue is about what forces should be used. As it is now the initiating player decides this (comb.arms/inf./armour..) but I think it could be more interesting if the opponent can make his choice when purchasing forces. That way you wouldn't be sure of what to meet. If I know it will be a pure infantry battle I will obviously not purchase lots of antitank guns (and haul them over the snow-clad hills in the middle of the night only to find out, once the get to the fighting, that there are no targets worthy their attention.)
15. Well, that's safety distances used in peacetime right? (The smilies are suffering from a severe case of Rickets.)
16. The differences in trajectories between artillery, mortars and Rickets doesn´t seem to be modelled in the game. I made a scenario and tested this and it also seems like there is no hits on "cliff" tiles. Not that it matters since nothing (except the occasional reinforcements) can be placed on a cliff. Visually, all projetiles seem to descend vertically.
17. July or August would also work, after that the fighting was too far inland for the guns.
18. But...but...! Crews are essential for the counteroffensive and for clearing the woods and villages from those pesky anti-tank teams.!!! And dont forget, they give the Tiger crews something to do during lulls in the fighting.

20.
quote:
Originally posted by Mark IV: And until the Trinity test, nobody really knew if the damned thing would even work. Until then, nuclear weapons were just a bunch of guys in a room, talking.

The "Little Boy" design (which used Uranium) was not tested before it was used on Hiroshima. The bomb that was tested on the Trinity site was of the "Fat Man" type (Plutonium), later used on Nagasaki. So they were pretty sure that the comparatively simple "Litte Boy" would work.
21. You might want to take a look at "Encyclopedia of German tanks of World War Two" by Peter Chamberlain. ISBN 1-85409-518-8. Basic facts about (I think) every German armoured vehicle and their different versions. It also deals with captured vehicles used by the Germans. Allied vehicles..? Sorry, not my cup of tea...
22. Is it possible to have reinforcements mounted on tanks when they arrive? I have searchead both the manual and the forum and haven't found any useful information (on this particular subject!) If I use enough APCs or trucks the troops will find a place to sit down but I think it would be nice if you could use tanks or other vehicles for this purpose. The reinforcements have probably arrived in the general area riding on the tanks and I think it's a waste of time to have them embark again. Now, back to this lovely game.....
23. Arrgh!!! A few seconds to late!!! The Horror! The Horror!!!
