1. try Shift-S (I think...) or whatever the command is on a Mac.
2. I even got the planes to fly at night in thick fog!!! And they actually managed to spot and hit things on the ground!!!! ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin
3. I was thinking of this too but thougt that a Technicolor-style mod would be cooler. Bright but pale colours. Haven´t really gotten around to do it yet though... ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin
4. Thanks, Al! Good thing you found the fog settings at last. ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin
5. Anyone who has tried this card with CM? I was thinking of buying one (to replace my Voodoo 1!) My computer doesn't have an AGP slot so the choices are somewhat limited. Does it support fog? Transparent smoke? ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin
6.
quote:
Originally posted by Cueball: There actually is a game related advantage. 7. Peng is also mentioned in "Boing Boom Tschak" by Kraftwerk. What is the connection between Peng and and the German band Kraftwerk? ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin
8. Hey! You really should listen to Kraftwerk's "Music Non Stop". Peng is mentioned in the lyrics!!! ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin

11. Tanaka, the velocity of a "C" round doesn't influence it's penetration. The penetration is the same regardless distance and velocity. The major factors influencing the penetration is the diameter of the hollow charge and its shape. ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin
12. The MV of the 10.5 cm is 495 m/s and the 7.5 cm has a MV of 450 m/s. But since both guns fire a hollow charge, MV doesn't matter much. ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin
13. I checked Chamberlain's "the Encyclopedia of German tanks of World War Two" and the penetration of both the 7.5 cm Gr39 H1/C and the 10.5 cm Gr39 H1/C is listed as 100mm @ 30 degrees from vertical. In the game both weapons have a listed penetration of 100mm @ 0 degrees and 86mm @ 30 degrees. Differences in the design of the warhead could be the reason why the penetration of the 10.5 cm isn't higher. ------------------ Spending extravagant amounts of money for marginal improvements is only acceptable in the fields of racehorses and fancy women. -Lord Kelvin
14. Do you want the Shermans to have (Ronson) after their type number?
15. I think Protestant churches are built east-west with the tower on the west side. I'm not sure if this also applies to Catholic churches. (edited for horrible spelling) [This message has been edited by Kurtz (edited 10-01-2000).]
16.
quote:
Originally posted by PzKpfw 1: or APFSDS-T with the T denoting tungsten cored

Doesn´t the suffix T usually designate a projectile with tracer? I´ve seen it used that way on several occasions.
17. Perhaps I am misunderstanding something here? Is it your suggestion that a infantry force could have a chance to have some armour around? This feature wouldn´t be needed if Combined Arms is choosen since they have points allocated to armour, am I right?
18. I think it could be bad to erase threads. Sometimes(!) they actually contain interesting discussions (which later degenerate into flamewars). I´m not talking about blatant offensive posts like those we have seen recently but about discussions that get out of hand fore some reason. The idea of erasing threads gives me a slight 1984-feeling. "No that has never happened. We have always been at war with Oceania."
19. That could work if the suggested percentage was the minimum points the player could spend on tanks (with maximum points allocated as before). Otherwise you could end up with 45 pts (5 % of 900 pts) that you have to spend on tanks, and there is not many tanks available at bargain prices. But it´s a nice idea, more FOW regarding your opponents force is welcome.
20.
quote:
Originally posted by Paul Lakowski: the lenght to depth ratio[L/d] of the projectile is important

Could you please explain this, I don´t understand what you mean by depth in this context. Do you by any chance mean diameter? I that case it makes sense to me.
21. It´s possible to extract a briefing from an existing scenario, I don´t remember how but it´s described in the manual.
22. My prisoners are usually armed! It makes me a little bit nervous to have them near some expensive piece of hardware like a tank. Who knows what they might do?! I have not yet seen them become unarmed when under my control but, on the other hand, I usually don´t take much prisoners.
23. When reading the formula (it almost made my head hurt!!!) posted by Andrew Jaremkow I noticed that the rotation of the projectile isn´t included in it. I came to think about this after reading Lewis' post about rotationally stabilized projs being more stable and therefore able to penetrate more. (This was how I undestodd his post) It was my understanding that a rotating proj would have a tendency to change direction on its way through the armour, if it didn´t hit at a right angle, the proj would strive to move perpendicular to the armor plate. This leads to two questions, admittedly not directly connected to the 88/L71, which I hope someone can answer: 1. Will this curved movement increase penetration due to the fact that the proj will exit the armour as fast as possible or is penetration lower due to energy losses (energy conversions, I know) when the proj does not move in a straight path? 2. Is this tendency dependent on how fast the proj rotate?
24. My biggest objection against real-time games are that the military chain of command has gone AWOL. As a company (or battalion) commander I will not give orders to every single squad or team in real-time. I will give the platoon leader an order and expect him to carry it out or report that he can´t accomplish the mission with the available resources. In the spirit of the Auftragstaktik this shouldn´t normally be a detailed order but rather a general task (take the hill, defend the bridge). The platoon leader will give orders to the squadleaders of his platoon who will give orders to the soldiers in his squad. So, a real-time company-sized game would work if you only had to give orders to the platoon leaders. (And since the plt leaders hopefully can show some initiative and skill you shouldn´t have to issue new orders until they have accomplished their mission or report that they have failed). The turn based system makes it possible to give orders sequentially that in real life would have been issued parallely. I´ve tried CC but disliked it for the above reasons, to me it was just a click-fest.
