  1. Totally agree. This is a typical Battlefront product. Battlefront is the new MicroProse. At some time I thought UBI soft would claim that title but they've lowered their goals somewhere along the road. Wargaming isn't dead.
  2. Martin PS. Let me clarify the "No" a bit, because it's not entirely true. With the mission and structure editor, you can certainly create other battlefields. But it won't be easily possible to turn T72 into e.g. a WW2 tank sim. </font>
  3. ... and what about the Norwegian eh.. bah nevermind...
  4. The preview on the Battlefront mainpage (external link) was very interesting. Sounds like a fun game and the previewers was really excited which helps on my curiosity. Will most likely pick this one up unless CDV is distributing it in Europe.
  5. But I don't think the Norwegian airforce even had seven different aircrafts
  6. A picture says thousand words I'll hold the questions until I've seen some screens. Welcome to the Battlefront family btw.
  7. Any chance for a couple of screenies and a little info on the two coming games?
  8. Yupp the game looks promising. Probably a buyer if it turns out good...
  9. Exactly Slowmotion. Most of this stuff is already in the game they only need to make a new interface for it. The rarity is already in and so is the different weapon groups (mech, inf, armor etc). Even if the designer said you could spend 800 points in infantry you could buy AT-guns for everything if you liked, it would be stupid but up to the player. Just read the other posts. Yes I guess you can have a third party to do this for you or have a calculator ready but personally I would think it's more user friendly if this was built in. Btw by saying that you've already had this done although the hard way you're saying it would be a welcome addition [ December 13, 2002, 06:30 PM: Message edited by: howardb ]
  10. Almost. The designer makes a map and tweaks it his way with auxiliaries for both sides. Then he gives you xxx number of points to purchase your own troops to give the player more freedom. The designer could also make the core units infantry only if needs be. Personally I love the unit buying and with a mean rarity factor it's like a lottery And no I'm not talking about a QB with imported troops. I mean a designed map where you can change SOME of the troops. This way the designer can still have some control on the battle so that it doesn't get too uneven either way. This was hard to explain.... almost regretting I started it hehe [ December 13, 2002, 04:12 PM: Message edited by: howardb ]
  11. No I mean a designer made scenario where the player can change the troops to a more or less degree based upon how many points the designer has given to that battle. It would be a QB with nice maps and a somewhat designed control through the auxiliary units.
  12. I read the terrible review of CM2 on the PC Zone website when I got an idea. Maybe someone has had this idea before but who cares really. I got to think about Panzer Generals use of core and auxiliary units. The core units you could change before play into whatever you liked while the auxiliaries were predetermined. What if the scenario designer could (optional of course) give XXX numbers of purchase points to the scenario so that the player has more influence on the units. The rarity option already works great so you could choose wheather you like one Jagdtiger or a couple platoons MK IV's. For historical battles the designer would of course disable this option but fictional battles would have that extra element of player control. This should also be easily doable considering half the work is already done in the rarity function. Good maps/scenarios would also have much better replayability and then specially so in multiplayer games. You could also have some interesting historical what-if's. Play balance is always best when the designer can choose everything but the main goal of a commercial game is fun.
  13. Bluecom 1mbit/256 (+20% overhead they claim). Wish I had more upstream though.
  14. In the Norwegian Army I operated our squads MG3 (modernized MG42). I've heard they changed to a heavier barrel on the MG3 as the MG42 used too much ammo but it still sounds like "ripping canvas". I think I've heard they experimented on different barrels during WW2 as the "cost/effectiveness" was too high. Btw barrel is probably the wrong word but I can't find the correct one, technical english isn't my strongest I guess
  15. So you get games as presents? Man you're one lucky guy
  16. I don't consider it gamey. You're using the map to your benefit to crush the enemy. If you shouldn't be able to use certain areas on the map the mapmaker should make these unaccessable to you.
  17. There's also an editor, but you can only use it to create boring scenarios.</font>
  18. I massed all the guns on the slope of the biggest hill and waited until I had flank shots with all the guns on both sides. When the KV's entered the battle was already won. I tried to set up 3 lines of defenses later and it didn't work as the panzers picked them off one by one. The old German doctrine of letting them having everything in a massive blow worked best (Guderian was it?). Managed to take out two PzkwIII with infantry which was good I think.
  19. Let them whine who cares really? Some people are born pessimists and will whine at everything, if the world was perfect they would find something wrong in that too. With that said I wish that... heheh.. just kidding
  20. There will be more scenarios in the full version too... and more units I think.
  21. Crazy fact: All the TC's in WW2 was rubbed in with chicken grease before combat so that if they got killed they would slide into the tank easily. In Operation Citadelle the German army was out of chicken grease so they had to use regular butter this made a severe blow to the German morale and some historians say this was the real reason they lost the battle.
  22. Be careful about how place them though. If the TC isn't buttoned up they'll spot them easily and mass fire upon them in no time. I try to put them so the field of view isn't longer than you're going to toss something. These units will be VERY deadly in urban fighting.
  23. That sounds good. Looks like you got a wilcard up your sleeve hoping it will turn the tide if things get nasty, I like that.
  24. If someone asks on the CDV general board would you please ask for release date in Norway too?
