  1. My ICQ number is 51812406 add me and we can have a game sometime
  2. -Publishers wants to make a game for the players, not for only the hard core ww2 I'm not so sure about that.. have you seen BTS's history ? Well I don't know but you kinda makes me feel like a freak LOL. "Hey it's one of those pesky WW2 freaks again, ignore him and he might not recognize you". Damn it I didn't read it proper it seems.. you said PUBLISHERS!!! in bright red words. Forget my post [This message has been edited by howardb (edited 11-26-99).]
  3. I dont think I heard a single flaming here. You asked for opinions and you got them no need to raise your voice After the full version of CM is done you can count on that I will be first here on this board telling BTS what I liked and didnt. That's the only way I'm sure of that for the next game I will get the game I want not what "most of us" wants. Btw when developers can't listen to what the common man wants and not then he needs to get a little down to earth. We can't all like a game and I think I got the right to feel a little dissapointed when I've bought all the previous games. CC4 is a step back for military entusiasts and not really a step either way for flashbanging kids because they wouldn't buy it either way... they got Tiberium Sun. Yeah and the brotherhood of Nod which are much worse bad guys than the ridiculous voice cues of the germans. I'm still very fond of the game and that's why I even bother to write all this. I'm just hoping that they'll go back to what used to be close combat instead of trying to make a Mattel toys game.
  4. Usually the bipod and tripod versions are the same only mounted on a tripod. The LMG version as you refer to is a lighter version used by the Falschirmjagers and assault teams later in the war. The reason they started to make the 42 in the first place was because the 34 had to many moving parts and took too much time to assemble so they sought for an easier design. When they were finished they proved once again that less moving parts are better when it comes to infantry weapons. They also had a czech design which I don't remember the name of right now which were light and used by fast moving troops (it even had a bayonet attached).
  5. Well I gotto admit I've stopped reading the mag too. I used to read it for several years (before all the I-net mags arrived) and I don't think the new editors in CGW are the same as the old ones. One thing CGW was always good with was Military/War games, some mags today are too much into this 3D, gfx hype which doesnt make a game great alone. I dunno but I tend to listen to people that remember the old great games like Storm Across Europe, Balance of Power, Empire etc. Most reviewers today doesn't even know what it is. Btw people that played strategy games on the CBM-64 had to be into wargames because they didn't look like much LOL. What is two of my favourite wargame developers up to these days?, yes I'm talking about Gary Grigsby and Keith Brors.
  6. That really sounds credible to me. At so short ranges the assaulteams ambushing should get in more kills that's logic but what would happen in 200 - 300 meters with guys running in the open ? Nice test btw [This message has been edited by howardb (edited 11-26-99).]
  7. -Twice I saw squads get caught whilst running and loose 3-5 men in one burst from the MG This was interesting. Of course if the grunts are laying down you won't score many hits that obvious but running troops... well that's a massacre. It's always difficult to say what is right in retrospect but personally I wouldn't want to charge an open field with MG fire all around me. I've even heard about germans shooting away big chunks of earth soldiers were protecting behind. I wonder if BTS has different settings for bipod and tripod MG42's ? The tripod shoot way more acurately than the bipod.
  8. -BTS also said that in the final game, AFVs will be able to set up ambush markers for themselves You explained my question there. I shouldn't need to have a commander with me to ambush you know (it's pretty straightforward really "pull pin tank go boom") But the ambush markers do they ambush anything in the sector or certain targets ?
  9. I think I actually heard about it on the Atomic website some while ago. I've also read a preview in the Combatsim which I rate highly. Saw Terry Coleman (which has my deepest respect) from Computer Gaming World said something interesting too.
  10. Funny but all the reports I've heard the allies tried too duplicate the gun without any luck so you came up with the M60 many years later. When operating in offense the MG's are used as suppresion weapons there's no one denying that. On defense with a good LOS this weapon should either be flanked, rushed, arty'ed or tank'ed if not bye bye grunts. The same goes for the .50 vs in buildings I dunno if I overdo the importance of MG's but if I know there's a .50 out there I wouldn't like to hide in a wooden building. A good example of the different types should be the bipod vs the tripod versions. The tripod should have a considerable bonus for defense fire, I've seen the gun hit acurately for +1000m. It's very stable during firing and has a totally different sighting mechanism.
  11. Yeah that bothers me too. In Chance encounter I drove up a MG42'er to get it settled as soon as the battle commenced used the LOS tool and everything was great. When the battle started he couldn't look over a little ridge after all and I had to make him crawl forward. I lost valuable firepower for a while there. The same goes with the tanks only there i would like to see what the gunner see's, an ambush isn't an ambush if you loose the first seconds because you have to maneuver into better ground.
  12. I don't want to get into a war between pro-CC and the other camp but personally I'm starting to think CC has given all the fun it can. Partly because since cc2 everything has declined if you ask me and the game is too broad now, a wargamer should always have the upper hand in a wargame just of the fact that he knows the tactics, armor, infantry etc. that is not the case with cc anymore. I've bought all the games of the series btw. The thing that bothers me the most is the ridiculous voice cues for the germans, no one would detest that the germans are supposed to be the bad guys of ww2 but do they have to sound like bad guys ? All the uncorrect flashy units like flamethrowers, rocket launchers, all powerful allied weapons etc. Even Stuarts are knocking out my Panthers for crying out loud. The ability of straight driving is also a pain. I dunno how many tanks I've lost because they've started to swivel around to show their side armor to the enemy. Sometimes I never know what I got or what's opposing me because nothing is called anything anymore, only the generic: little tank, medium tank, big tank etc and that's hardly good enough for a wargamer is it? Lastly I must put in that I think developers of supposedly historic wargames should feel a responsibility to educate it's gamers with historic information about equipment and tactics deployed. This was done in excellently in CC2 with even the different sound cues for different guns etc. I'm putting the question up to you again, has the CC series played it's part ? Is the CC series starting to look dated and old ? It's soon year 2000 can we expect anything more, maybe even 3D battlefields
  13. Lee: LOL that's probably the best description of a socialist govt I've ever heard. On the other hand everybody can afford to get sick, give birth (actually that only applies for the women) and other social things. There are other things I detest tho.. like Denmark is No 1 and Norway No 2 in foreign Aid pr capital. Why the hell should I pay for a maladministrated banana republic somewhere... gripes, I'm starting to rant again
  14. TSS: Like a commander once said (don't remember which) If I were to win an arctic battle I would want Finnish soldiers, Swedish weapons and Norwegian clothes. There's no denial of the couriage of the Finn soldiers, I'm in total awe. Iguana: Boy do I got a treat for you probably the best site on the net for Panzerknacker infantry weapons. They got everything that can kill a tank (well could anyway). Set your browser to : http://www.geocities.com/Augusta/8172/panzerfaust2.htm
  15. I live in Norway and we should be the most taxated country in the world (don't think any other scando's will deny that LOL). Anyway, if the game will cost me over a 100$ to get I think BTS should do something because that's a lot I think. That's like two regular games and don't give me that bull "It's so great that it's worth 200$" when you'll get it for regular prize). I think they should do something about that it's already paid for when they send it so they could send it as a gift or something I dunno.
  16. After a couple of rounds CM I've discovered something that bothers me. I got in a perfect ambush position with a StuG and was waiting for a Sherman to show his soft side armor when my StuG started shooting the infantry that was with the sherman thus giving away my position and then he had to reload AP ammo, of course the StuG got blown up. Is there a way to command the Tanks to ignore everything but opposing Zookers and tanks in the final product ?
  17. Thanks for the reply Fionn. For your reply on question 3 I must confess I know a little about the abilities of the MG42 because I used to be a MG3 man (modified MG42) in the Norwegian Army. In an open field with an elevated MG position it's a death trap moving in on a gun that spews out 17-22 rounds a second. They teached us to only use half second bursts then moving on to the next group of targets but hey anything you fire at will be peppered with rounds. As I said I'm living in Norway does that pose any problems buying the game over the net ?
  18. Downloaded the beta the other day and I must say I'm so bloody impressed that I got late for work. After I'd done a couple of Sherms I actually went to see if I could spot the entry holes for the shells, that says a lot doesnt it ? Some tanks burnt while other just stopped, is this random or a part of caliber/ammo type ? I also think the grunts is a little too hard to kill. I mean an elevated MG42 position shooting at a field at soldiers from a 100meters out should wipe out entire platoons. The same goes for the sniper at 150m, I was shooting at company HQ and didn't hit a single man for several turns. I have nothing to say against the armor battles they were totally outstanding, well actually the best I've ever tried. I put the StuG's on ambush roles in the last map you gave us and took out 2 Sherms and two more with shrecks. No this game is looking so bloody awesome that I guess I'll loose my job and gf when it's arriving. When roughly does it appear on shelves anyway? (I know how difficult it is to deliver on time but when roughly, aboutish does it appear?).
