  1. I personally enjoy reading and sharing ideas with other peopple on this board. I haven't been able to keep up with all the posts (haven't even read much about the haster/chinchilla wars) but I think many an eye and ear has been opened by general discussions of WWII on this board. Yes many of us are highly opinionated, some of the opinionated people aren't exactly civil about their personal biases, but that's true in every social circle I have to deal with in my life, whether it be work, church, school, play, or this board. That's part of the human condition. You either deal with it in your own way or become a hermit. Cheers Eric P.S. Finally found some of the posts that I suspect generated this thread while catching up on the forum. I still think it's a great forum and my above statements still stand. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins. 2. Interesting thought but how would knowing which unit made the sound contact add to gameplay? The re-map key idea seems pretty good at first glance but the only time I've needed to remap keys is in realtime games like flight-simulators and first person shooters. Don't mean to cut you down there, I just think there are bigger fish to be caught. The TCP/IP patch for instance. Cheers Eric ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  3. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by aka_tom_w: I would like to comment..... Ok I understand that BUT.... How did the model the advantage some Allied tanks have with that Gyro Stabilizer. Most historic info on that seems to indicate it was often disengaged by the crew or it was poorly maintained. But that dubious or questionable advantage is modeled in the game? <HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Not modeled for the very reasons you mentioned. I do believe that those of us who care about this should find some relevant facts and historical data (if it exists) to make our case for the superior quality of the German Zeiss gunnery optics. I think this could be modeled and in CMBO but it really "should" be modeled in CM2 as the effects of this superior aiming and targeting ability at long ranges was historically a factor (as I understand it) in many large long range tank battles on the eastern front. I do believe that in CMBO German tanks should be modeled with better gunnery optics and appear more accurate. The question id of course, "How much better, and how much more accurate"
  4. The Tiger is the bomb! Can I have a copy please? ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  5. Opening movie doesn't want to run when opening the game. When I open up the movie manually I get a "can't find appropriate decompressor" error. The movie will then run, but without sound. Don't have this problem with other .mov files. Not a really big deal: the game runs fine. Just puzzled. AMD K6III 450 mhz 128mb ram Soundblaster 16PSI Viper 770 (not ultra) video
  6. Point well taken. I remain highly skeptical of Soviet leadership's regard for the life of the individual, especially in comparison to the very contentious leadership I've had the privilege to serve under, but concede that you're entitled to your point of view. I of course am very biased, having personally seen the hard work that the U.S. Air Force has done for its troops. Hopefully without protracting this argument further let me just say the Russian officers I've had occasion to meet are very impressed. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.

  8. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by jshandorf: I think here in America most of our Military types put as much value on individual life as much as their Russian counterparts. Jeff<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> O.K. I'll bite. I don't know a bloody thing about submarine rescue but I know the men I've served under. They care about the missions they're required by their pollitical leaders to perform, and the men and women under them. If it costs lives to perform the mission it's a regreted but understood cost of the proffesion. That doesn't mean they don't care. Every officer I've served under does care very much. Remember this: war is politics by other means. In the USA the separation between the military and the political government is distinct enough that I can say with confidence: It's the politicians that get our boys killed not the generals. The generals are just doing their dirty work. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  9. To my e-mail apponents: I just got back from a fishing trip to Alaska, and have over one hundred e-mails to wade through. The carage with continue ASAP. Cheers Eric.
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Michael emrys: In any event, I personally don't know exactly what is being modeled when a tank is Immobilized. Perhaps it always means that it has damaged its running gear, in which case a tow isn't going to help. Michael<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Tank recovery isn't modeled. Just not something you do under fire. The ramming idea is pretty cool though. Mechanical problems are modeled, as is being bogged in. 12. Looking for an apponent for a PBEM game tonight. Please only apply if you've got about 4 hours to spare tonight. I'd like to get three or more turns an hour accomplished. It will also be a CMHQ ladder game. Here's the settup: version 1.03, 2000 points, medium map, village with small hills, and light trees, Sept 44. I'm ready to play as Allies or do a mirrored game. Send challenge to: discus@peoplepc.com or ICQ: 38571318 ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  13. Oh yea, this is one feature almost everyone is dying for. Here's a couple of URL's I found in a quick search. A more exhaustive search will reveal more I'm sure. http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/007967.html http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/004525.html http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/006313.html http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/000697.html http://www.battlefront.com/discuss/Forum1/HTML/000569.html ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.

  15. Started with 285 scale miniatures. Used a rule set called "Tracktics." God awfull armor data. That's when I got into researching armor on my own. Didn't get into the infantry war until I finally got Steel Panthers, after being out of wargaming for years. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.

  17. Oh. I forgot to mention, I'm running version 1.01. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  18. Who has time for a virtual hotseat game on ICQ? Quick battle, 1000 points, two games on a mirrored large map, village terrain with small hills. CMHQ ladder game. Any takers? E-mail me or ICQ me. The info is in my profile. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  19. Just built my first quick battle. Very functional but there were a couple of things I'd like to be able to do with this asset that I was not allowed to. First I'd like to be able to upload a map of my own design or one that the computer generated and I saved. This would allow me to create quick battles with "mirrored" maps. Second, I'd like to be able to purchase units less restrictively. Although I understand the reasoning behind the restrictions, I'd like to purchase units in any combination I wanted to insted of having point caps for each cattegory of equipment. Just thought it was a shame I couldn't buy unit X becouse it would put me 7 points over in that particular category. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  20. I thought I'd be better at defence than offence in this game. Wrong answer. I love the offence. I feel I have the initiative, and really love a well executed attack. A defensive plan that comes together is a real joy too, for me it's as much luck as planning. Now if I could just learn the art of baiting an attacker I might do better on the defence. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  21. It's on the right-hand side of the page, a little brown box. Combat Mission is up to 50.6%. I do love these little surveys. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
  22. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Soliloquy: Pardon my nitpick, but according to Shelby Foote, NB Forrest's statement was: "Get there first with the most men." It doesn't have quite the same rural sound, but it's more accurate. If Forrest wasn't the source of your sig, then never mind me...<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I'm going to show my ignorance here. Did NB Forrest's quote pre-date WWII? The reason I ask is that I'm not quoting Forrest, but an old WWII G.I. axium. Maybe they got the idea from Forrest? ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
