I would have a Good Conduct Medal with Oak Leaves by now, I'm sure.

Here's something that could be incorporated into ladder play. The looser should write the recommendation. Any other ideas on awarding players medals? ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 2. 3 to 4 times a day when I'm not going to night school. If I got an active e-mail game going, I'll switch between the bulletin board and CM all night long. I just set my Outlook to check mail automaticaly every minute, and it rings when I get the next turn. As soon as I'm done with the turn and it's sent, I'm back on the bulletin board. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 3. Perhaps the Sherman hit the shot trap on the Panther. A hit on the lower gun mantlet on the Panther will cause a ricochet into the thin top hull plate. Late model Panthers had an additional piece added to the mantle to eliminate this problem. A nother possibility would be a turret ring hit. CM models both. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.

 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: G4A, dunno... but I'll have Charles take a look at it. The guy should have been able to run. EScurlock, captives do not rearm themselves for exactly the reason you cited. I'm betting you didn't see what you thought you did, but if you DO see something like this... send it along. Surrendering has been in the game for something like a year and a half and I have never, ever seen them rearm. And of course I have captured LOTS of enemy soldiers Steve

I'll have to keep a closer eye on that. Probably missinterpreted the event. I haven't given a prisoner an opportunity to escape since the first time it happened so I've only seen repatriated prisoners once. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 6. That does bring up a good point. I know such details are probably low in priority, but at some point in time it would be good to strip prisoners of their weapons. I sent a prisoner toward the rear, only to have him active and armed once he got far enough away from his captors. The active thing is good (I should have gave him a guard), but I really don't think he should have had any weaponry after being captured. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 7. WinZip opens it up just fine. You'll have to build directories though. Root directory: Combat Mission Demo Subdirrectories: BMP PBEM Saved Games Scenarios Wav If you still need help give me a call, I'm in the phone book (ZIP 20762) ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by TeAcH: With all due respect to Charles and Steve who have crafted one of my favorite games of all time (including back to the days of Apple 2), I would like to propose a vote to all players. As most of you are already aware by now, there are several "rules" in place in CM that do their best to prevent gamey tactics. One such rule is that crews are always identified as crews rather than unknown infantry types on the battlefield. Another does not allow players to abandon crew served weapons if they are bombarded so that the crew take cover and then return to and man a hopefully undamaged gun. (Correct me if I am wrong on those two examples. They were the first two to come to mind.) Though the motivation and design behind these rules is well-intentioned - to prevent gamey type tactics from spoiling a game - "realism" if you will, is sacrificed along the way. There are those that suggest that the game not have such implementations thereby allowing the player freedom to do what would be ordinarily physically possible during a battle (granted it is a computer game). Thus, players would then be confronted with "real" dilemmas and situations to overcome and likewise, real penalties for the loss of "important" troop types and equipment (tank crews, mortar crews, etc). You see, the more such governors that are put in place, the more confined the strategies become. Remove those devices and give players total control over their troops. So, for those that are interested, I welcome a vote if for nothing more than the gathering opinions for BTS' perusal. Please start your reply with a vote of either: "GTP" - a vote for Gamey tactics prevention (keep those rules in place) -or- "TR" - Total Realism (players get total control - let the field of battle be the determiner) I vote TP. Keep in mind this would be related to CM2. Thanks, TeAcH [This message has been edited by TeAcH (edited 05-31-2000).]

I'm afraid we have a faulty dilemma here. "GTP" programing does not equate to unrealistic gameplay, nor does removal of "GTP" equate to total realism and vice versa. The reality of the situation is much more complex and can not be placed in such a simplistic either or box. If you narrow the subject to a specific coding issue, a more product debate might ensue. You may wish to start with one of the examples from which you infered the aformentioned dilemma. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 9. Perhaps you're refering to the meeting engagement, where both sides are on the offensive. I don't know how the CM battle generator handles them, but there are different types of offensive and defensive engagements. Some examples include: Offensive: Assault - A planned attack on a fortified possition or well organized defence. Advance - Attack against a broken or hastely organized defence. Probe - Reconisance in Force. (Stupid, under planned, under commited attack to the poor b******s that have to do it IMHO) Got to go. There are names for the opposing defenses also. _ ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 10. Gentlemen, I'd hunt down some quotes from Paul the Appostle but I have a BBQ to go to. Let me just say this: if GL isn't a member of your church or denomination, not only is GL's private life in its entirety not your business, but making an issue of it just gives a negetive image of your church. If he is a member of your church, you talk to him as a brother, you don't trash him. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.

 13. It really depends. At times I may take 15 or more minutes on a turn. By staying online, and using ICQ (as previously mentioned) you should be able tomake 3 or more e-mail swaps an hour. That's an average of 10 minutes per swap per player. Some take more, some take less. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 14. I'm 36. Married with a dughter age 9. Used to fish my guts out 'till I was sent here to Andrews AFB. Central Alaska spoiled me, and the fishing around here just doesn't do it for me. Now I mostly look forward to civilian life, go to school in anticipation of starting a new career upon military retirement, and anxiously await CM. 15. Definately worth the download. In a nutshell: Basic skills. 1. Left click on unit. 2. Right click on unit or hit space bar to bring up orders menu. 3. Select Order. 4. Paint the order on the 3D map with your mouse. Note game options menu can be pulled up by clicking on the hotkeys icon. Sound simple? It is!, (well at least 'till the enemy starts shooting back). Basic Game Concept: Look at the map. If you're on the defensive guess where the enemy will come from - cover those routes. If you're on the offensive think of how you're going to take the objective. Give your guys orders to execute that plan. Just remember to take it one step at a time. The deer in these woods shoot back! ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.

 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Scott Clinton: That reminds me of a bug I noticed last week (I think I sent it in...) The HQ was still in good order (as were the mortars) and they were still in command. I was able to replicate this with the same units when I moved them to a slightly different location. The fired the smoke fine using DF however.

IIRC once you move a mortor, it can no longer perform indirect fire for the remainder of the scenario. It takes surveying equipment to set up a weapon for indirect fire. Been there, done that. Not something you do in the middle of a firefight. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
 22. I finaly downloaded SPWAW. I think they did an outstanding job. Did anyone notice the way the units dig in just like SPIII? I think this is a feature Combat Mission should concider incorporating. A shallow foxfole can be dug in minutes when your properly motivated. The balistics and armor modeling are much improved. The sound effect when a tank brews made me LOL. Its AI can't hold a candle to Combat Mission, and its failure to resolve turns simultaniously shows its datedness, but what an effort from the voluteers at Matrix games! ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.

 24. The hiddious color tone monster rises again! Quality control on paint for WWII vehicles on all sides wasn't real good. Then there's factory vs field applications of paint. The guys in the fiels had to use whatevever they could find to thin paint. Usually they resorted to gasoline. The applicator could have been anything from a profesional sprayer hooked into the air compressor on the vehicle itself to a mop. Dirt, oil, and sun all had an impact on the color of a vehicle after just a short time in the field. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.

Can't afford air or float trips to some more private fishing. I'll be spending time on Ship, Bird, Resurrection, Montana, and Camble Creeks. Of course I have to do the Russian and Kenai also. It's hectic but those red salmon are worth the hastle. ------------------ He who gets there the fastest with the mostest wins.
