  1. Whine, whine, whine! What's an extra week or two for CMBB to be delivered? I just ordered mine last Monday and I'm not biting my nails yet.
  2. thank all of you that have made CMBO and are going to make CMBB such great games. From the guys at BTS (for a fantastic concept and game!) to all of the mod makers to the scenario and operation creators and to all those who have hosted websites, I wish to personally (at least through this thread) thank all of you for your hard work. Coming from a guy like me who hasn't raised a finger to create a mod or a scenario, I truly appreciate the effort all of you have done. Let me finish by giving you all my personal 'thumbs up' for a good well done!
  3. I don't have CMBB yet but the 40.71 drivers work perfect for me in the demo with no changes to anti-aliasing and such. I did have one lockup a while ago but like PIATpunk said, I don't think that's due to nVidia. [ September 30, 2002, 11:19 AM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  4. I haven't tried the demo but with so many units to move such as in Ligur's screenshots, does it take a long time to plot your unit moves and commands? With some of the very big scenarios in CMBO, the plotting got tedious for me sometimes. Any opinions? [ September 03, 2002, 04:10 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  5. emef: I just received my new PC with that same motherboard but with a XP 1800+ chip. CMBO runs great on it. For reference I'm using the 28.20 nVidia driver for my GeForce4 card and also DirectX 8.1 that came with the motherboard driver CD.
  6. Cold Harbor. Afterwards Grant admitted that the Union attacks were a big mistake.
  7. CMBO ran fine on my Celery 466 with a Voodoo 3 2000 card. Maybe the really large battles were a little slow but it ran just fine. But my small 6.4 gig hard drive was driving me nuts. I always had to remove something in order to install something else on the machine. I'm really looking forward to my new machine which I should get next week: Athlon XP 1800+ ASUS A7S333 Motherboard 256MB 333Mhz DDR Ram (512 next year!) 60 GB 7200 rpm hard drive nVida GeForce4 Mx420 64MB card (a titanium next year also!) 8. Here, here! Thanks Schrullenshraft! [ August 21, 2002, 02:40 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  9. Those are T-34s as Sam Peckinpah filmed 'Cross of Iron' in Yugoslavia and used Yugoslavian army equipment in the movie.
  10. Thanks, Scipio! That was a good interview. Interesting read about the German version (no 'SS') of the game. [ July 24, 2002, 05:20 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  11. kump: That was good to read. One of my favorite CM experiences was fighting in bocage country and having a PIAT team fire against a Tiger that just appeared around a corner. The PIAT missed the side of the Tiger twice before the Tiger got it's turret around and quickly destroyed the PIAT team. But while the Tiger's turret was turned to take out the PIAT team, I had a Firefly come around from behind a hedge and nailed the Tiger on the first shot. Boy, I felt great after that. 12. highlife and jgdpzr: Both of your posts were really interesting to read. Thanks!
  13. Just wondering with all these great mods out, what was the percentages of the different types of camouflage the Germans used on their AFVs? I mean by 1944 how many tanks were painted in panzer gray, in ambush colors or in light brown and so forth? I would just to know if a panzer gray painted Panzer IVH appearing in June 1944 in Normandy could be still be found? By this time of the war were many German vehicles still painted gray? I'm justing asking because after looking at Steven Burvenich's awesome looking Panzer IV and StuGs at Combat Mission HQ, would that color still be found in numbers in 1944?
  14. Chamberlain may well have been an anti-Nazi but he also didn't want to do anything to stop Hitler and his expansionist moves until the Rhineland had been reoccupied by Germany, Austria was forcibly merged with Germany and Czechoslovakia was betrayed at Munich. It was only until Poland that Chamberlain's hand was forced. To me, he still appears to be "The Appeaser". As for Finland, I think Stalin backed off taking over all of Finland because the Soviet Union got what they wanted from the treaty with the Finns, Stalin knew that France and Britain were getting ideas together to help Finland and lastly, Stalin found out that the Red Army needed a drastic overhauling right away after the Finns gave them a good pasting.
  15. Thanks, Madmatt! Really looking forward to this game. I like how there will be a command structure with HQs and different leaders.
  16. Wow! I'm really looking forward to replaying the 'Battle of the Atlantic' with the ability to move ships around from hex to hex instead of the abstract way Clash of Steel handled sea movement. By the way, I hope Canada will be well represented both in terms of the ships in the North Atlantic and the land war in western Europe. That is, as Canadian units and not as British/Commonwealth units. [ April 22, 2002, 12:17 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  17. Okay, okay! I have full confidence in BTS. Man, those screenshots are making me giddy as a schoolgirl. Now the waiting begins...
  18. Now before any of you guys flame me, I just want to state that I hope you guys are trying to take on too many projects at once. I mean Strategic Command looks awesome but are there enough programmers to go around and work on these different projects (CMBB, Strategic Command, Airborne Assault) at once? I do have complete faith in Battlefront but was just wondering if you're stretching yourselves thin. Does Strategic Command look great or what?! I loved Clash of Steel and this looks one hundred times better. You even get to select who to command units! [ April 18, 2002, 05:30 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  19. Forgive me if this has been discussed before but I did a search and did not find anything. I would just like to know what you guys do if you want to play a user created scenario or operation and there is no indication from the maker whether the initial setup of the units should be set at Default or Free To Place. If there is no setup instructions, what do you usually choose? Because a lot of times the scenario maker has gone to great lengths to set up the units just nicely and you don't want to use the Free To Place setup option. The initial setup of the units can make or break a scenario or operation. For instance, I'm about to start the operation "Howl of the TimberWolf" but there's no indication of whether the setup should be defaulted or free to place. What would you choose? [ March 13, 2002, 01:44 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  20. 007 Commander: I can not nor will not recommend any mods as there are so good ones out there. I really don't think there are 'standard' ones but maybe certain grass textures or complete terrain mods such as the Normandy mod come to mind. I know I spent a long time cruising the net and checking out the pictures of mods before deciding to download a mod to try out in the game. Maybe check out these sites and some other users can recommend other sites to you: Combat Mission HQ Combat Missions CM Outpost [ January 31, 2002, 05:58 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  21. Mods are a matter of taste. There are many excellent mods out there including multiple mods for the same vehicle or terrain. Virtually every graphic in my game has been changed to a new mod by these excellent mod makers. Mods will not change how a squad or vehicle performs on the battlefield. Mods only used to make the graphics look really cool. Also, squads will only be depicted by three men or two men if the detail is lowered. If you're happy with the graphics that came with the game, that's fine. Otherwise, 'shop around' and check out all of the mods that are available. That's what I did. Kudos to BTS for making CM fastastic and also making the graphics easily editable by the public and kudos to the many dedicated mod makers who help to make a great game even better. Also almost forgot the many great scenario makers out there. CM has one of the most dedicated group of active followers out there.
  22. Recently I watched a television show recounting how Guy Fawkes, after the noose had been put around his neck, jumped off the execution platform and hung himself in order to escape the pain of the execution itself. Is that true? [ 11-05-2001: Message edited by: Wally's World ]</p>
  23. I'll be downloading this one. The story of the Canadian Black Watch's 'Black Friday' was one of the stories that 'The Valor and the Horror' presented when it was shown on the CBC. Thanks, Keith!
  24. The search just hung on me so I'm just posting a topic here asking if anyone has tried or is using some or all of Franko's Rules of Combat? I'm trying a couple of Franko's rules that state you cannot click on an enemy unit to find out how many men are left in a squad or team or find out their experience level. The other rule that I'm using is that you cannot target an enemy unit yourself. You must let your own units' AI target the enemy. Both of these rules do make the game more interesting and tougher because you feel as if you cannot target everything that your units can see and thus it can get frustrating when your armor will not target that anti-tank team that's getting ready to open fire on them. You lose a sense of control over the fighting which is fine with me because every force commander could not always tell every unit under his command as to what specific enemy to target. A rule I don't think I'll use is restricting myself to certain camera views. I like to 'fly' over the battlefield to see the action and the great maps. Otherwise, I'm interested to see if anyone else has tried some of Franko's rules. Nice work, Franko!
