  1. I go to the Scenario Depot everytime I want to download a certain scenario and check to see if it's been reviewed yet. A very good CM resource here. Kudos to the ones who maintain this site! Very much appreciated! And the same applies to the authors and reviewers who post there!
  2. Scipio: Thank you, thank you, thank you! I'll take it!
  3. dsvitak: The best idea is to go to the websites mentioned in this thread and browse the mod sections picking and choosing what you want. Like Gyrene wrote, it's entirely up to you what you want to download. If you're happy with the delivered graphics, fine. I and many others replaced most of the delivered graphics with user created mods. I would though recommend looking at the user made terrain mods and winter equipment mods because a lot of them are excellent. I think you'll find yourself going back and browsing the user mods over and over again and downloading very different versions to compare them in the game itself. It does take some time but I found it fun to see what kind of new mods there are. Kudos have to go to BTS for allowing their graphics to be changed by the user community.
  4. Sorry, I looked around and the only one I could find was at the Combat Mission HQ site. Does anyone know of any others out there? I'd appreciate any help. Thanks...
  5. I frequently visit the Combat Mission Scenario Depot with all the reviews. Really interesting to read. And also cruise around all those other sites like Combat Mission Canadian Bitmaps and The Combat Mission Times. Kudos to all those who make a great game like CM even better for all of us! Whoops! Almost forgot, a special thank you to you, Wild Bill, for all your great scenarios. I even have some of your scenarios/battles for Steel Panthers and Panzer Commander. Thanks again! 6. Funny, my new topic seems to have gotten mixed up with another topic thread. Anyway, here goes try number 2. Pardon for the rather silly request but I am looking for a particular mod for rubble. I saw it months ago on a website but I tried and cannot find it again. The mod can be seen in one of these screenshots from the scenario 'Gotterdammerung' at the Combat Mission Scenario Depot. The url follows and the rubble mod can be seen in the bottom screenshot. Gotterdammerung Screenshots Any replies as to where I can find this mod would be greatly appreciated. 7. Forgive me with this rather silly request. I am looking for a particular mod for building rubble and I saw it months ago at a website and I can't find it again. It appears in this one screenshot from the Combat Mission Scenario Depot from the battle named 'Gotterdammerung'. Here's the url for that screenshot and the rubble mod can be seen in the bottom pic. Gotterdammerung Screenshots Any replies as to where I can find this mod would be appreciated. Many thanks!
  8. I've got a Voodoo 3 2000 card with my Celeron 466 and 128 Megs RAM. I have no problem running any type of scenario/operation. But upgrading from 64 Megs to 128 Megs of RAM made a world of difference.
  9. The Ostwind with its 37mm AA Flak gun. I just finished a scenario in which I had four of them and they just hammered the opposition who had only a few AT guns and one anti-tank team. Quite deadly against non-armored and lightly armored stuff. And like Pascal DI FOLCO said, it eats Stuarts.
  10. Crap! Those SU-85s look mean and nasty. I think I'll just throw down my rifle and run away!
  11. I second that. Let this thread be a place for all non-Americans to express their condolences for our American brothers and sisters and say that all good and decent people in this world stand by them.
  12. Here in my building, almost nobody is working. And some people here are supposedly panicking about what's happening. My prayers go out to all those affected and this may sound lame but as a Canadian, I stand by my American friends and hope our country will join in with the U.S. in hunting out these criminals. I also think that all those countries in NATO should also join in as it appears that one of our member nations has been attacked.
  13. I think PVLLVS MAXIMVS is right. Wherever your units are is where the foxholes will be. Unless someone else has had the experience of moving foxholes around without some kind of unit in them. I've never done it though. And it is cool that the fog of war is very realistic with regards to tank identification and even anti-tank guns.
  14. Just a silly question if you don't mind. Which type of battle (non-quick battles) or operation would you rather play? A historical one or a fictional one? With regards to myself, I prefer historical or at least semi-historical ones because they seem to make the battle/operations feel more 'real' to me and help me get a better understanding of what the people present at the actual event had to go through to accomplish their mission. Fictional ones are almost too artificial for me and I just can't get that much into the game when playing one of these. Am I nuts for thinking like this?
  15. Fluf, when you get the game in the mail you can go this website if you want all-Canadian battles and operations. I'm currently playing "The Causeway" depicting the battle to reach Walcheren Island in early November 1944. CANUCK: Clothing, Equipping and Employing the Canadian Soldier in Combat Mission. There are many great websites are there with many great mods of both graphics, sounds and interface stuff. You won't regret getting this game. With regards to your questions about operations, casualties that occur in one battle will affect how many men you have for the next battle including armour destroyed in a previous battle like Gen. Sosaboski wrote. In some cases, you may receive replacements and even reinforcements if the operation is designed that way. The front lines will move back and forth depending on how well you did and you only see the part of the map that you are currently battling on and as the front line moves, more and more of the map is revealed. But, be prepared to give long hours of time to each operation but they are fun! By the way, I plan to make a trip to Ottawa sometime to see the museums there but here in Calgary, there's an awesome museum called "The Museum of the Regiments" and tells the histories of the Calgary based regiments with excellent dioramas and artifacts and with a good collection of Canadian equipment outside. 16. I wonder if the map had too many wooded areas and combined with only 20 turns and all infantry that the AI could not move its troops fast enough to make contact before the game finished. I wonder how big the map was?
  17. My idea is to send one squad close to the building in question, if not inside the building. Try and sneak, not run. Also, keep your additional squads outside to provide cover fire if the enemy is hiding in the building waiting to open up on your advancing squad. That way they can try to suppress the enemy troops if they start firing at your advancing squad.
  18. I second Bigdog's suggestion. Great website. I have noticed the amount of reviews have picked up recently. I've done about six reviews myself and will do one for the operation I'm currently playing called "The Causeway". [ 08-09-2001: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  19. Just thought if you don't know there is a great website at CM Scenario Depot In which you place your own review and read others' reviews about delivered and also user-created battles and operations. Really interesting to find out what to try next.
  20. It currently is great that Canadians were included in CM and although I really have no preference to play a certain country, it certainly is an added bonus morale (my morale, of course) effect to play as the Canadians. A great scenario for Canadians is the "Hit the Coast" scenario which depicts the fighting along the coast of France in which the Canadians were heavily involved.
  21. I know this has nothing to do with Combat Mission but to those New Zealanders out there, being from Canada I've read reports that the Canadian army has been very impressed with their new LAVIIIs. They are currently being used in Ethiopia and Eritrea for peacekeeping and were brought over there straight from the factory. I think that the New Zealanders will be happy with them. The Department of National Defence for Canada had some good reports of the new APCs on their website. That's www.dnd.ca. Now back up the moving vans. Too bad about the RNZAF though as some air force is better than no air force.
  22. Yep, that's a great series. Makes you consider that Combat Mission is realistic after watching the show. Especially when the show said that Allied soldiers, even just hearing about the approach of German tanks, thought about the dread of facing Tiger tanks even though the actual tanks were not even seen yet. Combat Mission got that correct when a sound contact is taken to be a Tiger by the Allied soldiers. That's a nice piece of history coded there!
