  1. Playing the Germans, I just started an operation in March 1943 near Kharkov and for my armor, the winter mods are not showing even though the terrain is Light Snow and my infantry are wearing their winter outfits. I did confirm that I installed the correct winter mods for the armor. Instead I just the summer paint on my armor. Anyone else ever have this issue?
  2. Just starting playing SC2 and was wondering what the little numbers beside the unit icons mean. I have some units with one '1' beside them and some with three "1's! beside them. I've looked through the manual and this board but can't find what they mean. If I did miss the info in the manual or this board, I apologize. But could someone explain what these numbers represent? Many thanks!
  3. On the same line, I upgraded my PC from a 3700+ and a 7900GS to an X2 4800+ and a 8800GT card and now the demo for TOW plays a lot better Looks like I'll be a purchaser of TOW very soon. [ December 05, 2007, 05:54 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  4. sudowudo, If you're still around, I managed to get a hold of an Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (Socket 939) that's compatible with the 939Dual-Sata2 board. For a pretty good price too. Since I don't want to wipe out my hard drive with a new motherboard install and don't want to go to Vista yet, this was the best option for me. 5. Thanks Schrullenhaft for the reply. susdowudo, I have the San Diego too and it's a great CPU. But I'm debating whether to upgrade the CPU or wait another year and just get a new motherboard and CPU bundle.
  6. Thanks for the reply, Schrullenhaft. The problem was the PSU giving unsteady voltage. My hard drive is also showing signs of failing so I'm replacing both of them. The good news is that the data on the hard drive is 100% fully intact and can be transferred to the new drive with no issues. Sorry, but I have another question about upgrading the CPU. Since my Asrock 939Dual-SataII motherboard is socket 939, my upgrade paths from my Athlon 64 3700+ is restricted. However I did find an Athlon 64 X2 4200+ socket 939 CPU OEM for $86 CAD. I would have to add a heat sink and fan to it, of course. Would it be worth the money to go from a 3700+ to an X2 4200+? Would I see much, if any, performance increase for the price over the 3700+? I've read both yes and no answers to this question when others have asked. Or would an X2 4800+ CPU for $249 US be the better choice? My PC is almost used strictly for gaming purposes. I'm just trying to squeeze some extra life out of my setup before I do a major upgrade and probably go to Vista. [ November 07, 2007, 12:18 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  7. Getting a weird boot problem since last week where I turn on my PC and the hard drive light comes on, but nothing happens. Nothing at all on the monitor. Only when I hit the reset button does the PC actually boot up XP. If I restart the PC from XP itself, it reboots find. It's only the very first start-up of the PC do I have to use the reset button. Other than that, the PC works perfectly. I ran a disk check on the hard drive and it found nothing wrong. Any ideas? Many thanks for all replies. 8. AdamL, so you are saying that the frame rate increased with the beta driver or just the quality of the graphics? I have a 7900GS myself.
  9. It is the Antec SmartPower 2.0 450W PSU. My CPU is the Athlon 64 3700+ 2.2GHz San Diego chip with 1MB L2 cache. Unfortunately it is a 939 socket motherboard (ASRock 939Dual) that I have.
  10. Hello, A non-CM related but technical question, if you don't mind. I currently have an Athlon 64 3700+ CPU and 2GB Ram with a 7900GS video card and also an Antec 450W PSU with a 32A (15A+17A) rating on the 12V railings. I am looking at purchasing an eVGA 8800GTS 320MB video card for my system, but was wondering if it is worth it and could my PSU easily handle the new card at peak loads. The specs for the 8800GTS card says that a 450W PSU with a minimum of 26A on the 12V railings is required. My 450W PSU specs: +3.3V +5V +12V1 +12V2 +5V SB -12V Max. Load 32.0A* 30A* 15A* 17A 2.0A 0.3A Min. Load 0.5A 0.5A 0.4A 0.4A 0A 0A Load Reg. ±5% ±5% ±5% 5% ±5% ±5% Ripple V(p-p) 50mV 50mV 120mV 120mV 50mV 120mV * +5V, +12V1, 12V2 and +3.3V maximum output: 410 Watts max * +5V and +3.3V combined output: 150Watts * +5V, +12V1, 12V2 and +3.3V maximum output: 410 Watts max * +5V and +3.3V combined output: 150Watts 1) Can my current PSU handle the 8800GTS with no issues? Or should I consider purchasing a more powerful PSU? 2) With my current specs, is it worth upgrading from a 7900GS to a 8800GTS with still a 3700+ CPU? I have no desire to go Vista now or in the medium term future so I am not interested in the 8800GTS for DirectX 10 support, just faster performance. Many thanks for any and all replies. 11. I've got a 7900GS and it's working just fine with CMSF. I'm using NGO's 1.9792 drivers.
  12. Well as someone who has only tried the demo, I think maniac_mat may have a point. Especially if that second tank is 1000m away like maniac says it is.
  13. I can't believe the amount of whiners on this forum. Unlike the people who are now whining and didn't seem to have the common sense to wait for the demo, I did wait for the demo because there were some aspects of TOW that I questioned. I didn't just pre-order unlike some of these whiners because: 1) I thought TOW would be cool. 2) I based my pre-order decision on the reputation of BF. 3) I got overexcited and purchased the pre-order without thinking clearly. I can understand why some people, who pre-ordered the game, don't like the game and are upset. I don't understand why these same people are whining on this forum like two year olds about this and that. They made the decision to pre-order without waiting for a demo and now they must live with their decision. If you don't like TOW, fine. If you just keep on reposting childish and stupid comments about wanting your pre-order money back, then it just makes you like the fool for pre-ordering without waiting for the demo. I agree that the term "Grow up!" can be applied. As for me, I am still on the fence and still playing with the demo before I make the final decision to order the game.
  14. This website's chart compares AMD and Intel processors in terms of speed. Though a bit dates, I find the comparsions somewhat interesting. But are the comparisons correct? Myself, I have an Athlon 64 3700+, 2GB RAM and a 7900GS video card so I should be able to play TOW with no problems. 15. Interesting. So even though I set the desktop to 32-bit, a game like CMBB will only play at 16-bit? Is there any type of performance hit for having a desktop color setting different than what a game plays at? I read on another forum that there is a small performance hit.
  16. Just one more question which some of you will probably laugh at. I've always used 16-bit color with all of my video cards, but now with the new LCD I just bought, I've been fooling around with setting my video card (7900GS) to 32-bit color instead of 16-bit. I always thought that I would get a performance hit by using 32-bit, but after doing some tests in the game "Distant Guns!" I think I see a small performance gain. A very small gain, but still a gain to my surprise. Is it worth it going to 32-bit or 16-bit color for gaming? What about a performance decrease with the higher setting? My eyes can't really tell the difference between 16-bit and 32-bit color, but from what I've read on the web other people claim that 32-bit is way better. Many thanks!
  17. Thanks again Schrullenhaft and Redwolf for your replies. I will be getting the 19" Samsung that I mentioned in my above post.
  18. Yes, I was leaning towards a non-widescreen LCD as I do not watch DVD's on my PC, but I also wanted another opinion. The 19" I am aiming to buy is the Samsung 931BF: Samsung 931BF Thanks for your reply, Schrullenhaft.
  19. Hello, Just wanting some advice if I should buy widescreen or not for a new 19" LCD that I am looking to replace my 17" LCD. I do not plan to watch movies, videos or TV on my PC, but use it almost strictly for gaming and business programs. So I am wondering if I should get a 19" non-widescreen LCD with a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 or a 19" widescreen LCD with a resolution of 1440x900? My rig includes a 7900GS PCI-E with a Athlon 64 3700+ CPU. I bought my 17" LCD just about two years ago, but now that I play almost all of my games in 1280x1024 resolution, the text is a bit too small and I would like a bigger monitor. To widescreen or not? Many thanks to any and all replies. [ March 06, 2007, 01:52 PM: Message edited by: Wally's World ]
  20. Well, when I built a new PC last April, I got 2GB of DDR400 RAM because I thought I won't have to increase the amount of memory again until I replace this machine in a few years. I usually used to just buy the minimum hardware needed (in this case, the minimum RAM needed) for a new PC and then end up upgrading even less than a year later. This time, I thought pay now and not later. It was overkill, but I would do it again. For certain games like Take Command's Second Manassas, the extra GB of RAM is welcome.
  21. Schrullenhaft and Redwolf: Again, many thanks for your reply. I bought the BFG 7900GS OC PCI-E and installed it with no problem. It doubled my normal FPS from my old 6600GT AGP.
