1.
quote:
Originally posted by rune: Rich, It is the hi res grass that is the killer. Change that and try just vehicle mods and I bet you don't get the stutter. That being said, there are some rune scenarios that can make ANY computer slow down, processing the turn. Battle of the Bulge based on the movie [in an anti-grog moment] evsn slows down my system which screams. As a temptation for CM2, wait til you see the historical battles I have planned. Research is almost complete for a few, and more research is being done for even more scenarios. Rune

I've had to take out the hires grass and the hires buildings. CM1 now works fine until I play a huge map and then the scrolling gets choppy. It really doesn't look like CM2 will work very well on my system. It will work, but not very well. But I'll try the demo and then see.
 2.
quote:
Originally posted by rune: Rich, I think Steve means for the stock game. The mods are third party affairs and can impact the game and computer differently. You cannot expect him to make a hardware recommendation for anything but the stock game. Rune

Oh, I understand that. But he said my system is TWICE what is needed for cm1. If that's the case, I shouldn't have ANY problem on a huge map and I shouldn't have ANY problem with hires mods. And I do. With that in mind, when he says my system is BARELY good enough for cm2 I think he is being optimistic about me being able to comfortably run the game. No problem. I asked how my system would fare with cm2 and it looks like it wouldn't fare well. At least I still have cm1. With all the scenarios/operations from you and others (along with the random generator) I'll never run out. CM is a game that keeps giving and giving and giving.....
 3. Steve:
quote:
Rich, that system you got there will be fine. I'd put it towards a hair below the target system. Remember that the system you have now is about twice what our target system was for CM1 Obviously faster/more is always better for a game like CM (i.e. 3D and loaded up), but what you have there will work just fine for CM2.

I respectfully but wholeheartedly disagree. With cm now, if I use hi-res grass or buildings OR use a huge map, the scrolling gets very choppy. And this is for twice the target system?
 4. Just in case.....I find myself irresistably drawn to CM2, I wonder how my system would actually fare. It is a k62-400, 160 meg of pc100 ram, and a voodoo3 2000.
 5.
quote:
But, I do believe that the majority of the folks who have posted on this board since the long-ago beforetimes of Pre-Beta Days would upgrade an existing system, just to play another CM in any theater. I also believe that an even larger majority would upgrade to play CM2 East Front.

Here's why I think sales will go down with CM2. I think that virtually everyone who would be interested in a CM type game bought CM1. Most, maybe 80-90% of those will also buy 2. But there will be a lot of folks who don't want to upgrade and a lot who feel having CM1 will give them all the pleasure they need and a lot who aren't too interested in playing the east front. I actually fit into all three categories. And I don't believe there will be many new people who weren't interest in CM1 but will buy CM2. That's my take on it and, real frankly, I hope I'm wrong and BTS does very well.
 6.
quote:
Yup. Rich... we predict we will sell far more units of CMBB than CMBO.

I hope you do. I just don't think so.
quote:
Like I said in an earlier post, you can not seriously tell me you haven't got your $45 worth out of CM1 about a thousand times over?

And I never said I didn't. I play CM more than any other game and that's a fact. But it hits the limit of my machine. I've been buying new computers and upgrading since 1981 for games and that's enough. I have no particular love for the east front (however if you came out with a pacific game I'd seriously reconsider) so I won't be upgrading again. Believe me I appreciate all the work you've put into the game - it's the best I've ever seen, but it has infinite replayability and I see no need for another, even if it has a few more bells and whistles.
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by Fenris: I would pay money to have new CM2 features retro fitted to CMBO if possible. How many other people would be prepared to pay? After all BTS is a business, making money is the idea, $15 or $20 patch CD or download wouldn't cause me any grief. Reg's Fen [ 06-06-2001: Message edited by: Fenris ]

I agree. CM1 and CM2 are basically the same game. Sure, 2 will have more features, different terrain, and different units but that's what makes for an excellent expansion pack. Like for $25. I think BTS will see sales go down for CM2. I don't believe there will be many new people drawn to the game and also many, like myself, will be happy with just the west front and see no need to spend $50 on what is basically the same thing on other fronts. Heck, I haven't even downloaded the desert rat program and that's free. It looks great but I just don't see the need since it doesn't include additional features and I still have hundreds of scenarios/operations plus a random generator to play.
 8. I for one won't be buying any more incarnations of CM. Don't get me wrong. I REALLY like it. But that's it for two reasons. First, I would have to upgrade my computer and I like it the way it is. But even more important, I object to the way companies make separate games for what should be expansion packs to the original. Many of you will disagree but that's how I feel.
 9. Yes, I also like Deanco's interface mod. To answer Brad, I only play against the ai so am not concerned about last minute rushes. But I would like to see a random end turn program that would end the scenario maybe 3-5 turns either way of the final turn for battles or scenarios, not something you would have to check and would work only one way for scenarios. I can see its usefulness for multi but I don't do that so it just doesn't suit me.
 10. Yes, the Endgame Randomizer is what I was referring to. Thank you for the link.
 11. Wait a minute. I think you misunderstood. I REALLY like CM. What I don't like is the Badco program and it won't uninstall.
 12. Tried this out and sorry didn't like it much. Tried to uninstall and all it did was reinstall. How do I get rid of it?
 13. The best way to have a separate dfdr game is to do a separate full install of the game. You can change the name of the install folder. This way you have everything in your registry and it will all work properly. Add the patch. Delete all the scenarios. Add the mod. And you're ready to go.
 14. I'm right in the southwest part of Seattle doing some work on the second floor of an apartment building. And never felt a thing. I was surprised when someone told me there was an earthquake. Of course, since I'm from Los Angeles originally, it has to be a big one before I feel it.
 15. Originally posted by Silver Fox: Oops! Carriers at War is much earlier than the 90's. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No it's not. I didn't get my first 386-33 until Dec. '91 Actually you're both right. It came out in the early 80s for the Apple II. I can remember playing it. Then it came out in the early 90s for the pc. Played that one too.
 16. When I try to move some of the mod files to my zip drive, they won't go and give me a message "can't create file." Anybody know what gives?

 18. Just wanted to add my two cents. Regardless of what others have said on that other thread, I very much appreciate all the work and effort that goes into CMHQ.
 19. Would very much appreciate an email to rich12545@aol.com
 20. The one improvement I'd like to see, and I emailed BTS about it (they said they would consider it) is mouse wheel support. If you move the mouse sideways with the wheel depressed, the view moves side to side, move it up and down and the zoom changes. If you turn the wheel, the view moves up and down. I think think this would improve the interface a lot and wouldn't take much to implement.
 21. For one thing, you should install (reinstall) the video driver after directx.
 22. Originally from West Los Angeles. Now in Tacoma, WA. And it doesn't usually get as hot as 85 degrees.
 23. If it is deemed to be a "Third Reich" document then I think that no copyright exists since the Third Reich was dissolved It was written before the third reich. But the weimar republic is no more also. In addition (and I might be wrong) it looked like the original poster was being sarcastic when he called mein kampf a masterpiece.
 24. by the time the games arrive in Canada- CM and Normandy '44 together cost me almost $160. Yeah, but that's only $20 in real money.
 25. And I hope mouse wheel support gets in.
