  1. You 2 are amazing, when your manager comes out I'd pay $10 for your work. Many thanks. Patrick
  2. CC4 is a POS but when you modify it with the 16mb patch and True Green or MOM's mods the game is transformed into a playable game. Patrick
  3. So what happen after your one minute was up? KABOOM! Back to stupid moves, I had a small US armor force in a QB defending against a PzGrenadier force. I had managed to knock out all of the opposing forces vehicles and most of its heavy weapons, but I couldn't get a bead ot the dismounted troops hiding in the forest. Defending my VL's were 2 inf squads , .50 and .30 mg's with a half track. My armor was far away on a search and destroy. The missing Ger. inf had snuck to the edge of the forest closest to my VL's. 3 turns before the end of the scenario the PzGrenadiers charged out of cover and stomped my defenders with a human wave into the mud with no quarter given. My tanks? They were stuck in the mud and couldn't get back fast enough to cover my rear! This was against the AI. and left me awed and humbled!
  4. Midnight Madness is a killer. I just finished the scenario a couple of hours ago as a draw after losing all my armor, guns, tracks and 2/3's of my troops. I also left my foxholes but I retreated back into the town and fought a pitched battle for every building in the center. The Germans lost 20 vehicles but their remaining vehicles and troops methodically smashed the walls down around my squads. If the scenario went beyond 25 turns the rest of my depleted force would have been vaporized. Patrick PS. One of the best scenarios I've seen.
  5. I think this is a great idea too. Hope this gets included in CM2. Patrick
  6. Hi, PBEM = Play By Email Mail. This is a good game and hey I started out pretty much like you're doing now a few months ago. Didn't have a clue, but this bulletin board has some very good people and they're always willing to help out. best Patrick
  7. Quite an interesting post and I'm surprised how civilized its been. What many people fail to realize is that the Pax Americana is an entirely different form of "controlled peace". Unlike the Roman and British empires were rules of might, the American version is one of cooperation, essentially. What is Nato, but a collective military agreement where all members are supposed to act as a united group against aggression. How about the Gulf War, which I agree was only for the protection of oil, but don't forget it wasn't only the USA that benefited from a free oil source (Western Europe benefited from this war too). American leadership was crucial in maintaining the Gulf War Alliance and no other country had the political will or military might to produce anything similar. The American government doesn't always get involved for purely selfish reasons. Did we want to get involved in Yugoslavia initially. NO. If we were as selfish as others state we would not have gotten involved except to provide transport and logistical services to the EU. We had no economic or political motivation to get involved there. The French and British governments literally twisted our arms into becoming physically involved on the ground which we were loathed to do in the 1st place. Our allies certainly couldn't win the peace on their own because realistically they didn't have the political will, or the military forces to win a conflict on their own (if a conflict goes over 2 weeks max the Euro armies will be out of ammo). When it comes to American Aid there are no strings attached except when it comes to military aid. American food aid must logically come from our farm supplies. Economic aid to foreign countries has no strings where the beneficiary is forced to buy American goods (tractors, hvy equipment), unlike the Japanese or the French e.g. As an expatriate American I am proud of what my country has achieved in the world. That we are an empire is ridiculous for anyone to state. Do we collect tribute and taxes from any other country or their citizens? Not to my knowledge. Unlike other past empires, ,America is the only one that seeks to improve the world order. We export more than Big Mac's and Levi's, but also solid political concepts as described in "The Bill Of Rights" and a belief in a "Rule Of Law". America is not perfect, but we also do our best to correct our wrongs sooner or later. Patrick

  10. Hey I'm on the other side of the world from all you guys out there. for me it's a San Miguel Pale Pilsen, or when I can afford it a nice bottle of Merlot or even a Shiraz. Patrick
  11. Well glad to know we have some enthusiasts in this side of the world! seems like we are in a distinct minority. Have you gotten your copy yet? Allbest Patrick
  12. Obviously the biggest market for CM is the US then Europe. I'm an American based in Manila, Philippines any other enthusiasts in the Far East?
  13. I ordered one also. Anyone from Asia ordered the game, Mac or PC? Patrick
  14. I'm a photojournalist working in Asia. www.wirephoto.com/lucero Who's Lewis?
  15. John, That sounds like good advice will try it out. Tried the 31MB DL but my ISP gets maxed out. Will check out the ATI site also. All best Patrick
  16. Thanks Charles, I'll try and see if that will change anything, but when I unstuff the 4 DL's thee sections automatically unstuffs as Combat Mission Demo; CM Demo 1; 2 and 3. Each folder has: CM Demo, Scenarios (CE and Valley), Data (8 files), PBEM and Saved Games . When I double click on the CM Demo icon I can open up as far as loading 3d graphics, but then it goes black and returns to the desktop. The Gold demo also crashed my old demo so I took it out of the old demo folder and the original demo plays fine again. The Gold Demo is in its own folder but cannot open. This may be because I have yet to buy a video card for my 233 DT Mac with only 6 mb's of installed VRAM. I'm waiting for the Voodoo 4 PCI card when it comes out in July rather than buy the ATI Orion. Although I have yet to see the Gold Demo in the flesh yet I would like to thank you, Steve, Fionn, MadMatt and all the others who developed and worked on CM for doing something extra-ordinary in the wargaming field. I should hope that this proves to be a major turning point for your company and opens up more opportunities for success and creative development. Three cheers and all best, Patrick
  17. Germanboy, well on the DL apge you have the option to DL either as a 31MB all in one file or in 4 separate files at 8.7MB's for the 1st 3 files and 5.4MB as the last file. I then unstuff each file as CM demo 1 to 4, or am I to unstuff each file into each other? I've tried keeping it separate and again unstuffed it into each other and either way all I get is a black screen and a return to my desktop. Many thanks Patrick
  18. Juju, Gosh I feel like that's happened to me too recently! Glad to hear I'm not the only one to walk into ambushes All best Patrick PS, good advice on playing both sides of the hotseat. Never thought of doing that before, but will try it out when I get some time.
  19. I also have the same problem, but I'm using a 233 G3 desktop no video card and only 6 mb of vram. Same thing happens to me when I choose a scenario I get a black screen and then it returns to my desktop. Is this because I don't have a video card? Initially I thoought it was because when I downloaded the Gold Demo in 4 parts I didn't unstuff the games correctly. As it is I have 4 separate folders for the G/Demo. Am I too unstuff the 4 parts into each other or keep it separate? AS you can see I'm a bit clueless here too! All best, Patrick
  20. Lurker, So after finding kitchen sinks in the larger buildings and using them against your opponent what were the effects? Are they as effective as learned members of this community have stated or is it all as substantial as the methane gas produced by that frozen cow in Normandy? In hindsight that's maybe why we had mad cows a few years ago. OB'G, Tyson seems to have as much heart as one of their frozen chickens. All best to all Patrick
  21. Once you figure out the orders phase you'll see how intuitive this game plays. I've got the 233 DT Mac w/out a video card but 6mb of vram and the game plays great but will certainly look into upgrading to a video card. I'm an avid CC3/4 fan (plays great on VPC), but it doesn't compare to CM when it comes to realism and the level of control you have in the order phase. Being able to view at multiple levels is also an incredible experience especially when you see a tank come over a hilltop and starts aiming at you. That CM is not in RT may be an initial disappointment when you first try it out but after you get into a game especially against a human opponent this simultaneous turn phase system has plenty of merits. Patrick
  22. Fionn and Germanboy, My! I am impressed by how learned you and the other people who populate this forum are. I thought I was up on my history but I am now humbled by such lumnaries as the 2 of you so clearly show. Like lighting up a fart. I'm quite sure you 2 are onto something though since there must be a definite correlation between KS / Porta Sink Ausf D and the Kartoffenschaelblahblah (I give up on this German spelling) bedpans and how France fell during the blitzkreig. Sacre' bleu, the French General Staff just threw in the apron when confronted with rotten potato blitzen, smelly pickled pig knuckles and sauerkraut. I know its true as I read it somewhere. Black Sabot, I read your thread on those frozen chickens. That's a pretty hot topic here in the Philippines (aside from kidnappings and how to promote the Philippines as a vacation spot you can't escape from), the local chicken farmers are ready to go to war against Tyson Chicken/USA. It's much to do with the dumping of frozen chicken parts vs whole chickens. I think this may be a topic for CM6 that'll be interesting for all on this fine forum, "Chicken Wars on the Frozen Fields". Oh yeah, send your chickens soon as AP shot is useless against those GI's in the forest. All best to all Patrick
  23. Juju, See what I mean, my version doesn't come with kitchen sinks or exploding toilet bowls. This makes me wonder whether CM scenarios are fair and square. Perhaps Steve can throw in a bedpan in CM2? I think I may be lacking vital material somewhere. Juju If you've got some extra sinks hiding along with the beer in that town of yours I'll be more than happy to take them off your hands. Why not meet me in the forest and we'll have a picnic. I planning to have a barbecue and guess what's the main course. All best Patrick
  24. I am currently playing Riesburg as the Germans for the 1st time and my 1st PBEM ever . It is turn 12, I'm out of mortar ammo, no HE for the 88 and trying to stop the US troops with AP rounds. All his tanks are dead and I'm in position to encircle a pocket of about 40+ GI's on my right flank. My left flank is stonewalling his advance there too but I'm seriously low on ammo, period. I can't find any kitchen sinks in the village, I could cetainly use them if they were there. Or even a broken toilet. Am I playing an early version or is there another update to the demo no one talks about. Duh, Patrick
