  2. Hi thanks for the reply. We're both playing thew latest 1.12 version of CM and we're also both on OS9.1. Well I';ve only just rebuilt my desktop the other day to see if that would change things...no luck. Will try zapping my pram and check my system with Techtools Pro3.3 to see if that will pick up any faults that may be causing the corruption in this scenario file. We're testing via PBEM so tcp/ip isn't involved. Will keep you posted. all best Patrick
  3. Hi , I am play testing a huge scenario with my co-designer and we have come across a Mac error type 11 which then crashes the game for me. This scenario is huge and file sizes now that our forces are engaged are tyupically 2MB and over is size. When the error occurs the file size is reduced to 137k to 225k. The movie plays but unit orders are mixed up it seems. Pathways for vehicles are confused and ending in traffic jams while original orders were carefully given to avoid such. Also a gun unit emplaced within a building is seemingly invincible to direct hits from return fire. On hitting the done buttom after giving orders for the next turn the game takes forever to process the orders and then crashes with a dialog bosx stating it is an error type 11. WE are both playing this on either a G3 or G4 Mac. Playtesting the scenario against the AI showed no problems. Only now while testing the scenario against each other have we experienced this error. Any idea why this is being generated. WE've played the bad turns over twice and still keep getting errors. We also tried sending stuffit files and uncompressed files to test but also no luck. If anyone has any ideas why the game is producing incorrect instruction files we would appreciate any help. If anyone would like to look at the scenario or its files I can email it to you. All best Patrick
  4. Good idea, but will this work on Mac's. If it can how does one install it? Thanks Patrick
  5. During the 70's the US and German militaries developed a prototype called the MBT 70 armed with a 155mm smoothbore canon. It was essentialy the same gun used as the Sheridan capable of firing a AT rocket as well as a HE shell. Needless to say the joint venture was a failure but a number of innovations used for the MBT 70 eventually fond its way into the M-1 Abrams. cheers Patrick
  6. I've only purchased air suport three times and in 2 games my air support didn't show up. In a op where air support was in the force mix it did show up but got promptly shot down by my opponent's AA units. In the one and only time that my air support did show up for a ME it wrecked havoc on my opponent's AFV's destroying 1 Hetzer and 7 halftracks. All best Patrick
  7. This is quite a good thread. In 2 current ladder matches where I'm playing as US force in one and Polish Airborne in another I've had good success in defeating the Axis armor. In the 1st fight QB my opponent had 3 Panther's, 2 MK IV's and 2 Hummel's -vs- 2 Churchills w/75's, 2 M-18's, 2-M8 HMC's and a wasp with 155 and 4.2 mortar artillery. We have both lost most of our armor and both down to 1-Hummel and 1 Churchill. The 3 Panther's I took out with 4.2 mortar fire, bazooka and by a M-18. Artillery has done wonders in neutralizing his infantry units, mostly smg platoons. AS it stands the balance is still up in the air but his forces are being attrited faster than mines even with his infantry in buildings. If ou can afford the artillery get it to keep your enemy off balance and pulverize him. The 2nd ME battle my Polish Airborne are against a strong inf. force in a village with hvy tree coverage. I sent a significant force to the outskirts of the village to sit in the woods and snipe at his troops occupying the VL's. Eventually he brings out his armor force of 1-Panther, 1-Hetzer a Stug III, and 2 halftracks with 75mm inf. guns. My force (that he has seen so far) consists of 2 companies of airborne inf., 2 Daimler scout cars,2-M8 HMC's, and one M-24. My armor is down to Daimler, a M8-HMC after 12 turns but in turn he is also down to 1-Halftrack with inf gun and a Stug III with 2 mg halftracks. HIs armor losses were taken out by Piat's and A Daimler. HIs infantry lured out of the buildings (in his desire to kill my troops)into the woods are now getting pounded by my mortar fire from an 81 FO and I've got another fresh company of para's moving in on his flank along with 2 M-18's I hid way in the back as reserves. The game isn't won yet but with his armor currently outflanked and his infantry under fire it's only a matter of time before I can tie the noose around his force. Point is Allied forces can win but tactics and proper use of firepower at the right time can defeat a seemingly superior German force of smg companies and Panther's. Buying heavy tanks isn't necessarily a ticket to win (even a Churchill). Best Patrick

  9. I've had moderate success with FT's on offense in "These Hills Are Alive". My first team in a mop up of the German's front line burned out a bunker after I had swept away the defending platoons in that area. The idiot however shot his whole load of fuel into the bunker before it surrendered. My second team moving in support of assaulting troops on a defended hill with a pillbox, bunker and barbed wire panicked the defending infanty behind the barbed wire and made life easier for the assult troops as they eliminated the defenders quickly after that. On moving forward the FT then took out the pillbox and ran out of fuel. This is one of the toughest battles I've ever seen and the US attacker although looks powerful point wise against the Germans is at the disadvantage because on board mortars are useless and for the most part all his armor will never come into play. FT's are quite useful but much care is needed in their use. Tactics and bringing what firepower you have available to bear on the Germans is the only way to win. My opponent surrendered.
  10. Full Fog Of War If you had that turned off the your opponent AI and/or human has perfect knowledge of where your units are. All best Patrick
  11. Not Tiger but it's as slow as your dead tanks now. I had forgotten you still had another tank or 2 there! Re. Churchills I sure hope you're talking in general and not in our bout! Thanks for the smiley tip. All best Patrick
  12. My tanks stuck in the mud, but not as slow as your dead M-36's, they ain't never gonna move no more! ;-P
  13. SPOILERS ALL THE WAY THROUGH. To the designer of this battle, excellent design. I am playing the battle blind against a very capable ranking player on the RD ladder who I believe have played it before also. It is difficult but I feel I have done pretty well in killing his defending troops. I have lost my share of men but I believe he is down to his last 3 or 4 inf platoons. The tanks are of little consequence and I lost most of my tanks to mud and mines, but no problem. I still have 3 tanks and 2 halftracks and they are all getting into position to support my push when I'm ready. I haven't seen his tanks just heard the sound contacts but he's hampered by the terrain as much as I am and it would be difficult for him to get to my units without becoming exposed to my bazookas. This is hand to hand and by going slow with scouts on sneak and troops close behind to follow on and fight whoever the scouts find, I've been able to win most of my engagements with moderate casualties vs his getting wiped out. I'm currently on the move to root out a pioneer platoon in the forest leading to the rear of his town and VL. In one particular battle in the main forest on the allied left where the pillbox is, After destroying a Volksturm platoon there,I rushed my force towards the center and stopped 20 meters from where my motar unit had stumbled on a regular inf platoon. I believe he must have been surprised as he was running his units to outflank my force, (thinking I would still be laagering around his dead Volksturm) but instead ran into a hasty ambush. I lost 2 platoon hq units and another 7 men in various squads but he lost his whole platoon in 2 minutes. I also have my share of casualties but after just receiving 2 reinforcements in the last 6 turns I'm feeling confident again. I know I have enough force to take his pioneers out and push to his rear. Come to think of it I hope he's not reading this! ') Once I get behind the town I don't think he'll be very happy. We are at turn 26 and I'm pretty sure he's got his tricks up his sleeve but he's running out of room to maneuver and men faster than I am. Of course if he gets any major reinforcements or any additional artillery I may be speaking prematurely. Even if I did lose it doesn't matter since I know I put up a pretty good offense and I am enjoying the the tactical and intellectual challenge of a very fine scenario. All best Patrick
  14. Considering the state of the Soviet army in the early war years I believe toilet's should be included as well as kitchen sinks. For whole armies were encircled and wiped out and they must have all been scared s***less and since many units didn't have rifles for an attack but had to pick up a gun when someone fell, well that kitchen sink would be preferable than bare hands! Lastly a better artillery model for the FO. Patrick
  15. OP's are a step up from a single game. I'm Juju's opponent in this Redoubt OP and I second his comments. There is a bit of strategic planning involved as you think about what you want to accomplish in the current game to set you up for the 2nd and future battles in the OP to come. Redoubt also is quite a good battle very balanced and poses a lot of "what if" questions as you plan your turns. The US forces have quantity vs the elite German defender's in great defensive positions. Not easy to crack open as I'm finding out . Patrick
  16. If BTS is out of stock, that implies they are going into their 3rd or 4th reprint of CM. Is it possible CM maybe expanding its niche market. That's great! All best Patrick
  17. Churchills are good tanks, but like anything they can be defeated with good tactics. I faced a Churchill with infantry support and kept the troops occupied with my infantry. In the meantime I had a Hetzer weaving in and out of cover taking potshots at the Churchills front while my JagPanther popped up on its flank to take it out with one shot. Patrick
  18. I'll agree to that, Aikidorat ihas done the Mac community a great service and is a good guy too! Patrick PS. Aikidrat if you're free for a pbem game lets do one.
  19. Well if you had moved your grey whales in a overwatch position they could have belly flopped themselves on that M4 and save your Panther the trouble of getting brewed. Tactics it's always tactics! . Best Patrick Couldn't resist!
  20. Is this a Windows virus or is it cross platform and affects Mac users? Thanks Patrick
  21. I don't see why they couldn't. German troops on the eastern front often picked up PSSH 41's to augment their squad firepower. For that matter would a inf. group be able to use an artillery piece if it was captured intact. Would that be realistic? Best Patrick
  22. The Hetzer is a real killer. When handled with skill it can outmaneuver other tanks hands down and come out on top of most fights. Patrick
  23. Well I see 2 of my most recent opponents on this thread and I will agree with both of them. Taunts in a game is part of any psych war plus it is funny, especially if you can get the upper hand and make them eat their words! Some of my current opponents however don't say more than 2 words throughout the whole game and just send the game file. I find that more unnerving than reading blood thirsty taunts. For one I don't get any insight into how they think . Whether they'll be aggressive or cautious. In 2 games I'm playing now and possibly a 3rd one I was on the losing end, having lost troops, positionand my own morale. However by consolidatiing my forces and adapting a change of tactics suitable for the terrain and the forces at hand I was able to turn the tide where I am now with a distinct advantage and my opponent getting more than he bargained for. If I lost my nerve I doubt that I would have been able to fight back and turn a losing situation to a win or a draw. All best Patrick
