  2. Gentlemen, the accolades are received with much gratitude. Congratulations Buddy. Tell us what you had...er, what, or even better the name of the new creation. I hope all went well. Your map was a good one. I don't think it could have been all that much better. You are too hard on yourself. But that's okay. Do another. Don't let that stop those creative juices from flowing! ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  3. We certainly welcome you to visit us. Let us know how to make it better. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  4. Kinch has done a great job laying out and organizing our page. He has gone above and beyond. You'll find that the scenarios download quickly. No waiting. Take advantage of these new ones. The AAR on Benicourt is from Paul Bunning and is very well done! Makes for a good read. It's written like a novel. http://wbr.thegamers.net Then go to Boots N' Tracks section. You'll see the link in the menu to the left. Enjoy. Thanks Kinch, Frank Donati and Paul Bunning. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  5. How very kind of you all, gentlemen. I thank you. I've come to know and appreciate so many of you in these last few months. You've been a great encouragement to me. I remember Mord. It was my pleasure to be of some help. That is what it's all about, sharing what we have and know. Thank you again...WB ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  6. Thanks my fellow warriors! 3 years...sometimes it seems like 3 month, and then occasionally 30 years! But it's been fun. I've learned a lot and made a heap of friends. I'd call that a good investment, wouldn't you? ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  7. I know you got plans now, Chris Just in time for the weekend too! Is that coincidence or what ! ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  8. Your question is a little confusing, endit. You speak of 400 meters. That kind of setting is reserved for operations I believe. Are you doing an operation or a scenario (battle)? All units always start on the edge of the map when you are in the scenario editor. You must place them where you want them. The AI or the game will not place them for you. That goes for both nationalities. If you place them within a friendly zone, not padlocked, the person can move them within that zone when he starts the scenario. The AI, in turn, will shuffle units around within the zone as it thinks best unless they are padlocked. I hope this helps. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com [This message has been edited by Wild Bill Wilder (edited 10-26-2000).]
  9. Somone was doing the Beach scene in SPR but I never saw the final product. It may be posted on one of the SP support sites. Others have done similar scenarios. I used the grain tile to represent beach in a couple I have done. At best, however, the game does not really have the tools you need for a proper invasion scenario, unless you rig a few things. The Honchos at BTS just did not feel that smaller level of this game justified the ability to include invasion scenarios. But I should let them speak for themselves. I do have a SPR scenario based on the defense of Captain Miller and the paras at Ramelle posted on the Combat Mission HQ scenario depot. It has been well received and is the most downloaded scenario there, now about 2,000 downloads. Its fun. I must have played it 30 times myself and still do on occasion. My long term dream is the Pacific in CM, though that may not be possible. Then we could indeed have some nice invasion battles. Let's hope BTS hears my pitiful plea and does it. Good luck with your design, Private Parts... ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  10. The new Boots N' Tracks page of the Wild Bill's Raiders site is up and running. There is a lot of good stuff there, including four brand spanking new scenarios from three different designers. I think you will be pleased. There are also some good gaming tips, some new pics from Sinpoet and other things you will enjoy. Kevin Kinscherf, one of the Raiders put the page together for us and did a fantastic job. Kinch, as we call him, has really pitched and done his part as a part of the CM Raider Team. Our site works closely in support of Madmatt's site, both of us at TGN. Go here: http://wbr.thegamers.net Then click on Boots N' Tracks in the menu to the left. You'll find it all there! Please, give us some feedback. Let us know what you think. We can take it...I think ! ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com

  13. One of them, Mr. Clark, Bridgehead at Benicourt, should be going up today along with three other new scenarios on the Boots N Track site at the Wild Bill's Raiders address. http://wbr.thegamers.net Check your mail in the meantime. Go here and click on Boots N' Tracks on the side menu. THe new page should be up. We hope to have soon our own little list of scenarios we have published available to download the scenarios that have been published at B&T. I'll try to get all 20+ scenarios and operations of mine up there too. Maybe this will help. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com

  15. I know! I still have my 10,000 or so 25mm or 1/72 scale figures, all handpainted, from Roman times to Desert Storm, companies or battalions of Roman legions, Huns and Barbarians, Knights, serfs, Napoleonic, Civil War, old West, British 19th Century with Zulu and Arabs, WW1, WW2, including Germany, Japan, US, USMC, France, Russia, etc. and on to Desert Storm and modern cold war figures. It includes all of the old ESCI, Airfix, Revell and Fujimi figures and others. It was a project that took seven years to complete (1986-1993). Now I'm looking for a place to sell them or give them away. I just can't use them anymore with this poor eyesight. I had the opportunity to do some beautiful dioramas with these, but that is now history. I was fortunate enough to sell my 5,000 1/285 miniatures. I lost money...but I didn't just get nothing in return. My only salvation now is the computer and the wargames here. My modeling days, I fear, have come to an end. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com

This site is put together by Raider Kevin Kinscherf and is very well done. Scenarios, gaming hints, maps, special features. It has a lot to offer. I hope a lot of folks will dog ear this web page and pay us a visit. We soon hope to have our own scenario archive where the more than one dozen scenarios published there will be available. Pay us a visit. We'd love to see you there. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  18. My wargaming history goes back to the middle 60s when my first games were AK and Midway from AH. From there I purchased every game that they produced as soon as it came out...all of them. I remember there was a legal little game they produced where you took the role of a lawyer. I can't remember the name of it. When Squad Leader came out, I think I must have been one of the "first kids on the block" to get it. In fact, the first group of "Wild Bill's Raiders" designed a Pacific variant for the original SL. It was well received, with over 30 scenarios, even counters (that you had to cut and paste). It was finally featured in the old "Wargamer" magazine in 1983 and AH got very upset about it. In fact they made all kinds of legal threats. We were not making money with it, but that is a long story. So I gave AH the copyright and the material. It made me sad and bitter for a while. That coupled with a divorce and I walked away from wargaming for five years. I even sold my collection of over 300 wargames from AH, SPI, Battlefront, GDW, and a host of others, plus all my issues of the General for $300. Man, I wish I had not done that Now AH is gone and I'm still here...ironic, isn't it? Later I became fast friends with the old AH crowd then at Talonsoft where I had the opportunity to work with them...names we all know, Bob McNamara, Charles Kibler and others. I say all that to simple say that SL/ASL were "my" games. I mean by that it was the best game I ever played. But now with computers, electronic gaming and my deterioriating vision, I am back in business again . Ramblings of an old man. Forgive me. Certainly, if you are interested in giving a helping hand, I'd love to have your expertise! Look for a private e-mail. In the meantime, go ahead with your urge. Scratch the itch. Give it a try. Play with the editor first, just play with it. Get a feel for it. Make some maps, pick some units, see how it works. Get a good understanding of the parameters. When you feel comfortable with it, try a simple scenario. Play it. See what you did wrong. Improve it. Fine tune it. Send it to a friend. Let him play it. See what he thinks. Always save and save often. This is the primary WBR rule for design...SAVE! Nothing more heart-rending than seeing 3 hours work disappear in a power outage or a frozen screen I look forward to your handiwork ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com [This message has been edited by Wild Bill Wilder (edited 10-25-2000).]
  19. I've got a new one coming for you, Coop. Title: Blood and Bocage. I intend to offer the map as a separate download for those who want to use it. If you wish, I'll send you a copy of the map. I'm not saying that it is the best. Far from it. There are some very good ones out there. But you are welcome to it if you wish. 20. On the way to you, Colin. Thanks for putting them on your site. Be sure and let folks know they are there. There are a couple of them that are committed to just one place. I will honor that, but you are more than welcome to the rest. I appreciate you being kind enough to put them on your site. One question, though, is this for Mac or PC? I'm not clear if the scenarios you need are for both. Mine are for PC. I'll wait till I hear from you before I send them.. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  21. Very nice thoughts gentlemen and they are much appreciated. This is an incentive to do more and try to make 'em a little better. I appreciate the notes very much. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  22. Thanks guys. This is as I anticipated. The majority prefer a moderate sized battle in terms of units and turns. There are many good suggestions here as well, such as # of units vs scenario turns, and others. The matter of a variable ending is under discussion. I have opted for this very strongly since I think knowing what turn the game will end exactly determines many times how a gamer will play the scenario. I concur with you. An occasional big battle is great, but for the most part a fight that can be completed in one sitting is enough for most of us. And we can, of course, throw in an occasional quickie for a sleepless night, or if the family is not quite ready to sit down for dinner. Do people still do that, or is it a part of my distant recollection as a boy? Off topic, sorry ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  23. To be fair to Madmatt, it is really not his fault. He is unhappy about this situation as I am. The Game (scenario) Depot is going to get a revision. The poor old program is just overloaded currently. You can be sure that if Matt can find a way to speed it up, he will. "Slow" is not in his vocabulary. He leaves me out of breath ! Anyone who changes his website every two or three days is working at a pace that I could never hope to contend with. It has been mentioned once and again to TGN and I hope it is resolved. In the future, I will start looking for a new, easily accessible site for you. We may also make a download section within the Boots N' Tracks section of the Raider page which might be a little quicker for you. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  24. Mr Clark or any of you...anytime you have a hard time downloading any of my work, drop me a note, tell me what you want, and I'll send it to you. I did not put in all this hard work to have the efforts become inaccessible for you. You just let me know if you can't get it, and I'll send it to you directly. And it will be a pleasure to do so. Thanks. I hope you really enjoy all of them. More are on the way. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
  25. Hey Dave! Looks like I might not make it this year to Birmingham, so head on over any day and we'll get us some more of that good fried chicken. Bring old Reb with you! Food is on the fire. Southern hospitality awaits any of my good friends on this forum. ------------------ Wild Bill Lead Tester Scenario Design Team Combat Mission-Beyond Overlord billw@matrixgames.com
