  1. I wanted to ask this before everyone gets the game and starts disappearing from the Board. My brother is in the Army Corps of Engineers stationed in Stuttgart Germany and I plan on visiting him there. Does anyone know if there are any good WWII sites to visit within a couple of hours drive? Are there any guided tours for individuals or well marked battle fields. So far our only plan is to go up to the Bastogne area and Remagen.
  2. I think I can understand what Jeff is saying only from the point of view of a game setup-ambush using a faust/schreck/bazooka. At what distance does the accuracy of such a weapon start rolling off to a point where the unit using it should move closer to a target/ambush marker. I’ve never needed this information myself but if I had it I’d probably use it.
  3. There’s only one part I don’t get, the part after…. “ONCE AND FOR All”
  4. That's right, William the Conqueror as a Norman wasn't he?
  5. New Amsterdam most definitely. It was run by a guy named Peter Styvasant. The wall on Wall Street was put up to keep the English out. I believe there was a war between the Dutch and the English in Europe and when it ended one of the things the Dutch had to give up was it's holdings in the New World including New Amsterdam. Here on Long Island there are still a lot of Dutch names and other influences. In fact one of the larger Counties is called Nassau after the House of William of Orange (William the Conqueror). I always wondered what a direct translation of Nassau was. The County symbol is a gold Lion on an orange background. Dutch Schultz was a hot shot gangster in New York during Prohibition in the 1930's. His big mistake was getting on the wrong side of another gangster called "Lucky" Luciano but that's another story…. After that a lot of guys with the last name Schultz was nicked named "Dutch".
  6. For the people overseas (from the US mainland that is): I'll bet within a day or two of the players here getting the game you'll start to find plenty of home grown scenarios at various sites that should hold you over until the game reaches you.
  7. My favorite gangster was Dutch Shultz
  8. Whoa, 168th Street, that’s almost in the St Lawrence Seaway ain’t it? I live about an hour and a half east of the city (at 4am with dry roads on a clear night ), out on Long Island.
  9. Here’s my two cents: 1) “Panzer Battles” by F.W. Von Mellinthin 2) “Against the Panzers: United States Infantry VS German Tanks 1944-45 A History of eight battles told through Diaries, Unit Histories and Interviews” by Allyn R Vannoy & Jay Karamales 3) “German Battle Tactics on the Eastern Front” by Steven H Newton 4) “German Squad Tactics in WWII” by Matthew Gajkowski
  10. As far as a minimum range for Tanks, in Last Defense I drove a Wolverine right up to a German MG, the turret traversed, the gun depressed to a point that looked like it was pressed right to the machine gunners head and fired. All I had was AP shells left so it only killed one guy but it sure shook the rest up. They got up and ran into the woods with AP shells plowing up the earth all around them.
  11. Along time ago in a galaxy far far away BTS was giving out a WWII Print of a Panther G for preordering CM. How many did they give out and how fast did they run out. Perhaps that would give a hint on how sales are progressing.
  12. Sorry Hijack. I don’t know why after setting up the CM prefs file the first time that the resolution initialization screen would come up again. I tried the procedure on my machine again and had no problem. I deleted the prefs file, set desk top to higher res., started CM, chose the higher resolution, quit, went back and reset my desktop. Worked like a champ. I’m not a computer type Guru but I figured I’d respond again to you and put you back at the top of the list and hopefully somebody else can explain this phenomena. Good Luck!
  13. For the price of a round trip ticket to the Land Down Under I’d be more than happy to hand carry it door to door for all you Aussies out there.
  14. What I did was set my desk top at 1280 x1024 (instead of the 1024x768 I usually run) then ran CM, went back to my desk top and reset it back to 1024x768. Now when I run CM it’s at the higher res than my desktop.
  15. Does anyone know if there is a standard time duration for smoke fired by: 1 - 60mm mortar 2 - a tank (Sherman) 3 - 81mm off board art. 4 - 105mm off board art. I know, and have heard all the arguments for squads not having smoke but it sure would be nice for engineers to be able to throw smoke at the embrasure of a pillbox before running up and throwing a satchel charge in it.
  16. Your always welcome at my house for some home cookin’ and all the brews you can drink .
  17. Above and beyond the call of duty, that’s what this game is….. How may years ago did I see this start with the thousands of ideas and suggestions and you seemed to fulfil them all. Steve and Charles you guys did a fantastic job.
  18. Sitting here at work all I can do is download to a zip disc and read the readme file and according to that: “We cannot specify the exact day……But it appears likely that somewhere around the first week of June is likely. The D-Day anniversary is approaching…..
  19. What’s a double blind match? Is it where both side have never seen the scenario.
  20. Was Johnny Cloud the American Indian P-51 pilot? I haven’t thought of that comic in, what, decades. I wonder if kids in other countries had their own Sgt. Rock comic books?
  21. As it turns out it was just the Riesburg AAR’s. I loaded Last Defense AAR’s and everything works fine. (except the defense in Last Defense )
  22. After the set-up phase and at the start of the turn 1, you find out the MG you thought you loaded on the tank is actually hanging out underneath it.
