Has anyone played the Steel Panthers Mega campaigns? They were very well done, but you had to pay extra for each one.

Your opinion about playing vs. AI

The TacAI is MIA. -
Getting into buildings with a Stryker platoon
Stryker replied to Aacooper's topic in CMSF Strategy and Tactics Forum
As has been mentioned the Dismount command is not always optimal. I've give the squad a Quick move command while the Stryker is still moving toward its objective. Just like CMx1 the infantry waits until the vehicle is stopped and then jump out and head toward the objective. A big help when playing RealTime so you don't have a vehicle waiting for you to issue orders to the passengers. -
Anyone else missing too much of the cool action during RealTime? I'd love to have a replay option over the last few minutes. I can't take the time to watch my guys from the "tab" view like I used to in CMx1 and still manage the battle effectively.

No major performance issues Vista32 Core 2 2.66GHz 2GB RAM 8800GTS 1920x1200 All settings maxed, except vsync which caused problems -
I've played 2 battles so far without issue (although the graphics are not good, and the shadows are horrible). I have Vista32 and nVidia 8800GTS. I had to run as administrator, if that helps.
-
On Vista32 I had to run as administrator, otherwise I would click on the icon and nothing happens. Maybe you are not admin on your XP?
-
I'm running 158.45 on Vista32, and will try this version first tomorrow. If it does not work, then I'll try the update.

Does anybody still have the pictures of when CMBO was still ASL? Computer Gaming World had an article and picture from the work in progress at the time, and that's what got me here originally.

Ouch. Tom Chick holds forth on CM:SF

I think he may be the "Bruce" in the "Tom vs. Bruce" articles in the Games for Windows mag. -

*Many* orders won't queue... what does that mean exactly. I hope queueing works at least as well as CMx1. -
If you are getting a new computer, get Vista. Existing system, don't get Vista. I purchased a desktop from Dell in Feb, right after the Vista launch. Popped in a new 8800GTS and only game not working is CMx1 which I always had problems with on certain nVidia drivers. Although if you're *only* getting a new computer to run CMSF, have some XP disks handy. My opinion anyway...

The Fog: ATI or NVidia? What works?
Stryker replied to Steiner14's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Well I've pre-ordered and I'm running Vista32 with an 8800GTS. Keeping my fingers crossed. I've had the computer since Feb and it runs "all" my games from older (Battles in Normandy, Steel Panthers, Civ3, Squad Battles: The Proud and the Few) to newer (Company of Heroes, Forge of Freedom, Oblivion) without any issues. Where possible I run at 1920x1200 with most features maxed. It's amazing. However, the only game I can't run is the CMx1 engine! I'd highly recommend the card, but I got mine with a new system. I think many of the reported problems with the 8800's are with overclocking, home built, and upgraded systems. -
Problems with 8800 GXT and Vista Ultimate 64
Stryker replied to jackle74's topic in Combat Mission - Tech Support
I'm getting the same exact problem with a 8800gts on Vista32. This is with the latest drivers, 158.18. -
Quick question. How come this is packaged as an EXE? Does it change any of the base CM files? Should I back anything up before installing?

Units and how they are controlled
Stryker replied to Battlefront.com's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Let's make sure not to over complicate things. Personally, I'm ok with abstractions if they make sense. Look at Steel Panthers (and ASL to a lesser degree) - still going strong. So far though, I like what I'm hearing. I trust you guys. -
To kick things off... a poll of sorts...

Interesting info. Not nitpicking, especially by people horribly impacted by communism. -
Looking forward to some beans & truth. I did like those images though. Sweet.

I wonder if the CM2 engine is going to look that good...

I also read it recently. A very good book, I highly recommend it. If you are interested Matrix Games has a new game out soon, Korsun Pocket.

CM and "The Forgotten Soldier"
Stryker replied to JeremyCupit's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I think Sajer's book is authentic. The Forgotten Soldier: Fact or Fiction -
I just finished the first battle in the Stalingrad Pack - Into the Void (great piece of work!), but ran into a little issue. I was on turn 36 of 40 when the AI surrendered to me. In a normal (non exit VP battle) I would have thought this made sense since I had decimated the AI's force. However, in this case, since I had not even exited a single unit, it seemed a little premature. At that point the AI was still way ahead of me in VP's. I would have probably still won if it went the full 40, but I don't know for sure. I'm wondering if for exit VP type battles the AI should never surrender if it's leading in VP's...
