  1. Having been a long time SL/ASL'er myself, I know if you like those games you'll love CM.
  2. Don't feel so bad. You've got a long way to go before you can beat my duration as a "Junior Member". I have to hold that record.
  3. I'm a long time SL/ASL player. If you like those games, I can't see any reason on earth why you would not like CM. However, I've found the turn around with PBEM way too slow to really get into, and because of my unreliable schedule have not done much TCP/IP. Bottom line though, CM is the best game out there.
  4. I would think, that since this a true 3D game, we should be able to set any angle/position for the camera. Why we are limited to a few 'preset' options has always been unclear to me.
  5. I think this is the Orignal: Wreck's Quick Battle Infantry Campaign Rules
  6. Biltong, Please shoot me a copy ( john_asl@yahoo.com ). If been waiting for something like this... [ November 05, 2002, 07:18 PM: Message edited by: Stryker ]
  7. I agree. I play a lot of 800pt QB's and let the AI pick both sides. I've never seen so many satchel charges and flamethrowers.
  8. It was the long one, I think campaign 1. I had developed a good day 1 opening move. I massed my troops in a relatively tight area and bulldozed my way into the city. You had to get a good foothold for day 2. One problem though was when my opponent landed his artillery and rolled 2 snakes in the FFE, took out 6 squads. I agree CM is a 'better' game, but it can't simulate the tension of rolling the dice and hoping for/against the snake-eyes.
  9. That's amazing that you mentioned Hill 621. That scenario was the first thing that popped into my mind when I heard the release date for the demo. Great scenario. Did anybody here ever complete an entire Red Barricades campaign? We got about half way through, which took about a year, before the Russian player surrender to me. Great fun, but what a time investment...
  10. I had problems with the 12.41 drivers for a TNT2 locking up my Win2k. Had to switch back to an earlier version...
  11. Greetings, Trying to get a clarification on how hiding works. This has happended to me 2 times and I'm wondering if it is my fault, a quirk with the beta, or just random chance. Situation: my 2 veteran squads hidden in woods, enemy squad ends turn about 20m away also in woods, nobody has started shooting yet. Next turn I order my 2 squad to target enemy, but do not issue unhide command. Next turn starts and the enemy squad proceeds to destroy first one squad then the next and neither of my squads ever fires. It looks like they might have been still trying to hide. Was it my mistake not to unhide before targeting? Or is this a beta quirk? Or just the hand of fate? Regards, Stryker www.pantherworks.com
  12. Berl, Thanks for the news! I've been waiting for the digital version of that movie since the days of Laserdisks.... Regards, Stryker www.pantherworks.com
  13. Hey I'd be happy with just some tweaks to the existing 3 scenarios. Maybe an extra Stug/Tiger/Sherman or move the victory locations. Anything please! Stop me, I'm about ready to buy CC4! Stryker www.pantherworks.com
  14. Josh, Great example from a great book! It's been years since I read it. I'm not exactly sure what the definition of fanatic really is, but those guys crossing the river were certainly heroic. Regards, Stryker
  15. I've thought about this subject for quite some time as well. My conclusion is that there is no 'right' answer to player ranking. I took the approach that *who* you beat is more important than by how much you beat them. The main reason for this was the win by surrender outcome. I couldn't figure out how best to point score it. Sometimes you surrender because you are really getting destroyed, other times it is near the end of the game and you are only losing by a small margin and you don't have enough left to change the outcome. Are all surrenders judged equally? The other potential issue is system performance. In my case after every completed game the program makes an *adjustment* to the score of everyone that ever played one of the players that just completed the game. This dynamic ranking takes into account how well your previous opponents preform after you have played them. I would have liked to have done more with the dynamic ranking, but the need to keep if fast limited my options. 16. I definitely plan on converting my NUMEROUS ASL scenarios. I will guess that the play-balancing will not be correct, but the thought of getting into the 3d view in some of my favorite scenarios is too much to resist. Regards, Stryker www.pantherworks.com
  17. Hey Guys, Sorry that some of you are still having issues with my site. I tried to make the site completely browser and OS neutral, but am still having problems. I have recently changed the interface, but will now focus exclusively on fixing the Mac/Netscape issues. Feel free to send me comments! Regards, Stryker www.pantherworks.com [This message has been edited by Stryker (edited 01-31-2000).]
  18. Hey WWIIRulz, Looks good for a start. You can include my 'Combat Mission' web site in your links section if you want: www.pantherworks.com Regards, Stryker [This message has been edited by Stryker (edited 01-19-2000).]
  19. Steve, Thanks for the reply. Sounds like you thought through the handicapping feature pretty well. The AI is good even in the demo (especially compared to other games), but I doubt it can ever be made to compete on an even basis with a person. I think the handicapping feature will really help make playing against the AI that much more competitive and enjoyable. Regards, Styker
  20. I read in one of the posts that there will be a scenario handicapping feature in the final release and that it will consist of a +/- adjustment to unit numbers(no new units types). This sounds like a great feature, especially for replaying a scenario against the AI. But how does it work? Do you know or can you specify what the handicap is? Is it random? All of the above!? Regards, Stryker
  21. Yes, there is a problem with the database. It is back up as of 10:00pm Central time, but I have yet to track down exactly why it is locking up (locks on a MAC or a PC). For now I am stuck using Microsoft Access as my database (I really didn't want to, trust me!) so for now I am pointing my finger at Microsoft... Regards, Stryker www.pantherworks.com
  22. Gunnerdream, You can modify your profile a couple of different ways. After registering when you go to www.pantherworks.com you should get a home page with a section that displays your win/loss record with a small link call My Profile right above that section. Click on this link to go to the page where you can edit and save your profile. Alternatively, you can click on the Player List link in the left frame menu, then in the list of players click on your name to get to your profile. Hope this helps! Regards, Stryker
  23. Greetings! A new site is available to help track PBEM opponents as well as player ranking and scenario win/loss statistics. It only begins to scratch the surface for you statistics junkies, but it should give you an idea of what is possible. Check it out at www.pantherworks.com Regards, Stryker
  24. My *initial* thought for a ranking system goes something like this: 1) 10pts for a win 2) -4pts for a loss 3) 1pt for every win more than losses on opponents you have defeated (no negatives) 4) Ties do nothing 5) Games against the CPU are not counted 6) Level of victory does not matter? example: Your record is 2-1, the opponents you have defeated are 5-1 and 2-5. Your point total is 20pts. This 'formula' does a couple of things. It rewards the player who plays more - I think inherently the more you play the better you get. It gives you more points for defeating good players. It is dynamic - your point total can change as your previous opponents win/lose. It encourages playing different opponets - if you keep beating the same person you will get less points as their win/loss record gets worse. And finally, it does not really hurt someone with a good record from playing someone with a bad record. Also, the site uses all Active Server Pages (ASP). This will allow each player to update their info, start games, end games, etc.., without my involvement. The HTML oriented sites for CM are already out there and do an excellent good job of housing various CM content. I have no desire to replace those functions. This will not be a commercial site, I am only doing this because I enjoy the game. Regards, Stryker
