  1. Who has the Highest 'Lurker factor'? Lurker factor = 10000/ (# of posts * member number) To be elegible for this award your date of registration must be no later than 31-12-2000. The first nominee is Boeman, #1845, who just made his fifth post. His Lurker factor would be 10000/(5*1845) = 1.084. Can you do better?
  2. The CM Borg. The aspects of Croda, inner and outer. The everlasting Peng thread. Hi mom. Fix it or do somefink. These are all good things. I'm very much in favour of all of them. If you don't find these things amusing, then please just accept them as the "personality traits" of our community.
  3. The measuring of members is a time-honered bonding experience between men. This is most commonly done between those who have a 'Junior Member' attached to them, but among those with a full 'Member' a somewhat more discreet observation method is often employed.
  4. 1: The differing muzzle velocities and ballistic properties of the various rounds would make this a less than stellar idea. 2: That would be the same as yelling "Here I am!" in a game of hide and seek. Once battle is joined this would of course not be a factor. I'm not sure about this (please correct me if I'm wrong) but someone told me that in dog-fights between WWII fighters, tracers were included for only an experimental period of time, because they reduced the eficiency of the firing airplane by letting the target know he was under fire. This was probably not an issue for planes that mainly conducted air-to-ground attacks.
  5. Ok. For all the new guys, esp. novApulse and abuhabib, let me (again) state this very clearly: The AI doesn't cheat. It plays by the same rules as you do. When bad stuff happens to you, it is not because the AI has any undocumented advantage. Get back to the drawing board and try to do things another way. With some practice, you'll be able to kick the AI's butt, but you'll have some learning to do first. Heed the advice others have given you. Recon before you expose your vehicles. Almost never button up your tanks, let them do that themselves. Assume that every treeline is enemy occupied until proven otherwise. Sten
  6. CM is now 16!! Please vote. Let's see if we can push it up into the top ten. Sten
  7. Hey, Chrisl, I'm also a physician! Sten
  8. Don't dismiss the option of blowing away the house Sherman #2 is hiding behind. That is being proactive rather than being reactive and wait for it to appear again. His arty might be on the way as we speak... If it's a light building it shouldn't take more than, say, 3 shots. And hopefully some inf units are hiding in there as well. (An FO, maybe?) Sten
  9. Yes, the same scenarios are available in the full game. But don't you think the instant gratification of first reading The Commisars article, and thinking "What an idiot! I would never have done THAT!" and then immediately download the demo and try out your own ideas, has a huge value? Sten
  10. Yes, one of the demo battles would be best. Closing words of the article would be "....think you can do better? Download the demo with this scenario and two more from www.battlefront.com Sten [This message has been edited by Sten (edited 04-05-2001).]
  11. It is also possible that the tank was considered "cresting". Since you created a very steep slope, you would of course see the front of the tank while the tank was still climbing up said slope. During that time it would be reasonable to consider it "hull down" since only part of the tank was visible. If the picture was taken immediately after the tank switched from going up the hill to going down the hill, towards your 'schreck it is possible that the "hull down" status had not yet changed. That should change within a few tenths of a second. Take a look at the movie again. Does it change? Sten
  12. CM is listed as "Smash hit of the week"! Maybe there is justice in the world after all.. Sten
  13. Ok we're all family'n stuff here, but does this question really belong on a public web forum?? Sten
  14. This matter is being looked into. If and when this makes it remains to be seen, but we are discussing it. Sten
  15. Why lock it? Can't we transport it directly to the cesspool? Sorry to make fun of your loss Jeff, but the connection was just too good not to mention. Sten
  16. Gyrene, I hear you, and I know most gamers don't have a clue that CM even exists. But if you write monthly column on strategy games on a public gaming site you really ought to know better, don't you agree? Sten
  17. I mailed my thoughts (incl vitriol) to Daily Radar's PC section. But I haven't received any reply yet. Anyone else having better luck than me? Sten
  18. I don't really understand what you mean? I'm an experienced player and I use the 'Pause' command often. Draw fire with one unit and advance your tank over that ridge when the enemy is turned toward that first unit you sent. Great for creating flank shots. Or use it to frogleap with infantry, keeping some squads on the move and others in covering position, laying fire. IMHO, the game would be much less flexible without it. Sten
  19. Rob/1, thanks for a nice-looking mod. The tiger pic is awesome, but IMHO, the pics on the buttons could be somewhat clearer and maybe a bit more intuitive. Using close-ups of units for most buttons is a bit confusing. 'Load' and 'Save' could very well be done with some disk-like image, for example, and 'Tournament save' could have a pic of two opposed squads firing at each other from close range. See what I mean? Maximus.... no, I won't even go there. Sten
  20. It only goes to show how much some of the columnists actually know about the topic they are writing about. I'll drop him a line as well. Sten
