  1. He'd be awfully easy to track too, even if he's only driving on paved roads. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  2. (Milt, could you please send me an email? I got some questions for you.) Toni and Milt, This is not an omission on BTS' part, but a concious design decision. Follow KiwiJoes suggestion and search for it if you want all the details, but there wer mainly two reasons, IIRC. 1. CM depicts battles over maximum a few days. This is not enough to increase the experience for any unit. 2. Very few soldiers actually participated in several major battles while still in the same organizational unit. Therefore it makes more sense to have the exp-level set from the start. This is all from memory so I may have forgotten some details, but IIRC, those were the major points. 3. LOL! IntelWeenie, you made me laugh so hard my girlfriend had to come over and what was so funny. Naturally, she didn't get it, so she gave me the what-was-I-smoking-when-I-decided-to-live-with-you looks. This is all your fault. Thanks, Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  4. Buzzer, your copy is in the mail, for sure. It takes about two weeks to Norway, but some people have had trouble with packages getting stuck in customs. But don't worry about the first print sell-out. That was some weeks ago. If you had any specific questions regarding patches, feel free to ask. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  5. Heh. When I'm out jogging, I see the Fast-lines in front of me and small pyramids where I ought to turn. When I reach that rocky patch where I usually walk/climb, naturally the line changes to the Move color. Can I admit myself for counseling by myself? Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  6. Interesting. If you can reproduce it, please send me the file with the passwords and a description exactly how you got this result. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  7. This thread is getting ridiculous. Show some maturity, and just stop arguing. Talenn and others have made some good points. People who are just recent acquaintances on this forum should be met with the same respect as anyone else. They also deserve answers to their questions, but that does mot mean that the more knowledgeable among us should spend hours and hours answering questions that really HAVE been answered before. In such cases a polite and respectful reference to the search function is a totally acceptable answer. Does this sound reasonable to you? Is this even something that (fingers crossed) we could *agree* upon?? Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  8. Danielh, very interesting data! Thank you very much. This kind of test has been done before, but not recently. I'll discuss this with Charles when he comes back and we'll see if he thinks anything should be changed. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  9. No, we can't. Even if that feature was still in any of the latest beta versions we'd still need your password. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  10. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by danielh: Just a tiny little question how can i figure out what version of CM i have on my drive (Official CD-Release)? To the Halftrack thing: Of course an oversized Rifle with AP or a thrown handgrenade or riflegrenade killed a halftrack, but NOT a 7.9 mm MG from around 400 - 200 m, as was the case with my Tigers against american halftracks. I was keen to wreck them to havoc but not by MG-Fire of course ! The M5 killing the Jagdpanther, good hunting tactics must be awarded !! Greets Daniel<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Look in the bottom right corner of the main screen. The version number is there. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  11. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Jarmo: <snip> Limited use because they were not practical, I can understand. But are they too good in CM then?<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> Do you still think they are too good? I think they're pretty realistic. Good, if you can get the enemy to come to you, fragile as h*ll, while on the move. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  12. The best one yet has to be the thread in the CM - Tech support forum called "BIZARRE bug seen - Armored "Clown Car" . Go there and read it, it's hilarious. The bug it mentions is fixed, BTW. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  13. Jeff, LOL, but wouldn't that be grounds for summary execution? Sten
  14. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR> I ahve read the manual, and I found the information in there to be a little unclear, hence the question. AS far as hiding the truth, I certianly think that is being over-stated. BTS *has* stated that they intentionally did not include some information as a design decision. So my question was: 1. What exactly does it mean for a unit to be some percent exposed as far as how it effects my firepower, or 2. Is this something that is *meant* to be unknown, or vague? The only hostility in that entire thread was what Fionn pointed at me. Period. It was unwarranted, unecessary, and a waste of everyones time, including Fionn's. Jeff Heidman<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> I am certain that if your original question had been in the same nice, calm, factual tone as this one, you would have gotten the nice, calm, factual answers you were looking for. As to your questions, 1.From the manual, "exposure (infantry/non-armored vehicles)" means "a percentage value, stating how much f the target is vulnerable based on an abstract maximum (100%)". This means that if your target is 50% exposed, it will recieve half of the firepower you're directing at it. 2. No. Not this or anything else. (Specific code deemed vital to the copyright aside) If Steve or Charles were not busy as h*ll, they could give you an even better answer. If this is still unclear to you, I suggest you wait two weeks, until the initial rush of orders is over, and both S and C is back at work. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  15. AFAIK, the QB generator does not take historical exactness into the equation at all. It just purchases whatever is available at the date you chose, with an attempt of maximixing the utilization of points. I'm not 100% sure about this. Someone will surely correct me if I am wrong. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  16. ASL Veteran, your point is a valid one. Newcomers shouldn't feel "dissed" and all of us have to be careful with how we express ourselves. I have on numerous occasions asked people to use the search function. I don't think this is a worthless answer at all. I am telling the person who asked that I KNOW the truth is out there. (Dana? Fox!) The person who asked the question now knows that there is a point in searching, something he didn't know before. If someone searches and takes part of what have been said but STILL feels that something needs to be changed, then he'd be more than welcome. The game got to be what it is today by people doing just that. Jeff, if you read some of the posts that replied to your question in that thread (no. 4 and 5, for example) there were some good answers there. Someone even quoted the manual for you. It also contained a good answer to your question. You might also want to be a little more careful when you "poke a tiny amount of fun" at something. Being accused of conciously hiding the truth CAN be interpreted as something other than fun. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll. 17. I just checked my CM mail folder. I became a beta tester on the 4th of November -99 (second wave). The folder now contains 4003 posts. This is only the beta list, I'm not counting private email conversations with other testers. I just want to reinforce what Los said above. The issues that crop up here have often already been discussed on the beta list. And if they haven't you can rest assured that they will immediately be picked up by someone. 18. Ronf, this question has been answered many, many times. The answer is no, but BTS is aware that this is a much wanted feature, even more so if we could save all the files together for one long 30-minute movie. Almost every question imaginable have been asked somewhere over the last 76000 posts. Please use the search-function before you ask, ok? Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  19. PraetorianXXI, Steve closed the last thread where this topic had turned into something of a flamewar. Do you have a problem with what the closing of a thread implicates? If so, let me spell it out to you. It means: Drop the f*cking subject! If you wish to bring the subject up again, do two things. 1. Use email to discuss the topic in private with whomever disagrees with you. Resolve you differences, read each others references, etc, etc. 2. When you chose to post publically, refrain from using references to past flamewars, lest it all start anew. Let bygones be bygones. There. As to your closing question, skins and .bmp does not accompany the scenario itself. If you and I downloaded the same scenario, it would look different on our computers if we were using different mods. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  20. Henri, the pause command is for movement only. It does not make a unit hold its fire. Mark IV, the area target problem is fixed in v1.03. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  21. Danielh, please use the search function. Most of the guys here have, much as you do, a very good knowledge of WWII, and we have had these discussions for almost two years. All the issues you mention have been covered again and again. They are good points and the answer is somewhere among the 75000 posts about CM. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll. [This message has been edited by Sten (edited 07-18-2000).]
  22. It is a bug. Squashed in v1.03 Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  23. SK Fish, No. The pause command is for movement only. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  24. Jeremy, it uses the escaping gases from the barrel to brake the recoil of the gun. It is the wider, slightly angular thing at the end of the barrel. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
  25. PeterNZ, your opinion of Swedish politicians is waaay too good. Not that the Swedish politicians themselves wouldn't agree, mind you. Sten ------------------ Keep your whisky on the rocks and your tanks on the roll.
