  1. i wasn't joking.. thinking that the Germans had the scientists.. but your facts have proven me wrong, well at least enlightened me thanks ~
  2. your question of 4 Strategic "Operations" is somewhat misleading - as the 3 levels of conflict are commonly referred to. i took Anzio and MC as "operational"... were there even 4 'strategic' levels for the US? Pacific theater, European, the Air war i guess could be called separately... what am i missing?
  3. yes, you can assume i know and no.. not Kettler (should i know him?)
  4. i don't think Anzio could be considered a victory.. or the battle for Monte Casino.. tho not losses, but i think it could have been handled better.. Nukes? the German's would have had them 1st.. are you sure you want to go there?
  5. i think this has been addressed in another thread. They WILL release a list of improvements - prior to the release of the patch.
  6. as A co said... CMx1 is a game... CMx2 is a simulation. in the CMx1 games, even putting aside the simplification of 'game/sim', you had some things like 'next target' command, in which all you had to do was click on your unit and it would show you what it could see/shoot. CMx2 doesn't have that - YOU have to decide the best target- and if your unit doesn't have spotting, your unit won't even SEE the target! CMx1 has a feeling of being at a higher command level.. Regimental at least. CMx2 you feel more like a Company Commander.. or Platoon leader, or squad leader (all said above, just paraphrasing) the thing is that feeling can change - in your gut- as you watch the action unfold, or issue orders... sure you still have to go unit to unit to give orders/move etc... but as you do, the association WITH that level of unit, just melds into your subconscious. CMx1 i would often issue orders and had no empathy for the units i was sending into a dangerous (stupid) area... it didn't matter - TO ME... CMx2 it matters.. i FEEL it. i associate with the men (all 12 in the US squad) - would i do this if I was the Sq leader? HOW would i do this if i was the Platoon Lt? now.. add to that the way the terrain has been remodeled. it feels right. CMx1 there were a lot of 'edges'.. tops of ridges, small knolls, etc... CMx2, it is rolling terrain - it looks real, it feels real. did i mention it FEELS? that's the difference to me. immersion - Main Entry: absorption Part of Speech: noun Definition: total attention toward something Synonyms: captivation, concentration, engagement, engrossment, enthrallment, fascination, hang-up, holding, immersion, intentness, involvement, occupation, preoccupation and i don't even work for Battlefront!! i've been gaming since the early 70's.. did the board games, miniatures, sand table. wrote my own rules - researched everything i could get my hands on...then put it all away as opponents faded.. along comes CMx2 and its back -and better than anything i've played.
  7. bought CMBO.. wow.. bought CMBB.. Man! what an improvement, wish they apply all improvements to CMBO bought CMAK.. oh, geez this is outstanding and how can i go back to CMBO - ever? (Didn't) bought CMBN.. are you kidding? this is 100x's better than any of the CMx1 series! even before CW, patches, or add-on's. how so? i've deleted the CMx1's - and wonder what should i do with the originals? i'll never use them again ~ how's that for an answer?
  8. thanks AKD.... not really what i wanted to hear, but kinda what i thought so - is there any way to blow up a bridge?
  9. i'm about to try to "Blast" while crawling under a Panther... i'll let you know also... can you blast a bridge? how can a bridge be destroyed? only by arty?
  10. couldn't agree more Steve - well stated.
  11. probably my imagination.. but the field of tall grass, looks.. well, taller - waist high? i don't know if i've noticed that before...
  12. i see it as a positive announcement~! and here's why.... speaking for myself of course, i imagine that Battlefront consists of a small group of like-minded gamers and that we in the CMBN room have been thinking that a 2 to 4 week time frame till release meant that this BF Group was diligently working away, burning the midnite oil, toiling to get CMBN out... when in all likelyhood and fairness, this small group, new that SCww1 was being worked on, and about how long it would take them to wrap it up - and THEN begin the work on CMBN - so? that patch now finished allows the team to focus on what we've been waiting for to me, that's a YAY! - and additionally, that the weeks remaining means its already 'almost' ready - well to me
  13. i'll say 3 weeks.. that way, i'm not disappointed if it is..and thrilled if i'm wrong however, CM's history/reputation has been in the window they share - so at most 2 - but i've still got a lot of learning/playing with CM as it is! so i'm not in a rush... well, unless the patch will also address some (all?... ok, some) of the issues that have been described here on the forum
  14. i have enough trouble keeping a squad alive while advancing.. can't imagine the inner turmoil of commanding a Regmt or more ~
  15. i just upgraded to an Nvidea GT430 sys is 6 years of age. i was getting these bat-wingers, at certain distances, AFTER i had modified some of my display settings. just mess about with those 'fast-faster' settings, they did help and i've not seen them since i tweaked the options!
  16. to be clear.. the turn start with him alone, showing 1 rocket. isolated. his team was further back. after his shot, on rising up, his total immediately jumped to 6... then on his non-stop trip downhill, the total again changed in the same turn, to 2..3.. back to 2 up to 6, back to 5, then 4... at no time did the man stop, or pass near any fallen comrades, or pass a jeep.
  17. i have a US zook, downslope of Pz V... can't see.. checking his rounds, i see he's got 1 rocket left. fair enough he's the last man of his team. he knows what he has to do.. that Panther has a clean LOS to the valley below that is currently filled with GI's and no armor.... crawling about 10 meters uphill he finally gets a view of his target. slowly and carefully he loads his Tank killer, and hoping this round is true... controlling his shakes, he take aim and fires! ....a hit! but without visible damage and now he notes some grey clad infantry coming from the woods beyond the Panther, and obviously in support.. so having 'givin it his best shot' he rises with his (now 6 rounds of Zook ammo) and begins to scamper downslope... as he is clear of drawing fire he looks again, but see's he really only has 4 rockets in the carrying case (huh?) well maybe i miscounted twice before.. but finally goes to ground to count and be sure before deciding to crawl back up for a 2d shot and find he has zero left so? what do you think? 1 round? 6? or 4? .. mystery to me ~ all that in one turn..and i kept the man highlighted so i could be sure i wasn't seeing things. he didn't stop to acquire any additional rounds from his squad, in fact he didn't stop running till the turn ended. should i go back up the hill? or should i take a course in accounting?
  18. thanks Wreck... but staying with the Indirect question... if the unit observing can see the target....and is in radio contact with the indirect unit, why when attempting to call in indirect does the target now not have a LOS to the unit that CAN spot it to fire directly? apologies for being dense if its obvious... please try again
  19. agree agree agree~! the only way to prevent that is having 1 source, and a patch that all install. once things are 'open' you have all different versions, and none compatible.
  20. didn't want to start a whole NEW thread, and it's probably been mentioned before, but- i'm towing an ATG with truck... now where to set it up for maximum use? well, unless i have another unit somewhere in the vicinity, or, actually set the gun up - i can't TELL! there is no feature to simply "VIEW" - of course trucks can't use "target light" to test, ok.. and the crew is in a covered back end, but shouldn't someone be able to have an idea that "yeah, HERE, this is a good spot" ?? am i wrong? 2) i have a mortar setup, and in comm with Plt HQ/radio. the Plt HQ can see the target..and am using small arms on the target... but when i attempt to call for indirect, i get a "No LOS" message!? why? 3) why when an 81mm is down to 1 smoke round won't it fire? or if its because its a smoke round, why not allow the call for a smoke round? i have more questions...but i don't want to kidnap the thread and maybe this isn't the place to ask? feel free to move it if so required. thanks!
  21. add to that.. maybe trite, but to fire smoke from a AFV, i'd like to be able to ration my limited available rounds of smoke... have a popup after selecting "Smoke" to say: A)continuous 1 round C) 2-3 rounds D) 4-6 etc -
  22. has anyone ever discussed why the elimination of building 'types' was dropped. by types i mean in CM1 they would be identified as light or heavy construction. with the associated protection from fire, and amount of HE required to destroy the different types. maybe it is supposed to be apparent in the graphic? or maybe its been dropped because there really wouldn't be too much difference in damage accumulation? but with the discussion of Inf in buildings being more susceptible unless they are hiding, i think being in a Stone building taking small arms fire would address some of the concerns. yes?
  23. this of course gave rise to the original term "back seat driver" ~
  24. i'm interested.. but no where near your output of 3-4 turns per day. i'm definite for 1 a day, maybe more, but wouldn't want to commit for more. so if you're still looking and 1 a day is ok, i'm in... i'll play either side, any range of scenario, but please stay away from 'city' landscapes... that's too much for my PC - you choose the rest~ now what?
