  1. There already have been lots of posts about this, mainly in the Maps and Mods section of the forum. But in addition to what Pete Wenman has already posted here are two other good sources: Topo Maps on Kaarten Aerial photos of some areas of Market Garden
  2. The maps are beautiful, very good job. I can't wait to get some play time on the scenarios and campaigns that come from them.
  3. Dashing and still screen shots don't really go that well together.
  4. OK, you were not talking about the in game sounds, but the sound of the guns "in real life", which to me are very different mainly because of rate of fire. I didn't realize that CMBN used a single shot sound bytes for automatic weapons and then just adjusts the rate of fire. I think that's fine so long as the shots sound similar like you said.
  5. Yea, I have to agree. There were many contributing factors that led to the failure of the operation but one of the main points that not too many people talk about is the fact that the entire operation started in the afternoon of the 17th. Why this time of day was chosen I have no clue but I've been thinking what could have been possible the first day IF the airborne and ground units started earlier, say around 8 am: 1. Historically, XXX Corps stopped at Valkensward because of nightfall. If the operation started at 8 am they could have easily reached Eindhoven and possibly Son by dark. Even with the Son bridge still blown they could have at least had some of the Bailey bridge under construction by the am on the 18th. 2. Allies Controlled the day sky and were able to hamper German movement during the day, especially the first day. However, the late start allowed Germans to freely move at night only a few hours after the operation started. If the operation starts at 8 am then the reinforcing Germans are seriously hampered by air units for at least 11 or 12 hours.
  6. From everything I've gathered it really seems like the battles included will only be Market Garden related. Of course, anyone can make a new scenario depicting any battle. The only problem is that they're only giving us September in the editor so you'd be limited time wise. Equipment that fought elsewhere is largely not included (M36, Hetzer, etc..) although the M18 will be in there.
  7. Look at it from the big picture. There were two basic choices: 1. Launch offensives through the Sigfried Line AND then an amphibious assault across the Rhine, both of which would sustain horrible losses. OR 2. Circumvent both with the Market Garden plan. I can certainly see the temptation for #2.
  8. Oddball, there's a very distinctive difference between the M3 and Thompson. The tone is slightly different but the main difference is the rate of fire.
  9. IIRC, Pegasus Bridge closely resembles this one:
  10. Those were still photos, iirc, not film. I think it was the fault of the eager and excited developers that accidentally exposed the negatives to light before they were developed.
  11. There are tons of raw footage that we never see. It's all heavily edited in documentaries, sound added in etc.. D-Day is a perfect example. We always see the same few clips over and over again but obviously there are a lot more to those original films. I'm not sure why they never show the whole film in raw form.
  12. Then why didn't the British tanks get the same reputation? Actually, it's pretty well documented that Shermans did tend to brew up easier than other tanks, partly because the ammo was located in vulnerable spot. Even when the ammo wasn't hit directly, an internal penetration might cause shrapnel that would set them off. This led to the development of the wet stowage.
  13. He's from NY, they usually go under rivers to get to Manhattan.
  14. Yes, and I believe patches will upgrade older CW, CMBN, CMFI etc... that do not buy the CMMG.
  15. It's quite possible the new ditchlock feature will help with creating a terraced effect. According to JonS:
  16. I see the BAR a versatile weapon. It provides an elevated firepower than your rifle but is just as accurate in most cases. It's got range and mobility. It does all of these things reasonably well but does not master any of them. It's become my favorite weapon in Rising Storm because I can alter my tactics based on the situation. If I find myself in long range situations, I can switch to the low rpm mode to so I don't have to constantly reload and it lets me squeeze off accurate 1 round shots for sniping. In close quarters I can keep it in normal firing mode to ensure the rounds hit moving targets. In both modes I can provide effective covering fire. It's least desirable indoors because of it's size but I can make due with that.
  17. Wow, with this you could move to a "Free to Play" model. We'd never have to pay for a base game or module again!!! What? you want to play CM with ammo and fuel? then pony up!
  18. LOL! This reminds of the scene in Monty Python's "Life of Brian": 'OK, OK, besides the roads, sewer system, schools, and aqueducts, what have Romans ever done for us!" Honestly, there's more packed into this Market Garden Module than the CW module which only had new units, formations, scenarios and campaigns. With Market Garden you get all of that plus the 7 master maps, plus new buildings and bridges, plus new editor features such as the ditchlock. And before you go complaining that there aren't that many new units, please realize that the majority of units were already in the CW module - there aren't that many more units for BF to make - at least for the time frame involved. They've certainly included more than I thought they would have. If you don't want to buy OMG then don't. I didn't buy CMFI because only I knew I wouldn't have time to play it, not because I didn't feel it was worth the money. So please don't complain that OMG isn't worth $35 because, it is. They've packed way more into it than I though they would.
  19. There is a new ditchlock elevation feature for map designers allowing them to better represent ditches. JonS mentions it in his scenario design posts. I'm not really sure how the AI will behave with the ditches - hopefully soldiers will get into the ditch if within the 'action' square.
  20. Between this, ARMA III, and Rising Storm I'm really going to miss my girlfriend.
