funny thing is i used every single vehicle at least once during the long, long, long time i played the game... simply because i like to try on a varied force, so instead of picking force A (consisting of a platton of tigers and 2 platoons of panthers) each time id pick force F3 (one jagdpanther and 4 panzer IVs of varied models) or force G6 (only light tanks and tank destroyers)

whats interesting and whats not is a purely subjective thing...

if the CMx2 Normandy (working name?) only includes say panthers, tigers and panzer 4's on the german side and only Shermans on the US side i probarbly wouldnt buy the game since id be bored within a month (and i know thats the "standard" in the gaming industry, but im not a 15 year old pimplyfaced boy with twiching thumbs, i am a 31 year old man who likes to take his time and enjoy things in life).

besides... like steve said... most of the vehicles in CMBO were variations of the same model... and since the US side didnt exactly use a varied force when it came to armor (2 different stuart chassis, 1 sherman chassy and 1 grant/lee chassy is all they need as a base for the variants right?) alot can be done with a few basic models...

    lets make a (short?) list:

    panzer II (lynxs?)

    panzer III

    panzer IV

    panzer V

    panzer VI

    panzer VIB

all the other types of armor can be based on these chassis with little to medium work (depending on the vehicle... stugs might take the most time i guess)

on the US side we have it even easier:

    Stuart early

    Stuart late

    Sherman

Lee/grant (were they even used in normandy?)

thats, what, ten tank base models? add to that about the same in halftracks and vehicles and well probarbly be fine...

but what im worried about is that BFC will stick to only the panther, tiger and panzer 4 line... and trimming out any "minority" armor or vehicles...

i mean... the infantry comes down to 1 human body model with different skins and different weapons... so we all know that the infantry will be nicely represented (right?)

thats why im focusing on the armor...

PS. i know this comes off as "whining" and such, but it really isnt... its just a statement of fact... and i think alot of the other "whiners" feel the same... the only reason we are "whining" is because we want to buy the game... but we wont if you strip it down to the bare essentials...

  2. just to weigh in my oppinion here (wich is pretty lightweight i know) i have to say that on the matter of subject interest i have absolutely no bias... i love russian stuff and thats about it... thats why i play more CMBB than CMAK for example (but i still, to this day, play both) and thats also why i was really looking forward to CMSF ("despite" it being a modern setting)

however... i stopped playing CMSF after about a month or so... played a little again after 1.05 (i think) but lost interest pretty fast again...

so its really not about the fact that its not WWII or that its with the wrong kind of countries represented... i love everything russian-made when it comes to warfare...

no i just lost interest because the game felt so thin and thats not a good thing...

recently, i played a hotseat battle with my friend in CMBB where i actually bought a jagdtiger just for the fun of it... and he spent the entire battle trying to outmanouver that beast (and finally did)...

we both agree that that was one of the best battles we've ever had..

but if CMBB came out today on the CMx2 engine that battle would never happen because the Jagdtiger was "not common enough in combat to be included"

now that is exactly what i have a problem with here... dont cut out the rare stuff just cos its not in every battle... instead put it in there just to get that one in a million battle that is so much fun to play.

  3. ok, just to make it clear... i didnt ask for CMBO mk II in a box... what i aksed for was more variety in each game...

so if you make CMBO for CMx2 you dont just put the omaha beach troops in the starter box... at least put all the american units in and most of the germans... then you can always add other COUNTRIES (and not just other branches of the same military)

thats what im whining (yes.. whining) about...

not the fact that there will be modules... im all for modules... as long as they dont drown out the game so to speak... make a good solid game with a good solid troop base (ie. the entire american military precense at normandy) since thats where the money is... not in modules (battlefront already stated that they dont expect all their costumers to buy the modules)

as for it being too much work... well i know a few talented guys around here that probarbly woulnt mind working for peanuts (they do, after all, get payed nothing for their mods)

  4. whilst i understand that the TOE is more limited in a modern army i still feel that CMSF is severely nerfed when it comes to troop and vehicle variety compared to the first combat mission games...

and the fact that the marines arent available until they get their own module makes me even more worried... i see a pattern developing here... first comes the normandy game with only the troops from omaha and utah beach... then we get an expansion with the airborne units and after that the brittish... all of wich we have to pay more for...

this is something that saddens me greatly since the variety was one of the main things that attracted me to the CM series to start with...

the fact that you could create almost any "what if" scenario and still have the right troops for it...

with CMSF you dont even have the different branches of the same countrys military... you have to wait for an expansion to get the marines...

    not good.

i sincerely hope that this doesnt carry over to the next WWII incarnation of this game.

so now that the engine is built and all, i hope we will see massive improvements in the troop and equipment variations.

  5. well... ive never fired an mg off a tank (or an mg at all really) but when playing WWII online i get the distinct impression that its like shooting an mg with a scope, but the "mounting" doesnt increase the accuracy by much since the muzzle flash kinda blinds you... so whilst short bursts are very accurate, sustained fire isnt...

but thats just off a game, so it might not be valid at all hehe...
