  1. just put together a little soundmod for myself, but i thought i might release it if there was any interest...

its by no means a "realism" mod... its just a bunch of replacementsounds for the guns in the game... most are "kinda close" to what i think the guns sound like (from watching recordings of people shooting them at ranges or in combat) but its mostly just to get a bit more "oompf" in the sounds of the game...

so far ive replaced all the small arms, cannons and all explosions but one...

most of the cannon sounds are from my old combat mission mods and all the explosions are from those mods too...

speaking of wich... i need a good sound for the bradley, Mk19, AGS-17 and GP-30... but they have to fit in to the other sounds of the mod... so i guess that might have to wait until (if) the mod is released... ill have to keep looking myself until then...

PS. reading through the mod tools readme, i noticed that MadMatt had made extensive sound changes to his game... why not release that as a mod Matt?

  2. yay! that means i just have to get the game in some underhanded way (since i cant really afford it, ill probarbly buy it, install it, extract the sounds, uninstall it and then return it to the store for my money back) and i can start modding the sounds... yaaay...

(if youre wondering why i cant afford it, its cos im out of work, got no income, used up all my saved up money and now ive applied for social services financial support... but wont get it for a while)

  3. yup... my buddy once started his turn by saying "oh, i see you killed my tank"

this was because in his replay phase (wich he started with, before he could give orders) all ground damage was already done.. and since i had blown up his tank with an aircraft bomb there was a substantial crater under his tank...

so he wasnt really surprised when the impact finally came...

  4. ok, so ive made a few soundmods for the older combat mission games, and im eagerly awaiting the possibility to do so here.

however... my soundlibrary has been severely downgraded since my last mod since ive re-formatted my computer a couple of times without the ability to make backups... so im gonna need more sounds (this is where u guys come in... kinda)

what kind of sounds would you guys like for CMSF?

ultra-realistic? cinematic? or just plain balanced (wich is what i call my old soundmods)

by balanced i mean that the sound of a weapon easily distinguishes it from other weapons without it sounding "off" by any means... and its also (IMHO) easier to define the type of weapon used by the pure sound of it.

EDIT: just to make things clear here, i have no means of making my own sounds, so what i do is scavange other soundmods (wich to about 85% also consists of scavanged sounds) and use them in my mod... this time, however, i will try to keep track of whos work im using (if original) and credit them in the readme files.

oh and one more thing... ive developed a taste for echos so i will probarbly have quite "echoy" sounds...

  5. with the ammount of complaining ive done lately, i thought id announce two little gems i found with this game lately...

first off, the fact that if you use area target with an airstrike, they actually find their own target (even tho they sometimes hit already dead targets, or your own troops... or even imaginary targets sometime) wich is exactly what i wanted in close air support (especially since you cant seem to target infantry directly, its a great thing that they do seem to target them when using area target)

secondly, my friend reported that one of his casualties actually was healed when someone did that "medic" thing on them

so i guess its not completely useless to let your men do that :D

  6. well, i have some good news boys and girls.

dont know if this is common knowledge, but if you use area target with air-support they pick their own targets within that area... basically they work like they did in old combatmission

oh, but make sure none of your own troops are in that same area.. cos like i said, they work like they did in old combat mission, wich means lots of friendly fire (not too unrealistic mind you)

what? o sorry there thewood... i was just commenting on georges comment... for obvious reasons

i would, however, not be in this post at all if i wasnt interested in the answer just like you.

so whilst it may seem i dont care, in fact i do care more than you'd think

    ok, that sounded mushy... nevermind
