1.
quote:
Originally posted by Spook: Well, Steve, I am going to re-open the bunker "can of worms" just a little bit with this note. I would like it to be considered SOMEDAY that knocked-out bunkers and pillboxes MIGHT be re-manned by a friendly footbound weapons team. Yeah, I know this would be a programming morass: Which teams could get in? Could mortars be used from a knocked-out bunker? What would be the new effective defense bonus, given that an earlier damaged bunker or pillbox wouldn't probably give as good "cover"? Nope, this doesn’t sound like fun to consider now. But with CM2 and the East Front premise, I would find it a bit difficult to accept, on historical bounds, that a damaged or knocked-out B/P would always stay abandoned in some of the “hard core defense” battles a la Stalingrad or Sevastapol. So to me, there’s no real need to mess with this now. But please consider the suggestion on a “sticky note” basis for CM2.

I agree on this one. It would be really nice to have such options in CM2. MK
 2. I would suggest going to one of those online computer stores and do a motherboard + cpu + RAM + vid card upgrade (better to check prices at several places of course). I'm pretty sure you can get something at a good price. Get an older AMD chip with the proper motherboard and at least 64 megs of RAM, add a decent video card and you'll have a really nice machine. Of course, you could always be a rebel and get one of those fruity, funky lookin' apple machines ... think different. Heheh MK [This message has been edited by Kraut (edited 06-14-2000).]
 3. Now all we need are decent fire graphics. It looks kinda cheesy to see a "box" of fire coming from a burning tank. I don't really mind, but if the explosions can be improved why not the fire of burning vehicles? MK
 4. Hmmmm ... i'm not sure what's worse. MG's attitude or his spelling ... lol Do us all a favor MG and read through your posts *at least* once before hitting the submit button, mmm k? MK
 5.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: That F15 statistic does seem pretty laughable when one looks at the Gulf War success rates Steve

It's the man, not the machine! My father always told me nice little stories of german F4F's beating the crap out of american hot-shot pilots in their F-15's, because the american pilots would make stupid mistakes and were generally too cocky I guess it's better to make the mistakes during training and not in war. Just wonder if those pilots learned their little lessons ? MK
 6. Long considered the definitive WWII tactical board game, this Avalon Hill classic is finally brought to life on the PC. Hmmmmm ... MK
 7.
quote:
Originally posted by aka_tom_w: I guess I'm a click happy dip**** then because I really enjoy the rush of the real time action and I hope to simulate that with CM when we get TCP/IP with the timer that we can set to something SHORT like 1-2 minutes to watch the movie and 3-4 minutes to plot the turn! (or something like 5-7 minutes for both the plot phase and the 'watch the movie' phase) That is MY idea of FUN! Quick and Dirty! -tom w He he ... well, don't mean to offend anyone with my remark, but that's just how i feel. The CC series has lost all its appeal for me. It's nothing more than a standard RTS game set in ww2. And i've come to hate mindless RTS games ... yes, they can be fun, and since i got a free copy of AoK i played it several times and i enjoyed it somewhat. I used to play a lot of RA and other RTS games some time ago. But all these games are the same stupid thing over and over again and i guess i'm completely burnt out on them. To see a series that started off more a wargame than clickfest game turn into the same BS really pisses me off. The CC series could have been so much more and still appeal to a larger audience. So basically i guess i'm somewhat of a clickhappy dip**** too. MK
 8.
quote:
Originally posted by iggi: Kraut, those "click happy dip****s" are war gamers too. Maybe not to your standards but if we attack everyone that likes other games than CM, we'll be left with choices like deer hunter. If CC gets them into gaming, the better for it.

I meant click-happy dip**** more as the impulse buyer who has no clue about the history or the game. He just sees "real-time" on the package and sees the flashbang on the package and he's sold ... Those are the peopel atomic is aiming for IMO. Noone has to be a "wargamer". For me, the CC series has completely lost it's wargaming appeal. Everything is just blood, guts and explosions. This recipe is perfect for the click-happy dip****. MK
 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Deron: Having said that, I still think that if the data could be made more accurate, the lethality of weapons fire could be toned down to a more realistic (if less gee-whiz) level, and the tactical AI for the armor could be improved to the point that tank commanders could take reasonable care of themselves, it could be an amazingly fun game to play. I just don't see that happening.

Did see the new screenshots from CC5:Utah leach? More blood, more guts, more dead infantry laying around. What i don't understand is why people can't see that by just taking out the tanks in the game you don't make it an "infantry game". I've said so many times that it's the friggin lethality of weapons that sucks. Tanks just happen to have lots of those weapons on them ... *sigh* ... anyways, CC5 is gonna suck just like CC3/4. Uhhh ... but it's gonna have new maps! ... rofl MK
 10. 1-2 weeks? *WHINE* ... you guys sure know how to friggin torture us 'till the very last moment. Bleh! MK
 11. Ummm ... i thought WP was against the geneva convention or some other silly agreement to make war a more "family-like" (pun). Seriously, i thought it was outlawed by some organization somewhere somehow? Does anyone know specifics or *anything* about this? MK
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by grunto: CC6 is probably vaporware in response to CM. Keith at Atomic, if you're reading this you'd better make CC6 accurate first and foremost, because CM has already done a very nice job of that and my guess is that no one who is playing CM will play CC6 if the CC6 data is bad from the get-go. Why is it so hard for the Atomic people to put good data into their games? I know ASL/SL were abstractions but even that data would be better than what CC gave us.

Keith, dougie and the rodent have made it clear many many times, that wargamers are not their target audience. As far as i can tell, they aim for the impulse buyers and the clickhappy dip****s first. If some people with brains like it, so be it ... It's left to the consumer to make the data as accurate as possible and creare decent mods which make the games somewhat playable. MK
 13. I saw mine. Corporal in a green squad. Figures ... I'm gonna make sure to put my name into a big, fat king tiger someday, just so my ego gets a soothin'. MK
 14.
quote:
Originally posted by Deadline: Play Balance - Gives one side or another extra units based on the % increase or decrease selected. My question is can you give both sides (eg +150 % )so both sides are able to fight with larger amount of units, instead of giving one side more fire power.? thks deadline

As far as i've seen this is not possible. I wish it was possible though. It would be interesting (and a lot of fun) to play both sides of a battle at 150% strength. With the inconsistency of the force strength multiplier (huh? what? lol) this should yield some interesting set-ups. For example, if in the VoT scenario both sides had a multiplier of 150% you might see eleven shermans or lots of infantry on the US side, and on the german side you might see tons of infantry but only one panther, or you'd see little infantry but tons of mines and two or three panthers. I think this would add a good deal to the game if it doesn't take up too muhc time to implement. MK

 16.
quote:
Originally posted by Craig: at random intervals. I haven't added, deleted or changed a thing for at least a week. This just started happening today, and has occured 5 times now...twice when I was just sitting here doing nothing (well, paperwork), twice when reading the forum and once when running MS Works. If anyone else has seen this, please let me know. Thanks in advance. oh, and nothing else is running except systray and explorer. Craig

I have been having the same problems ... random reboots. The thing is, they did not happen until i installed the CM demo. When i uninstalled the demo the reboots and lockups stopped, until i installed the game again. Now i've uninstalled the demo oncemore and all is fine. This is the only link i have to the problem. If my computer doesn't reboot or lockup in the next week or so i'm gonna have to assume CM has something to do with it. MK

 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Kraut, I don't know what more we can do about this. For ever action there is an equal and opposite reaction. We think we have a happy medium here, and that more stickiness would create perhaps as many problems as it is supposed to solve.

That's why an extra order would be nice. Give us the option to "lock" our units on a target. If this target doesn't go out of LOS the players' unit will continue to fire on that target unless it is directly threatened. It'll just be something extra to give the player more control. And don't start telling me "more control is not always better". That's why it would be an optional order. You can choose to have more control in a situation like that, or you can just ignore it. Anwyays, we'll see how everything works out in the final version. I'd have to play a couple random battles and get used to the game completely before i could really comment on the overall behaviour. Thanks for the steady and quick responses btw. Keith Z. hates you for it ... lol MK [This message has been edited by Kraut (edited 05-17-2000).]
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Mark IV: I don't believe I've had one wiped by indirect fire yet.

I just had a wooden bunker toasted by 105's ... i tell ya, those americans are all wussies. Always call in artillery and air support instead of fighting like real men! ... lol MK
 21. IMO the bunkers are knocked out too easily. But of course i didn't do any reseach and have no idea how well bunkers performed in real-life. So it's just an oppinion ... I would like them to last a little longer. Those shermans with their laser-guided super-guns always knock my bunkers out with a few rounds (that is, after the second or third round the slit is hit and it's game over). It's probably the scenario though. I've played it several times, so has my opponent, therefore we both know what to expect. If this were a different map and setting the bunkers would probably have greater effect. MK
 22. This is the only serious gripe i have about CM. The relative lack of control you have during the action-phase. A lot of times i find my plans being totally screwed up because of the AI's behaviour. It's hard for me to lay a good ambush, even when using the ambush markers, and my units keep retargeting like nuts and sometimes end up not even fireing a shot (like with the 150mm gun). My men just don't wanna listen to me it appears. Though the AI often performs well and is "thinking" in line with my plan. I just wish there was some target command that was "exra sticky", and some "extra sticky" ambush marker. If you use one of these, your men are more likely to hold fire or keep targeting the target you assigned, unless they are directly threatened. MK
 23. spoiled spoilers spoiler ... I had a US engineer squad with two men left throw a satchel-charge (seemed like that) at an MG team that was annihilating them at 12 meters. I've also seen the nahrverteidigungswaffe in action. My panther knocked out a 60mm morter team hiding in a light building with it. Was kinda cool ... Havn'tad any success with fausts or schcks since i can't control my men and they always blow my ambush and then are annihilated. Maybe someday ... MK
 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Commissar: A Family atmosphere? Give me a break! Do they really think moms and dads are going to buy a game on war for family home evening? The grogs won't buy it and the families sure as hell won't. Why don't they just build a slide from their factory straight to the bargain bin? Saves time and shelf space that way.

If the put some nifty ads in the mags and include some kind of cool flashbang gfx, they will meet their profit margins. Just like CC5 ... MK
