1. WHAT? Quick battles are like CC? You smokin' something coolcolj? lol MK
 2. 2. Get rid of the turn based system and allow the game to be paused for orders at the will of the human player? The game IS real time. You DO pause to give orders. Every 60 seconds you adjust orders or give new orders. Once i started to think this way about combat mission i enjoyed it much more. As it stands the game if fun but a hassle to play for me. This is, however, the prototype of the perfect game. As as a ver 1 game, it just aint to shabby at all. So, it the above are on the drawing board for future versions, I will invest in it. This ain't a prototype for anything. This is the real deal. Play the game more, get used to the system and most importantly, throw out all you know about other wargames and sytems. Only if you do this will you be able to enjoy combat mission. I know, because this is the same process i went through ... MK
 3. I know i know ... just wanted to point it out again. lol MK
 4.
quote:
I don't mind losing. And I revel in smart AI. What I don't understand is how I was supposed to have any chance at all given the fact that I had one long range direct fire weapon against three for the Germans, had to expose myself completely in order to seize any objective, while attacking into terrain tailor made for the defense, and was completely outclassed in terms of fire support, both absolutely (Germans had much heavier artillery) and relatively (my arty too light for well protected foe's positions).

Sounds like you just got a lousy map and/or messed something up in the quick-battle set-up of which you were not aware of. Maybe you accidentily gave the AI a % modifier. What experience level were the AI troops set at, and what AI experience modifier was set? What kind of force did the AI get (armor, combined arms, mech or infantry)? I think this is one of those extreme cases where several fugg-ups came together to completely screw you over. I've played several quick battles already and in some i've totally whooped the AI, in others it was a challenge, and in some i was whooped good. Play a few more quick battles with different terrain and units/force mix. You'll see that the quick battle generator is quite balanced (judging from my games so far). MK
 5. The way i do it it use the hunt command. When my tank is behind a hill i just put a hunt command right up to the crest of the hill. My tank usually stops once they spot the enemy then open fire. MK
 6. Something from the other side of the fence ... Had a vet SS panther. AI had a vet 76mm gun. Panther dead on first shot, front hull penetration. O vell, wie schall return, wid more panzers! MK
 7. BRING YO ARTY TO DA PARTY! I was playing a quick battle, and when i was selecting my forces i opted not to bring artillery that one time. This turned out to be a big friggin mistake ... The AI placed an AT gun on a hill and took out two HT's a stuG42 and my only panther. Leaving me with one stuG42 and two HT's. Also the crummy little bastard killed or wounded about 15-20 infantrymen. Basically, that little 76mm AT gun stopped my attack cold and threw my plan out the window. I had to come up with a plan to take out that AT gun and continue to advance. It would have been so so easy to just plaster the AT gun with arty while keeping my forces safe. So ... don't make the same mistake i did. If you have a chance to obtain some artillery, any artillery, do so! If you are given artillery in a scenario, save it for these situation. MK
 8. It's just as useless to bitch about these people (of which i am one), especially since steve asked us all not to post. So, chill out and take your public lickings for not pre-ordering CM. lol MK
 9. Kick ass ... got my copy and i'm gonna go shoot up some shermans now MK
 10. Subby you little catholic fartknocker ... you know i'm gonna kick your butt for this. *grumble* No illegal practicing! lol MK
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Miyamoto Musashi: MA better (and far less expensive) route is to have your game featured in reviews, which CM will be in future issues of several magazines.

And since CM's gameplay is timeless (damn, that map-generator will keep us playing forever!), we should keep reminding people over time, that CM it still availiable at www.battlefront.com and that update X has just been released with new features. Of course, we shouldn't go to war and rampage through "other" boards and claim that CM kicks the other games ass and that anyone who plays those "other" games is stoooopid. Right? I think CM could sell consistently over time and not 90% of all copies in the first month or so where the hype-factor is greatest (like diablo and similar games). I assume the more CM1 sells, the better CM2 will be. Unless steve and charles spend all the mula on panther tanks and other assorted ww2 hardware. Heh ... MK
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: OK, you got me started

Please, continue ... (daikatana cha cha cha, daikatana cha cha cha!) ... heh MK ps. Daikatana! lol
 13.
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Just to clarify the thing about publishing... We opted to not have a publisher because to do so would have compromised what we wanted Combat Mission to be. In spite of our very honest and outward distaste for large publishers we were approached in a serious way by two. We turned both down. We don't need to have the screws put to us by the suits only to have us dropped when they decided that they don't want or need us anymore. We chose our course and never once felt the need to whore ourselves to make a living. Strong statement? You bet As for the somewhat less than positive view of our marketing... Doug might be surprised over the next couple of months how "little" our effort is. While other games look to huge advertising budgets to secure timely and favorable reviews we decided to do it the old way -> merit. And from what we have seen so far, it is working. All in all things are going better than we could ever have hoped in terms of PR. And the game hasn't even reached people's hands yet Steve

I'm glad things are working out. It's a relief, because i think the "system" you're using produces better games for us all to play. Of course it takes a *little* longer to make 'em, but in the end it doesn't really matter. MK ps. I like the "whore" thing Anyone read about the development of daikatana? 30 million dollar whore worth 1 1/2 stars ... rofl [This message has been edited by Kraut (edited 06-17-2000).]

 15. If you're up near remagen, visit the museum in Koblenz. It's the "wehrtechnisches museum", or something like that (can't remember the exact name, or spelling ). If i recall correctly, it has several AFV's from ww2 and a whole lot of other stuff, including modern weapons. MK
 16. What do i do if i don't have a scanner? lol MK
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Mark IV: Well, they DID ask us to drop it. It's clear that some animosity exists, especially after the pointless and stupid exchanges of recent days. I'm sure there's always one more thing to say, but we should just let BTS handle CC. CCs loyal followers, like ours, will never be swayed by argument or invective- we just draw more trolls and stupidity here, and get a very bad reputation for ourselves. So we should comply with BTSs wishes, as they have complied with so many of ours, and drop it.

You're right. Pretty stupid of me to post about this. Sorry, but i was thinking (for an instant maybe) that i might get some info on the feasability of marketing a game like BTS is marketing CM. It's just a matter of time before the trolls show up and turn this one into a pile of stinky dung MK
 18. I really don't want to get into the CC vs. CM debate because it brings us nowhere. However there was a quote on the CC forum from doug (think it's still THE doug from atomic) which disturbed me and i would really like BTS, or anyone who has knowledge of the subject, to comment on it. It doesn't have much to do with CC or CM directly, but more about marketing computer games nawadays. Well, here it is ... "Charley and company have every right to be proud of the game they have made. They couldn't find a publisher/distributor for it so they are guerella marketing it themselves. Nothing wrong with that. OTOH, there is something wrong with the actual execution. *snip stuff*" I was always thinking BTS actually made the game without a publisher because they didn't WANT a publisher. They chose to make the game on their own because they didn't want outside interferance (their manifesto is kinda cool ). Am i mistaken? Is it not feasable in these times to make a game on your own, publish it and sell it yourself, without going bankrupt? Steve, Charles, sorry if i'm being off-topic or just out of line here, especially when we all should be focussing on the release of CM, but i'm just interested in this and that quote really disturbed me. MK
 19. I posted a reply to someone about CM too. What surprises me is that the mentioning of CM was not in a confrontational manner, at least in one post. Some people just went nutso about it and started spewing dung in all directions about how lame the various abstracions and features in CM are. But seriously, how well would YOU treat a person who, on this forum, claimed CC was better than CM? Probably like **** ... MK
 20. IP play will definitely make the games a lot faster. I just hate waiting for someone to plot their turn while i'm biting my nails waiting for the dang file-transfer. Would rather spend that time plotting myself ... MK
 21. I looked up the site where i started my search for my new machine again(was a couple of months ago, uhh no wait, almost a year, geez, time flies when you're not playing CM). I saw an add on TV for http://www.bizrate.com/ and, like the good, braindead consumer i am, instantly got online and checked out the site. The site basically rates online stores, so it has a listing of companies which sell hardware etc. online. I picked the best one from their list and compared it against a few others i found and ... well, you know, spent my money. MK
