1. Doug, having played you in PBEM, let me add to what Fionn has provided: (Commanded by Beman) Fast, Hunt, Move, Stationary Your favourite doodyhead
2. Inside Mac Games (www.insidemacgames.com) did a story a couple of months a go on the CM development and have updated it and provided the Beta Demo download on their site more recently. They also distributed the Beta Demo on their monthly CD. I would expect that they will do a comprehensive coverage of the release of the final product, and if not I will get right on them about it. If you have a Mac and don't already check out their site regularly, you should. ------------------ desert rat wannabe
3. OK, I have a better one. What is Jabo derived from? Also, what were the typical air support planes in the European Theatre and what sort of ordinance did they carry? My guesses: Yanks - Thunderbolt, Mustang Brits - Hurricane, Spitfire
4. If it was a 250 MB img file it COULD have been an image of the full demo or current build, but I would doubt it because that would mean someone would have had to hack into BTS, or got it from their beta testers. Any other company and I would probably beleive it, but BTS seems to have a pretty good set of people inside and out. If it was any of the beta testers, there are ways BTS can find out and I wouldnt think they would risk it.
5. Hey Bullethead, let me help you out here. I think the combination you are looking for here in Neandro-luddite-grunt. How's that work. Oh ****, I still have a game going with Berli. ------------------ desert rat wannabe
6.
quote:
. . . haunting, hallucinatory meditation on the nature of death; lyrical, transcendental and deeply moving

Certainly a little rich for the Captain's blood, however for the colonial perspective on this movie I will add, since I only recently saw the film as well: Typically, if you are going to attempt this type of personal psychological perspective on war it helps to do a bit of character development (al a Apocalypse Now). So, either Malik or the editor working on the film should have left a fair bit of the film that was obviously chooped off the front of the reel. The only character that I remember that we get a sense of their motivation is Nick Nolte, who obviously wants his full bird and is set to impress a general, who is unconvincingly portrayed by John Travolta. Perhaps roles should have been reversed. 7. Oops, forgot Mr. Bauhaus.
quote:
Just wondering, will Steve send the game to you complete with flowers and chocolates, or will he just take you out to dinner and then give you the big one......game that is.

I thought a nice light dinner of Thai takeaway and then straight to a heated battle on my office LAN would do the trick while Charles sorts out some problems I am having on some pesky C++ code I have here. Then we'll switch off when we run out of piss or have to go shake hands with the governor. Speaking of big ones, whats that I am ramming home to you in our game. You know, leaving me with all three StuGs was probably less than totally smart for a game plan on turn 4 since you seem to be all out of cans. ------------------ desert rat wannabe [This message has been edited by Goanna (edited 01-17-2000).] [This message has been edited by Goanna (edited 01-17-2000).]
8. Sorry for the delay in my reply as my beauty rest was required. First off, thanks for taking care of my light work Leyland. NLT is indeed "no later than", and the date was as you thought, Fionn, 30 April. Don't tell me you Irish folks have adopted the way those yanks provide dates ahve you? Now, down to the real point of this thread. I think what some of the folks here are after is some of the real servitude we have purchased from Steve old boy by sending him our, what was it $45? Personally, I am considering requiring Charles and him to hop on a plane at the end of the week and flying to see me to explain the delay in person. I mean hell, I am his CUSTOMER aren't I? And of course he wouldn't want to disappoint the .0000001% market share that I and the rest of the Australians will represent. So hey, lets not worry about the brewing flame war on the board. The only people who need to take a break from reading the board are the folks at BTS. Just have someone they delegate weed through the wingeing to find any salient items that might be posted and lets get out the chees and have a real whinefest. Good Day. PS: Steve/Charles is coach OK for the tickets I'm posting, because I had to fly a guy from Microsludge out here last week to sort him out and I'm a bit short on dosh in the expense account? ------------------ desert rat wannabe
9. Oh, my hairy flightless friend (Titan), such a pity that you don't recognise the evidence that was right before you at the time. In both Desert Storm and Kosovo the US only needed a relatively small number of senior officers, so they were able to scour their entire army for the one they wanted to lead. It just so happens that they picked Norman due to the fact that he was probably decent commander, had done his time and kissed the right butts and was also one of the only US officers to have lived in Iraq before. Were they required to use an army or corps size force and the conflict took more than 100 hrs, I am sure they would have had to use a larger range of their officer corps, and would have exposed some less than successful commanders, both young and old. PS: the preferred spelling of rubbish is as I have provided previously. Perhaps now that you have a Labour leader they will reinstitute spelling in NZ public schools. Now, wheres that flogging I was promised from one of you kiwis that take animal husbandry a bit too literally?
10. Not funny at all, junior A pox upon your house.
11. What rubbish. Just the sort of thing we'd expect from a kiwi. Read all the books, but just looked at the pictures. Aren't all peace time armies filled with a lot of career guys getting older, and wouldn't a lot of them be quite useless on the battlefield. * All nationalistic content should be viewed in the manner intended. ------------------ desert rat wannabe
12. I am fully in agreement with Tobruk. If you are bored with what we have now, you obviously haven't been playing enough PBEM. I was convinced I was going to delete the demo from my HD then thought "Oh, I'll just try a PBEM to see what that is like before deleting it". Taking on a human (or even somebody like Berli) adds a whole new dimension to the game. Now I'm not going to stop until I see the Nawidontknowitsname work, or I get the real thing. PS: Mike is full of crap. Gold demo 31/1. Game sent to Goanna by Steve personally 14/2. First whipping of Fionn NLT 30/4. ------------------ desert rat wannabe
13. Attention all you N. Hemisphere weather weenies - please come to Antarctica and collect all your spent CFCs as they are really screwing up our end of the ozone layer and ruining my days at the beach. I got a sunburn through SPF 15 yesterday. What have I got to do - take a bath in zinc creme.
14. One reason some of the younger players might do well aginst the "old farts" in CM is that they don't follow classic styles of play and tend to improvise more. I know that I have a difficult time beating Berlichingen and this may have something to do with the fact that we both have military experience and he probably has an easier time predicting what I will do compared to Eridani. In any case, I am looking forward to games with Eridani, SSPanzerleader and some of the younger guys. I enjoyed playing Cpt. Manieri (not just because I won) but because I enjoyed the good taunting he provided. Mr Peng sort of breaks this mold, however, since I know he is older, but has a line of BS few seem to match. ------------------ desert rat wannabe
15. Your discussion on Custer is very apt for the topic of age/experience. I am thinking especially of his later loss/death at Little Big Horn that perhaps shows his how even after he had gained experience, he kept his style of attack constant. His primary failing at LBH had to be his failure to get a good assessment of his opposing force, and also his arrogance at thinking they would trounce the indians
16. Fionn, you forgot to say you'll miss seeing a small band of provos pop out and toast a few Churchills and Stuarts when all appears lost for the Germans in a few scenarios. Hmmm, IRA v Poms in CM21
17. Naw, they probably sold all the crappy ones second hand to us Steve. We Australians are world famous for buying things that sound great but end up being crap. Hmmm, anybody want a Collins Class sub real cheap.
18. Did he do all of this with no infantry support the whole day? ------------------ desert rat wannabe
19. (23) 13 year old kids beating up on those older and more devious than them. Now that's real world modelling.
20. Well, not quite Hundminen, as I am only 35. However, my wife already calls me a growly- bear, and thinks I'm pretty strange, but hey she knew it was a package deal when she signed up. TIP: Right when she is in the middle of a really good rant try "Hey, why don't you go make me a sandwich?" Usually gets mine laughing (or I get smacked, either way I'm ususlaly looking at 20 more minutes of gaming in solitude) ------------------ desert rat wannabe
21. Me whipping Berli's ass. c'mon, it might be in there. ------------------ desert rat wannabe [This message has been edited by Goanna (edited 01-13-2000).]
22. In CE I once walked a .30 cal all the way from the second story of the Christensen Farm to the second storey Ott Farm in midair through tracer fire. Made it with only two casualties, obviously due to shock value of this tactic. ------------------ desert rat wannabe
23. Let's see, it would go God, Maneiri . . . Christ, I wouldn't even make full bird, I better get a move on. ------------------ desert rat wannabe
