  1. I notice you have selectively cherry-picked the responses that you have quoted. For example, you left out, "My stock response to these questions: Why in the world would you not get both? I'm certain I'll purchase multiple copies of CMBB (at least 5 - always need a backup and they make great gifts for friends) and, if GIC is as good as I'm hoping / expecting, I'll probably do the same." and, [b}"I don't see any reason not to get both. I just tried the demo of CMBB and it is a much slicker game. The AI does seem better but it's hard to tell with limited (2) missions available on the demo. It did appear as though routed German troops in the game actually fled and regrouped in a second defensive position in some trees in one of them and that seemed like a marked improvement. Definitely gettin' both" and, most importantly, from the GI Combat creator himself, "Hmmm, why would you only buy one of them? E" Seems to me that you are trolling to start a flame war...When MadMatt closes this one up and says it belongs in the General Forum, maybe someone will have a verbal joust with you. Have a nice day.
  2. To those who sent me mail, and you know who you are, thank you profusely for your efforts to help me get my undeserving mitts on a copy of this game. I whole-heartedly appreciate your kindness. Alas, it is just not to be. First, AOL sucks. 126 disconnects later (can't wait until my parents get that itemized phonebill ), and the closest I got was 18.1 megs downloaded of the German version before it canned my connection with 2hrs and 52 minutes left. Now it won't even continue that one. AOL sucks. Thank you all again. Oh, and did I mention that AOL sucks?!?!? Paul
  3. Biggest letdown? Hmmmm.... Probably the fact that I can't get it to download at a speed that takes less than 16 hours to complete, which will never be reached because each server seems to cut me off at about 4 hours....
  4. Sitting here at my parents house watching the demo download at under 2K speed, a mere 16 hours to go. Can anyone who has got the file downloaded e-mail me a copy to the address in my profile? I know my connection to my e-mail server is a lot faster than 1.73 KB/Sec. And somebody start posting AARs! I've almost got to the point of reading SeniorTits threads again... Back to drooling over the spoilers.....
  5. JackCarr, Did you own a liquor store in Walden? I didn't know there were any CM'ers that close to me. I live in Blooming Grove. Perhaps after the demo has been out for a few days we could venture over to the Orange Inn and discuss some of the finer points of human wave attacks over a sample of Bad Apfel or Asbach Uralt, or some other spirit of choice. Paul
  6. Andreas, you are a good man. I hoped someone from the tastiest thread of all would revive it. I am looking to make a special trip on thursday to my purveyor of fine spirits, and am hoping to find a nice bottle of Lagavulin or Talisker and something new for myself . Having to make do right now with a couple fingers of Tullamore Dew (Make note of this Moriarity - it's a fairly tasty Irish spirit, up there with Bushmills and Jameson) while I anticipate the night of the refresh monkeys. Has anyone tried any of the new "finishes" of Glenmorangie? Better yet, anyone who has been to the holy land of single malts have advice for a potential tourist? 7. Fisrt comes the Haiku... Once the Scotch thread resurfaces, it will be the confirmation that CMBB is upon us....
  8. Psyched, You said, I disagree. There is a difference between showing that an area is not 100% secure, and a last minute flag rush, which does not prove the area is not secure, it just shows there are opposition forces also present in the area, which is enough to distort the victory points. It states nothing about the fact that given an additional 3-5 minutes that those forces would usually be annihilated en masse by the forces that held the flag area. The typical flag-rusher usually uses crews from vehicles or abandoned heavy weapons, partial squads, FO's with no ammo left, etc. to dispute the area. If those forces could truly provide the force necessary to dispute the control of the area, the opponent would have done it before the last minute of the game and got the victory points for himself. Waiting to the last minute(s) just ensures that they will not be completely wiped out before the clock ends. It's entirely unrealistic. Could you really imagine a company or platoon commander ordering a flag rush without expecting to be fragged by their own troops? It is entirely an exploitation of the game system, which is remedied by the end game randomizer.
  9. A true "Good CM Opponent" is by definition not a "Flag-Rusher". Flag rushers are quickly put on the list of people not to play against, and word of being on that list spreads quickly.
  10. Sorry to see you go Ted, I have followed your tournaments with interest. They have always been entertaining.
  11. Where's the Weasel?????? Or is that why they are grinning so much......
  12. Buy it now. Don't think about it, just do it. It's been in my cd-drive for the last 2 years, only being removed a couple of times to burn some mixed music cd's for parties. Best damn $$$ I ever spent on computer-related gear of any kind. And I mean any kind .
  13. It sounds to me like nothing but a sure way to get put on a list of people that no one will ever play again. There is no element of skill involved, and it sure as hell doesn't even sound like much fun, particularly the guarantee of being nicknamed a "flag rusher".
  14. So, even though it does not cost you victory points, it does cost you global morale. Assuming you are moving as many units as he suggests off the map, your forces will autosurrender, will they not?
  15. If you retreat units off the map, does it cost you vicory points???
  16. I believe this one has been beaten to death. Because of its incredibly slow reload time, it may get off 1 shot if it starts the scenario loaded, and possibly may have time to reload once or twice before the scenario runs out of time. It would have an enormous rarity cost, as well, so you could probably buy a handful of Ferdinands for the same number of points. I don't think it would last very long against a human opponent. I'd certainly much rather have some of the other vehicles that were talked about that would add a lot more to the game.
  17. Maybe it's because they said "by Sept 20", which opens a whole new can of significant dates between now and then...
  18. Capt, You would be right... if they had marketed CMBB to an audience that wasn't already a virtual lock to buy the product. Sort of a preaching to the choir bit. The bulk of the people on this forum are already sold on the game. Marketing to us board lurkers would have been a waste of the marketing budget... And the comparison to GI Combat? I won't be the first to go there. The graphics look slick, but so did Close Combat IV. GI Combat has got a lot to prove that it isn't just Close Combat Episode XXVII before I buy it.
  19. Appalling. Absolutely appalling. The fact that a gentleman would open his home to complete strangers in this era to let them get a taste of something that isn't quite finished yet, and then gets lambasted for doing so, makes me sick to my stomach. Gratitude is becoming more rare than sushi these days. People complaining that too much "teasing" is being done by the guys at bfc are being ridiculous. If you don't want the samples, why log on to the forum every day? You know the occasional bone is being tossed, and even better are the events like Rune's place. 20. OG, Your use of the flak wagons tilts the battle heavily in your favor. Try the same battle without the flak wagons or scale up the attackers points and troop quality modifiers. That still may not offset the unfair advantages of the Sd Kfz 7/2. It will be a whole new ballgame, and quite a fun one at that.
  21. Played a 2000 pt ME vs the AI last night, as the Germans. I utilized 11 Mk IV H and 5 SS Motorized Platoons, 1 of them Vet, all the rest regular. Using 1 regular platoon in split squad mode as a screening force supported by 2 Mark IV's, and each of the other 3 regular platoons supported by 3 Mk IV's a piece (kept the vet platoon as a reserve to exploit any gaps), I advanced the three platoons, 2 up, 1 back about 200 meters behind the recon force. I found a gap in the left flank of the landscape, and exploded through the AI's line at high speed, then wheeling right, advancing at a pace far faster than I usually do. It was interesting to see the result of the speedy advance, as the AI's arty calls were falling behind my troops, causing minimal damage to my forces. The AI eventually called arty on its own positions (did it do that intentionally, or did it retreat right into its own arty strike?), which caused them to completely capitulate, surrendering on Turn 24. It was very interesting to see how the AI's troops (all Vet Ami's) crumbled under the weight of the concentrated application of force. Score 92-8, 40 Casualties for me, lost 1 Mk IV to a Sherm 76(W). 244 Casualties for the AI, who lost 2 Shermans, a Priest, a couple of miscellaneous light armors and 41 prisoners. What a blast. Is that (11 Mk IV's, 5 platoons, no arty) a somewhat historically accurate attacking force? I suppose the result would be different in an attack versus an ME, but what fun.
  22. Silly rabbit... That would be assuming someone could hurt a Finn...
  23. I'd rather be taking on a T-34 with a Sherman than a KV-1 with a PZ-38(t). Least with the Sherman you got a fighting chance.
