  1. Next week? That's as much of a tease as the old Alpha AAR days, when I religously checked for updates on every hour. Bastages! Guess I'll play another versus the AI... I really like the depth of the map. I am hoping that is what the maps in CM:BB will be like.
  2. AAR's like these are a big part of why I love this game. Every one gives you a little piece of insight that hopefully makes your game a little better, and gives you strategic pointers. Especially with the attached movies. Thanks for the efforts guys, they are truly appreciated, even if not everyone who reads them says so.
  3. Did anyone else catch the "turret down" position of the tanks? Is this a new version of "hull-down" or is this just hull down called something else????
  4. Love the rusty mufflers on the T-26's. Very nice touch. Looks incredible!
  5. Mileage is relative. What's a Dodge Durango get these days, 13-14 MPG? And they only weigh 5-6000 pounds. A tiger weighs what, 80,000 pounds? It's 15 times heavier, but the mileage is only 1/7. Not too bad.
  6. Ah yes, chess moves are not "gamey". But in chess, the bishop can only move on its diagonal, whereas a bishop equivalent in the CM environment (the 7/2 Flak Trak) can move in diagonals AND in Circles (far more difficult to kill than in reality).
  7. He forgot the part about the guy on the turret of the tank shooting the .50 Cal really being Audie Murphy.
  8. Xerxes - That was funny. I don't think redwolf got it right away. Silvio, It seems to me that most Axis HT's are relatively expensive and very fragile. Especially in an assault, where a good defender will have defense it depth with multiple fire lanes, the length of survival for an Axis HT in an area where it can contribute suppressing fire is very low. Very, Very Low. This is usually due to an effective defender not leaving infantry hanging out in the breeze not supported by some kinds of heavy weapons. Most any variety of so-called heavy weapons will bring about the quick demise of the HT. Too expensive for me to do that. I'd rather buy an infantry or AT gun that will be more likely to eliminate its own cost(or more) in points before its death. Helps in winning the war of attrition.
  9. They seem to die just as quickly in the supporting role as they do in the transport role. Far too many ways for these guys to begin careers as dead half-tracks
  10. Any of the above mentioned items will take out the Cromwell from just about any direction, and they will all take out a Churchill from the side or rear. Don't be concerned with the Cromwell, and use maneuver or stealth to approach the Churchill from any direction other than its front & you'll be fine.
  11. Trying to get your squads to use their 'fausts, PIATs or rifle-grenades? Just play me. My AFV's seem to be walking billboards for enemy infantry units. I can have a squad cowering under supressing fire from a whole platoon and heavy weapons, and as soon as I bring an AFV into range to finish them off, they will miraculously arise and put a faust through the glacis at 25m. Every time. It's like a bad movie. The enemy unit will then go right back into suppressed mode, and leave me more pissed than ever.
  12. Newlife, Can you send me that "Biggie-Sized" scenario you were talking about a few posts ago? Thanx
  13. JAK, Now don't get me wrong, but against a human opponent, it is really, really hard to find a lane that is secure enough to get your troops to that building without the HT just ending up being a hearse going to visit Quincy at his office. Even if you are dragging along a few PAK's, it takes far too long to get them unlimbered in a spot that has a useful lane of fire without the crews ending up trying to catch bullets with their bodies. The plan is a good one, however. we all know that a good plan never survives contact. Perhaps it would work better in the forest terrain, but I just can't see it working in urban areas. Newlife, e-mail me that scenario if you would, I'd like to give it a crack sometime. Sounds like fun.
  14. Well, I have tried this before, and it doesn't work. It sounds good and all, but what if your opponent has some .50 cals with them? Your SPW's will not only not offer any safety, they'll be dead half-tracks, and any surviving occupants will be routed and running for the edges of the map. It also assumes the enemy will attack only from one direction if you can bring things safely to the rear. Typically, a human player will attack from multiple directions, and if you are holding a building, the building will be reduced to rubble within 2 minutes due to direct fire from some SPG, tank, AA or on or off-map arty. My only success with mounted infantry has been utilizing the Canadian Ram Kangaroos with a platoon of troops to make high speed dashes to turn the tide of a battle or show up someplace unexpected. The Ram has much heavier armor than the half-track, and if you are reasonably certain the AT assets are dead or suppressed, the Ram is very, very handy.
  15. So, Any juicy tidbits for a CM-Vet who couldn't be there????? A crumb???? Anything????
  16. Indeed. I tip my hat. He has helped quite a number of people. My gratitude. Crapgame
  17. Didn't they know that Puppchens were gamey???
  18. Can someone send me Bazooka Hunt & BH2? They sound like they'd be good practice of stalking techniques. Thanks
  19. I'll second the ZipMagic recommendation. 2 thumbs up for simplicity.
  20. OK, 1. I don't know what you are asking here. 2. If a soldier appears, and then a cross replaces them, it means the unit has left your sight, and the cross is a marker that indicates you had seen something there in the past 3. TCP is essentially online play, but you will have to hope that someone with more TCP playing time can answer this for you. I believe that just having AOL is enough, but may be wrong. 4. Your computer is on the low end, but should be able to play smaller battles just fine. I ran it on a Pentium 200 for a month before I bought my newer PC. Hopefully, your graphics chip is decent. If not, you can spend 50$ and get a pretty good upgrade, which will let you play bigger battles, and run smaller ones more smoothly.
  21. Crash, Think about it in these simple terms. Picture a human face as a tank turret, with the nose being the mantlet/cannon. If someone throws a crumpled up piece of newspaper at that person's nose from below, it will hit the underside of the nose and deflect into the area of the person's mouth. Similarly, if a cannon shell hits the underside of some tank's mantlet, the shots deflect downwards into the hull of the tank, often killing the driver/bow gunner, etc. Sorry about the dopey analogy, but I thought it would be easy to visualize, and had too much wine with dinner.
