  1. Well... there is a specific way to load troops onto an M1, but it is almost never, ever done. Thats what Bradleys are for.
  2. They're riding on the outside becaus etheir biggest threat is mines/IEDs. If there was a direct fire threat, they'd either be outside walking or inside throwing up.
  3. I think if they could plug this processor onto the Phys-X card you might actually have a product that people would buy. As it is now, I'm not gonna pay $300 for each of them.
  4. HEAT would be effective at suppression, if not destruction. And the new cannister rounds are good for everything within around 600m (i.e. RPG teams).
  5. I saw this posted elsewhere, thought it was worth showing you guys: http://armor.kiev.ua/fofanov/Tanks/TRIALS/19991020.html The Russians ran some tests against the T80U and T90 with their modern AT weapons and various countermeasures. The RPG-29 was by far the most successful.
  6. Out of curiosity, do the Syrians organize their mech divisions like the Soviets - with two BTR regiments, a BMP regiment and a tank regiment (plus a seperate tank battalion)?
  7. Are the mortar team's BMPs possibly really MT-LBs? I've never heard of a BMP being used to tow mortars (like the 120mm). The ammo loadouts do sound realistic, though.
  8. Sweet. I really dig this research you're doing.
  9. Yeah - I forgot that Strykers have an MEV at the company level. I was about to correct you on that. So Lt. Jones is a West Point grad? (I'm going to hell for that, aren't I?)
  10. So the assistant leader in this instance would be the Platoon Sergeant? Will the platoon medic be portrayed at all?
  11. What are the stars next to the rifles? Also, the UI looks very clean and easy to navigate.
  12. Are their regiments equivalent to battalions or brigades (like Soviet regiments)?
  13. I want to make it clear that they are handed out to only reserve batallions. I found no information that would support their being used with regular Syrian army forces. </font>
  14. The Commandos/SF sound a lot like the Saddam Fedayeen and Republican Guard units in OIF - they were used to bolster the militias and regular army units too (and after most of those guys fled, the Fedayeen were often the only ones left fighting).
  15. IIRC Steve mentioned that there would be some Company-level UAVs, but not UGVs.
  16. Yeah, I noticed it. But that's just for the armor. This is for the whole thing.
  17. I have a google vid from a game that modelled the OICW that showed what it was capable of better than any marketing brochure I ever saw.
  18. Its official: Aug 29/06: A General Dynamics release says that the U.S. Army has awarded General Dynamics Land Systems $45 million to produce and install 505 Tank Urban Survivability Kits (TUSK) for Abrams main battle tanks supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. We asked GDLS how this fit with the $21.7 million Aug 10/06 contract; they replied that their announcement covers two contracts - the earlier contract for buying the material, building and kitting the gear that comprises the TUSK upgrade. The balance is for the labor associated with installing them. Which, for those of us who have taken our cars in for upgrades or repairs, seems about right. http://www.defenseindustrydaily.com/2006/08/street-fighters-m1-abrams-tusk-tank-conversions-updated/index.php#more
  19. If that 25mm weapon is anything like the 20mm they were gonna use on the OICW it should be pretty cool.
  20. What if they're bumpers? I know its not the best angle, but I don't see any wires coming out of them. They're located in places on the cage that are more likely to bump into things when turning in an urban environment. The little blue-black things stuck in the tubes could easily be some form of rubber or soft impact plastic.
  21. I thought that too, but there are still 16 dischargers on the remote mount. I'm wondering if its maybe a laser detection system or some kind of riot control device?
  22. Interesting. I've never seen them either.
