  1. Blah blah blah.....Yeah whatever. Pontificate somewhere else children. Now, as tow the two points brought up: Co-Op Play: this is something we will look at when we rewrite the game code (CMII). We think it would be cool too, but not sure how feasable the coding would be and too much work to put in now. Career Mode: Not likely as it's a little out of the design scope of the game. We have commented on this element many times in the past. Once the Search Feature is fixed (UBB admits its yet another bug) I would recommend looking it up as there were some pretty good conversations in the past about this. 2. Start ONE (and only ONE) new Peng thread. This one is getting a little top heavy. Madmatt
  3. Guys, every bit of time you force on me to police and lock down pointless threads is time spent away from working on CM2 or improving Battlefront.com's infrastructure. Please, enough with this crap already. I have better things to bash my head against than countless irrelevant threads. Madmatt
  4. Okay, this thread has zero merit. Madmatt
  5. Bump maping, T&L, Dynamic Lighting Sources and pretty much every other neato wizzbang hardware based graphic effect and technique will certainly be considered for when we rewrite the CM Engine (CMII) but not before. Madmatt
  6. We do not allow people to come to the warehouse and pick up their orders. Just opens up all sorts of cans of worms. Hardtail send ME your order info (name, address, method of payment) and I will lookup your status. Emails to the sales account WILL take weeks to get a reply due to the overwhelming backlog there. I am going to close up this thread now as we will continue this offline. Madmatt [ 04-25-2001: Message edited by: Madmatt ]
  7. No Japanese for CM2. We are focusing on the other flank of Russia for this one! Now to close this one up as its starting to feel a little warm... Madmatt
  8. Yeah send that to me as currently the largest generated maps are a tad under 5km x 3km and if you got one bigger somehow I want to see how. Madmatt
  9. All the slots are filled and we are not taking any requests for new testers. Thanks! Madmatt [ 04-24-2001: Message edited by: Madmatt ]
  10. Nope, not going to get into it with you guys on another "My X is Bigger, Better and Faster Than Your Y" argument. Madmatt
  11. Although Steve and Dan could comment with a little more authority on this, from what we have found in our research apparently points to the fact that as the war went on the Russians seemed to be less and less concerned with actually removing the fuel tanks before combat (maybe they were not fearing the Germans as much?). In the game you will see this play out as the early models of vehicles will not have the fuel tanks but some of the later models will. Also Soviet Diesel Fuel is NOT very explosive and has a very high flashpoint, roughly equivalent to US diesel no.2. Madmatt [ 04-24-2001: Message edited by: Madmatt ]
  12. Independant suspension graphics (rotating road gear, bogies etc...) are not planned for CM2. A little TOO much eye candy and not worth the processor/video hit at this point... Madmatt
  13. Please use the Opponent Finder Forum in the future for such posts. Madmatt
  14. Please don't post TEST Posts as all they tend to do is waste my time. Madmatt
  15. Infopop, the makers of UBB, have removed the search by name function. I don't know why... Madmatt
  16. Ok, bye. No need for long drawn out goodbyes, you know your always welcome back! Madmatt
  17. Once the material is stored on my server and is accessable from my site the ownership of said fiels becomes mine, as content of my server. That doesn't by any means say that the same mod can't be cross posted to more than site (and many are) but it does mean that I could pretty much do as I want with the mod ON MY SITE. Now obviously, what is legal and what is practicable are very different and I think that is what is getting lost here. As to the Copyright annoucement one only has to look at the bottom of any of my pages on CMHQ to see said Copyright message. It's always been there... Also, have a nice long readthrough on some of the mods's readme's and you will see very plainly that many mod authors stipulate that there material may NOT be ever re-distributed without there say so or for the aim of making money. Here it is, nice and easy. A.) Don't post direct links into another servers file area. It has always been considered rude and inconsiderate. B.) Don't make some sort of Mod Collection without the permission of the mod author and the webmaster of the site that you mean to get it from. C.) Just relax and enjoy the work that many mod authors and webmasters have done to better enhance the enjoyment of the game. Now, as Fuerte had originally said, I agree that a comprehensive Mod List would be great but I can tell you that a "Best Of" list would be nearly impossible to compile without some sort of way to judge them... Now THAT would be an interesting idea. Perhaps some good can come of this thread afterall. Maybe one of the many website can hold some sort of "Best of the Mods" voting contest or some such. Maybe devide it up to "Best Vehicle Mod", "Best Terrain", "Best Miscelaneuous" etc... perhaps I could even finagle some sort of award or recognition from Battlefront.... Anyone want to champion this idea??? Madmatt p.s. As to a MDMP-3 (which was the whole point of this mess) well, Dan and I never said we WOULDN'T do one.... [ 04-22-2001: Message edited by: Madmatt ]
  18. Fuerte, how many times are you going to miss the point? No one is making money here, its all about what Copyright laws really mean. This exact same discussion crops up every so often and some people always get up on the fence and yell "Fault" at those of us that run websites and try to paint us (or rather, usually ME) as a tyrant bent on control and it's not that at all. BUT, for those of us that run successfull websites, and CMHQ is the most successfull CM wesite in existance, sometimes you have to take a more business like attitude to running the operation. That tends to ruffle some feathers, oh well... If you don't like that, than fine, don't visit my site. I won't lose any sleep over it as I will still get over 3000 hits a day just fine. I have the oldest and biggest CM dedicated site on the internet and have relationships (and good ones) with many many mod artist and article authors. You can ask them yourself if they have a problem with the way I run my website and other than I may be a little tardy now and again with updates I think they would report no issues with the serice that I provide. Now, to get back on the original point, you can NOT just assemble collections of mods and make them available without the express permission of the mod authors and hosting sites administrators. Welcome to the real world, but thats how these things work. Does that mean that such a collection would never be done? Not at all, but their are rules and etiquete that needs to be followed. The mods are free to download and use in the game as you see fit, but making a profit from them by making some sort of CD collection is against the law. Also remember that Big Time Software and Battlefront.com are the real owners of this stuff as it requires Combat Mission to work and is all based on that original code. You can't even use the Combat Mission name in a product without their permission and any for profit add-on product would have to have their express permission. Madmatt
  19. <BLOCKQUOTE>quote:</font><HR>Originally posted by Fuerte: That is bad news indeed... I thought that the mods were meant for the benefit of all people, not to make any profit or something.<HR></BLOCKQUOTE> They are, and I have never made a penny from any mod (much to the disbelief of some) but thats not the point at all. Its an investment of time, pride in ones work and various agreements with the Mod artists themselves that are at play here more than any desire to make a quick buck. Someone sends me a mod and they will know that I will check it out, make recommendations for improvements and basically bust my freaking ass to make sure it is the best that it can be. Ask any of the mod authors and I would hope that they would tell you that I go out of my way to present their work in a professional and co-opertaive manner. Now, if some loser with a website comes along and just links right into my FTP server how is that benifiting ANYONE other than himself? He didn't make or foster any sort of mod community. He didn't work hours after hours to help any mod artists gain acceptance for their work. He didn't provide a substantial outlay of funds to build a server and provide ample bandwidth so the mods could be found and hosted. Basically he didnt do a damn thing other than sponge off of someones else hard work and that is wrong in my book. I am not all that concerned about copyrights to be honest. Technically anything that is posted on CMHQ becomes my property as the owner of the site and server (and the submitters are aware of this but I also don't really care what they do with their stuff unless their is some sort of distribution agreement ahead of time) but what I do care about is doing what is right and grabbing someone elses links is NOT right. 20. HEY! Stop hijacking my loud assed self promoting thread to start talking about Hitler and school shootings. This thread is solely for the adulation and praise of ME and CMHQ! Let's not forget that people! Madmatt
  21. No that is NOT true Fuerte. It is extremely bad form to post direct downlaod links to someones site and it's a real easy way to piss me off. I don't spend hours working on my website so someone else can come in and just steal my links. I don't want to get on the subject of copyrights again (it has been gone over many times in the past) but basically NO ONE has my permission to post direct links to the mods hosted on CMHQ and I think you will find that most of the other webmasters that run sites will be in agreement with that policy as it pertains to their own pages. Madmatt
  22. AND IT WAS GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah, I now proudly present to you, my adoring public, another Madmatt/CMHQ BIG ASSED UPDATE! Enjoy! What do you get? Well, 8 new Mods from Marco Bergman covering EVERY Sherman in the game! (low and High Res) Two new Mods from Fernando Julio Carrera Buil, one which gives you a nice tri-color StuG/StuH and the other is a nice PSW mod set. Juju has gone hog wild with explosions and fire as well as some awesome replacement Unidentified Unit Markers. Jonas Comba has provided a nice little winter helmet mod. For those of you that miss all the old TGN Scenarios that we had at our old address I have a new 6meg CMHQDepot zip which pretty much includes every scenario and operation (with descriptions) that were posted before the move. Its in a little easier to figure out format as well. If you want some NEW scenarios well then feast your eyes on the lastest evil RUNEPAK 7, packed full of mischief. You may be wondering what happened to the rest of Gordon Molek mods that I promised to upload. Well, the truth is that I got all confused about which ones were which and need time to get them re-organized. Coming soon are some new Stuart Mods and more goodies. Madmatt How about some teasers?
