  1. Well wonder no more as I, the one and true Madmatt have returned... Well sort of...more like just passing through and heard my name mentioned... but due to the time dilation caused by my massive talent (and ego) it took this long before I was able to reply. All cleared up now?
  2. See this post for a link to the hotfix that restores x64 OS functionality for the editors and generator. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=87769 Madmatt
  3. Sometimes we like proving people wrong. The hotfix is ready and we are releasing it for you guys right away. Simply download the file from the link below to your computer and then unzip it into your ToW-2 game folder. It should overwrite several files in your MissionEditor folder and fix the x64 issue introduced by the latest patch. These files will also be incorporated into any future official game patches. Download link: ftp://ftp.battlefront.com/pub/patches/tow2/MissionEditor.zip Madmatt
  4. Hey guys, I just wanted to give you an update on this. First off, it IS a priority for us, but unfortunately this problem seems to be more widespread than just CMSF. See below for other developers and applications which this crash is occuring: http://developer.nvidia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2861&pid=8621&st=0entry8621 http://developer.nvidia.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2739 http://springrts.com/mantis/view.php?id=1042 Nvidia is aware of the problem, and we continue to collect information and see if we can work something out on our end as well, but the problem does appear, at least at present, to have been introduced in their recent drivers. Hopefully that means that a fix is not far off. Any of you above may want to try and "roll-back" to an earlier build of Forceware drivers and see if that makes a difference. You can usually find a full list of available drivers (including beta drivers) at www.guru3d.com Madmatt
  5. Batsting, Your problem is related to one of the more annoying issues with VISTA, namely user access control (UAC). To get around it, simply right click on the game shortcut EACH time you want to run the game and select the "Run as ADMIN" option. That will allow you to save the game. Madmatt
  6. Umm, Steve didn't say anything about 1.20 coming out in a day or two. Steve said that it shouldn't be more than a day to two delay in a patch coming out AFTER CMSF: Brit is released. And even that might be a little optimisitic because I am usually the one that makes those installers and I tend to test them pretty thoroughly. Madmatt
  7. Okay, so lets do some fact checking here so we can try and properly troubleshoot and diagnose this issue which seems to be affecting at least a few people. Are you guys all getting the SAME OpenGL error? Are you guys all running 9800GT cards (which themselves are based on the 88xx core family). Are you guys all running the 182.50 drivers? What OS's are you running? With regards to the crash itself, when approximately does it occur? Immediately when a game loads up a battle? As soon as you load the game itself? Does it occur in both realtime and turn based mode? The more info we can get, we the better we can try and figure out whats going on here. Madmatt
  8. It's not all Vista users and we haven't yet figured out why most people can run it, but a few can't. I did just update the Knowledgebase with a fuller description on how to adjust this setting. Here it is, just in case any of you hear of others that have this issue: How to stop the "pausing" feature in the game when you take casualties? Some people have asked how to stop the "Auto Pause" feature in the game that occurs whenever your forces take casualties. This option is not currently listed in the games "Settings" panel, but there are two ways to adjust it. The easiest way is to run the ToW-2 configuration program which is called "options.exe" and can be found in the games folder on your computer or in the "Battlefront\Theatre of War 2", Start Menu Program Group under the shortcut called "Configure Theatre of War 2". Once that program comes up, uncheck the box called "Smart pause", then click the OK button to exit the program. Some Vista users have noticed that for some reason, this configuration program will not launch (we are investigating this issue but it's probably related to User Access Control settings in Vista). If this program will not come up, you can manually make the change by editing the game.ini file located inside the "users" subdirectory. To do this, please follow the steps below: Launch the game as normal. Now, from the Main Menu, click on the SETTINGS button. Make a change, it doesn't matter what it is, and then click the APPLY button. Now exit the game. Browse back into the "users" folder located in your Theatre of War 2 game directory. You will now see a file called "game.ini". Open that file with with any text editor program (notepad works fine) and change the entry that says "SmartPause=1" to say "SmartPause=0" (without any quotes). That should turn off the auto-pausing function.
  9. We offered a discount for existing ToW-1 owners during the Pre-Order period, which ended yesterday. That deal is now over. Madmatt
  10. For users of ToW-1, we have updated the MP system and I think that someone from 1C already posted this info, but you can make a couple of simple text edits so that your copy of ToW-1 will now connect to the updated Multiplayer Game Listing server system. Here are those edits to be made (again, this is for ToW-1 ONLY!). Users of ToW1 should change the following lines in the "mp.ini" file located in your 'Theatre of War 2\users\' folder: Change the line InetServerAddress= TO InetServerAddress=194.135.103.190 and change the line: InetServerAdressUpdate=http://files.games.1c.ru/ww2_wargame/iserver.txt TO InetServerAdressUpdate=http://files.games.1c.ru/ww2_wargame/n00.txt Madmatt p.s. I will want the guys from 1C to confirm, but I believe this system will now show BOTH ToW-1 and ToW-2 games as well. A ToW-2 game will be listed as version "1.0.0"
  11. For users of ToW-1, we have also updated that system as well and I think that someone from 1C already posted this info, but you can make a couple of simple text edits so that your copy of ToW-1 will now connect to the updated Multiplayer Game Listing server system. Here are those edits to be made (again, this is for ToW-1 ONLY!). 12. In conjuction with the new MP game listing system being deployed with Theatre of War-2, we are also implementing a more stable system for Theatre of War-1. For Theatre of War 1 users, you can access the new system by making some simple text edits as follows: Users of ToW1 should change the following lines in the "mp.ini" file located in your 'Theatre of War\users' folder: Change the line InetServerAddress= TO InetServerAddress=194.135.103.190 and change the line: InetServerAdressUpdate=http://files.games.1c.ru/ww2_wargame/iserver.txt TO InetServerAdressUpdate=http://files.games.1c.ru/ww2_wargame/n00.txt Madmatt p.s. I will want the guys from 1C to confirm, but I believe this system will now show BOTH ToW-1 and ToW-2 games as well. A ToW-2 game will be listed as version "1.0.0"
  13. The MP system is up and running. For users of ToW, we have also updated that system as well and I think that someone from 1C already posted this info, but you can make a couple of simple text edits so that your copy of ToW-1 will now connect to the updated Multiplayer Game Listing server system. 14. For people having trouble running under Vista 64x, just right click on the games shortct and select the "Run as Admin" option and see if that doesn't work. From the few people that I have seen that had a problem, doing that simple fix, allowed the game to run for them. I have played and tested ToW-2 with both Vista (64x) and Windows 7 (64x) with no issues, but I had turned off UAC in both OS's a long time ago. Madmatt
  15. Stability for me at least, during all my testing the past few months has been exceptional. With ToW, did you ever download and install the Uber Patch? For most people, that solved the stability issues in the game. Madmatt
  16. There is no need to post a warning as the Minimum and Suggested Specs are clearly stated for the game and demo. In your case, you just need to update your video card to something better. If your motherbaord is still AGP only, you could squeak by with something like a x850 but you will really need a decent PCI-E type card. Here are the specs: SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (demo and full game): Minimum system requirements: Windows XP/ Vista Intel Pentium IV 3.0 Ghz 1 Gb System RAM Video card: nVidia GeForce 6600 or ATI Radeon X800 1.5 Gb of HDD space (full game will require approx. 3.5 Gb) DirectX 9.0 compatible sound card DirectX 9.0c DVD-ROM Keyboard Mouse Recommended system requirements: Windows XP/ Vista Intel Core 2 Duo or AMD Athlon64 X2 2 Gb SYstem RAM Video card: nVidia GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon HD 3850 1.5 Gb of HDD space (full game will require approx. 3.5 Gb) SoundBlaster Audidgy 2 sound card DirectX 9.0c DVD-ROM Keyboard Mouse
  17. People often say that they installed the "latest" drivers but that doesn't really mean anything because it doesn't say from WHERE you got them. Please make sure and install the drivers currently online at www.ati.com as those will always be the very latest official drivers. The problem you are seeing is driver related and for some reason your video card isn't properly initializing OpenGL. This could be a more severe issue, but try the new drivers first (and some new ones just came out) and let us know what you get. Madmatt
  18. Right click on the ToW shortcut when you go to play and select the "Run as Admin" option and see if that doesn't do the trick for you. You will need to do this every time you play. Madmatt
  19. This isn't a forum for discussions on ToW so I am closing this down now.
  20. The shadow problem is a known issue with Nvidia cards and how they render shadows (sometimes referred to in other games as "Shadow Shimmering") and unfortunately not anything we can do to fix. This is why we advise people to disable shadows when they see such a problem manifest itself. I will make note of the other clipping issues you are reporting and see if others are seeing the same. Madmatt
  21. Actually, its kind of the opposite, Nvidia cards based on the 88xx fvamily seem to hate CMSF or at least their drivers do. We have tried to eek out every bit of performance so far but their are issues that lie within the nvidia drivers that are still causing performance to be lower than expected (but still playable). Perhaps future driver releases from nvidia will finally clear this up. I have also bee doing some testing myself with a 3rd party tool called "nHancer" to see if combinations of settings can help. I am not ready to comment officially on that as yet, but you might want to experiement with nHancer and see if you can increase performance. nHancer is a tool that allows you access to usually hidden advanced features of your Nvidia card. Madmatt
  22. Try and update your ATI Catalyst drivers. Current version is 8.12 and should be downloaded right from www.ati.com See if those make any difference. Madmatt
  23. You didnt say if this was with saved games or not but remember that with each new version of the game, older save games are NOT always compatible. This means that you will have restart existing in-progress games from the begining. Madmatt
  24. Expect the news within the next week!
  25. Hev and MichaelU, While the patch is able to usually automatically locate your CMSF install folder, you can change the destination path. What I want you to do is set the patch to install into a totally new folder. Once its completes manually copy the entire contents of that patch folder and paste them into your current CMSF folder. Now, this is just a test, because the problem with doing it this way is that all the new shortcuts that the patch installer creates will still point to the, now, wrong location. I just want to see if you can manually copy the files and get it to work or if you still get that copy error message. Also, do me a favor and check your read/write permissions for the CMSF folder itself, not just the exe file. Make sure it is NOT set to Read Only. Madmatt
