1. OK I want details! This has me going as it "should" be the eastern cities like Toronto and Montreal and Ottawa first. (just because we are closer to Maine) Did your brother get his in the regular Canada Post mailed to his door? I'm curious because this sounds odd and if I'm not mistaken it is the first public post of CM officially arriving in Canada Congrats!! to your brother now where's MINE ????!!! -tom w
quote:
Originally posted by Kevin Peltz: My brother just got his copy today, here in Prince George, BC. I live ten minutes away- no joy for me yet...

------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 2. I know of no orders in Canada yet I too am waiting... Hopefully this week somtime beyond that and then things will be getting desperate -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 3. WOW thats GREAT!! I hope that will mean maybe some extra money hire some top of the line graphics artists (maybe like some of the folks who worked on Graphics for Myth or Panzer Elite) so the Combat Mission and CM2 can have more Eye Candy and really state of the art 3D graphics. YES the underlining code and game engine are new revolutionary and the code does not crash or cause crashes at all it is VERY solid code and it is very cool in its own right BUT, I would like to see some REAL 3D eye candy in the game, similiar to games like Myth II and Panzer Elite. Myth II is particularily visually stunnning. Keep up the good work! And for the record yes, I think you should hire Colin (ColCoolJ) as a part time contractor as is mods are inspired and VERY good. Thanks again BTS I'm glad things look so profitable!!!! -tom w
quote:
Originally posted by Big Time Software: Yup, it is a bit of good news and bad news. The good news, of course, is that Combat Mission 2 is going to happen The bad news is that the MUCH higher than expected demand has caused us to run out of stock. We had made some "rosey" sales predictions (or so we thought!) and they were blown away by a factor of about 5 or 6. We started another production run about 3 days after we started shipping, but the planned two months worth of stock was wiped out this weekend. We have the fastest production cycle possible going for us, extra costs included NOTE!!!!! Contrary to what the CD Mag blurb says the delay is about one week. I've already sent a correction in to them and hopefully they will fix it soon. I have no idea where they found "one day" in the press release we sent out Steve

------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 4. I guess for the record I prefer the Allies, any flavour. Mostly I suppose because all my 2D board game wargaming friends liked the Krauts as I was growing up playing war Games. They always said "here, Tom you be the Russians again, and I'll kick the snot out off you to prove Germany should have won the war if Hitler had not be such an idiot!" So I still prefer the Allies Hell they won didn't they? -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 5. Ok Now I'm lost.... "Matrix Games (www.matrixgames.com) announced today that over 6000 downloads for Steel Panthers World At War were recorded in the first 48 hours. "The public response has been incredible. Over 6000 downloads in two days and what is even more amazing the game download size is over 310 MB!" stated Daniel Heath Media Relations of Matrix Games. Joe Osborne Director of Completive Play said "We are overwhelmed by this display of support from the wargaming community. We will be announcing a very special event in the next few days. We are all VERY excited" How is the CM community any differnent from the 6000 wargame fans who downloaded 310 megs of a free game (in its first 48 hrs) that may not be as good as CM but MOST certainly appeals to a similiar market segment. Manual? Well for SPW@W the manual is a digital file that can be printed out. The CM manual is also been reported to now be a ripped downloadable .pdf file which can be printed out. If CoolColJ did download an illegal copy of the game is he really such a bad guy if indeed he has already paid BTS for his copy on route? Its not his fault the game was pirated and posted. I think he's got a bum rap on this one even if he did (and it has only been alledged) download an illigitimate copy. -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 6. BUT did he BUY the game and is waiting for his order to arrive? I assume Colin did buy the game and it hasn't arrived yet. Well it may be a moot point, BTS has his money, he has the game and now he says he won't post here anymore and I suspect he may no longer be interested in sharing his new mods and textures. I don't blame him. -tom w
 7. This is why BTS says we can't download online. -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

[This message has been edited by aka_tom_w (edited 06-25-2000).]
 8. With reference to the CoLCoolJ download to Australia situation I suggested "humbly" on 04-10-200 that there would be a few like colin who would know how and where to find this game to download it online, I'll bet he would not have done what he did if he could have got his original game faster or at the same time as all those that got theirs in the the U.S. -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 9.
quote:
Originally posted by Formerly Babra: aka_tom, I was going to post the same thing, but since I don't have the game yet, thought I'd better wait and see if it wasn't in there already. Industrial tiles, cranes, warehouses, factories, docks, would be great.

Yeah cranes and stuff like that EXACTLY ! I like the other idea posted earlier that BTS could sell us an Urban Renewal Upgrade kit or patch or collection of NEW cool tiles for the editor. Maybe hire someone new on a partime contract basis to work on it, I'm sure there are guys out there like CoolColJ (Colin) could whip off these new tiles and a mod pac of textures working WITH BTS (under contract) he could make these new tiles and BTS could sell them as a City Mod pack before CM2. (trying to avoid the whole CoolColJ download controversy issue here) -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 10. I would like to see some way to recreate a an industrial area, yes a railyard would be nice but how about an oil refinery or alot of warehouses? Some buildings that could look like large factories. I think things like this will be required for the eastern front CM2 for sure. How about wooden and/or concrete dock tiles to go with the beach tiles for amphib assaults? I feel terrible I do not even have the game yet and now I wnat MORE out of the scenario editor... I'm terrible I know but thanks for listening -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 11. Yes the cows in the fields would be a really nice touch! It has been explained that cows, if they were sprites (individiually) would burden the cpu unnecessarily. OK, that they would, So how about TILES of cows in pastures, they are just tiles like grass tiles but like trees they have 2D images of cows on them. If there was heavy shelling in the cow pasture it could turn into a tile with cow bodies in 2D (no blood, in keeping with the CM credo) lieing on their sides near shell craters. there could be tiles with MANY MANY cows in the pasture and tiles with just a few cows in the pasture. That way you could manage your hurd and spread them around. AND castles, we need buildings that look like castles or some way to put some "wall" or building tiles together to form a castle. I think castles or things that can be combined to make castles are a MUST. just a few suggestions. Thanks -tom w
quote:
Originally posted by TinMan: Dead Cows!! I've seen lots of photos of the fighting in Normandy and there were alot of dead cows and horses to take cover behind. Heck, in SPR they even had dead cows!!

------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

[This message has been edited by aka_tom_w (edited 06-25-2000).]
 12.
quote:
Originally posted by Reddog: Good idea with 1 little floor... the manual has been ripped as well. 13. Hi Folks here's a web site that shows 998 downloads but it has NO reviews and no ratings: Please (if you don't mind) direct your comments opinions and reviews of this GREAT game to this site: http://www.macupdate.com/info/36886.html I admit I posted sniperscopes GREAT review there because I thought the reviews list should start out with something really well done like his review. (all in an effort to promote CM, I hope snipercope does not mind) thanks -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 14. "I then sent in about 10 air attacks per side" Did you say 10 per SIDE? I never occured to me that the Krouts might be able to call in air strikes as well as I figured by this time in the war the air over Europe was OWNED by the Allies. But that sure does help for play balance so you are saying both sides can be given air strikes in the scenario editor? Wel I must be an idiot because I figured only the Allies would have the capability. GREAT! I can't wait to play with air strikes Bombs Away! -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 15. Has anyone heard of or seen any friendly fire from airstrikes. When you call an air strike, is it possible for the airstrike to hit friendly AFVs? Has this happened to anyone? -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 16. I had a feeling it was going to come to this again. (re: previous post) This thread is now sure to be locked up soon... Lets all just get back to the game at hand. Its a great game and all kinds of people like Keith and thomasJ can play it and have fun with it. Why don't we re-focus on the game and how it works and WHY we love it so much. -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 17. Well I must admit as a Techy my first reaction to the thread title "Editor jams!!" was to think NO not a bug already? What has this person done to Lock up or freeze the editor? Well I must be getting old... I thought if it was Jammed it was frozen or locked up... but no I'm relieved to hear (even though I don't have my game yet) that the editor is an AMAZING piece of programing wizardry. -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 18. I predict this thread will be locked soon.. However before it is I wouldn't be a true blue Canadian if I did not point out that while back packing around the world (and this is MY personal experience) I met more than a few American back packers who were so proud to be Americans they stiched Canadian Flags on their back packs. Is this a rumour or and urban Myth? NO. It happens all the time so that as travelers these individuals can be greeted and welcomed as Canadians, friendly, neutral and with almost not historical political baggage. If this is not a testament to anti American sentiment outside the U.S. I don't know what is. And as a Canadian this is "sort of" flattering -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 19.
quote:
Originally posted by SuperTed: I (using Explorer 5) have attempted to email my set-up to my opponent (using Netscape). I use the standard procedure (save to PBEM folder, open email, attach to email, send) that has worked fine with another opponent. In this case, however, I am told that the set-up text is found only in the body of the email, NOT as as attachment. Any help would be greatly appreciated. SuperTed

Hi I too have had this problem with the Gold demo when sending files from Netscape (I was Sending from a Mac) the party receiveing them would indicate the file was embedded as test in the body of the e-mail. One way to deal with this is to Zip the files. Or compress them some how. or use two Microsoft (no they were NEVER monopolistic ) e-mail products, Outlook Express seemed to work no problem but Netscape caused problems. I was sending files Via Netscape Comunicator 4.7 on a Mac and they were always embedded in the body of the e-mail. Savy computer users can cut and past the appropriate part of the text embedded in the body from the e-mail to a word-pad or simple text file and then save that file and then tell the game in to open that PBEM file. hope that helps. -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Juju: Sure I'm eager. ........ Okay, so it's only 2D, but come CM I'll have my first map ready within days! Have fun! I thought I was crazy, running first shot hit firing tests by lining up StuGs and Shermans in CE at 314 meters to see what head on 5 vs 5 tanks would do. My DYO scenario's are already written down on paper as map layouts, awaiting the arival of the full game. 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Mark IV: This forum is to "Discuss CM in general ways not covered by the other CM Forums. Pity us... we don't have the game (other than Hong Kong, it is not anywhere outside the U.S yet) and those of us who don't have the game are reading these forums like maniacs and when I see a thread like... "Quirky AI targetting and execution" I DON'T expect to see a picture of an operation that I'm hoping to play Double BLIND! with someone else (who by the way, doesn't want to see that picture either) There is a specific forum entitled "Scenario Talk " that those of us who don't have the gem are specifically avoiding so we don't see things like this. to be honest most of us are grumpy because we want the game and have not got it yet and can't do ANYTHING about it, so if this post seems a little unbalanced to you, perhaps you can understand, MOST of us don't have the game yet and are looking forward to seeing these kinds of images for ourselves first in double blind games against PBEM opponents. EVEN just saying Spoiler Quirky AI targetting and execution in the title would have been enough to warn me away from you thread. thanks -tom w P.S. 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Rother: A tank with only one track can't rotate on it's own. It will drive straight if the trackless side is free to roll. I've done it countless times on M551s and M2s to change the track or pads. If you can manage to get the trackless side stuck or hungup somehow then it will rotate but only towards the trackless side. Rother

OK.... Hi Rother Thanks for the input and experience, I had a few instances in the beta and Gold demo when I REALLY wanted one of those StuG's that had been immobolized to "just" pivot and rotate on the spot, and I was thinking "maybe" its one good track would/could pivot it toward the enemy, but after your post I must admit that Steve and Charles have had this issue correctly addressed from the begining and it is clear and simple that immobolized tanks just don't move at all or pivot or rotate, this is most certainly MORE realistic than my hair brained suggestion of pivoting on what I "assummed" might be one good track, figuring the other side would stay still, well D'oh, given half a thought I should have figured jsust like Rother said, the tank would of course roll forward, as the untracked side would be free to roll. Thanks for the post Rother... Now lets get back to the game... Fire away.. -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 23. we in canada are all watching this threadand EVERY time, (like me posting this) that this thread pops up to the top of the pile I think "who got it?" "is it finally in canada now?" "did it get here for ME today?" but no its just more posts like this one to say "not yet" ooh I HATE it when that happens! oh well now I'm just another offender in the thread of "its not here (in canada) yet" -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 24.
quote:
Originally posted by Juardis: If a tank loses a track, for whatever reason, will the main gun/turret still function properly? If it does still work, the crew will hang in there and fight it out unless it's clear they are going to die, right? (as opposed to running away like Sir Robin ). If the turret/gun doesn't work, why not? Losing a track should have no effect on firing the big gun. I did a search and didn't find the answer. I've read the manual (twice now) and didn't find the answer. Not to say it isn't out there, just that I didn't find it.

a good question.. I wonder if I might also ask if a tank has one track knocked out or has thrown one track, should it not still be able to rotate, on the spot. I know that the crew bailing out is modeled as they don't want to stay there like sitting ducks in a tank that is about to get smoked, BUT if a elite heroic crew was in a good spot and have only lost a track I would like to see the tank immbollized BUT still able to rotate (using one good track) and still fire the main gun. BUT I'm not really sure if that is really realistic? just a thought.... -tom w ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"

 25. they also say: "Because the game is fully 3D, you have to rethink a lot of what you know about wargames. The combat modeling is physics-based to a large degree; the ballistic qualities of armor and armor-piercing weapons generally determine the effects of combat, rather than an abstract combat results table. Combined with the vagaries of moving and sighting on a 3D battlefield, there is very little that is firm and fixed about a Combat Mission game. Even if you play the same scenario over again, it’s unlikely things will unfold in exactly the same manner. This can be frustrating to "min-maxers," gamers who insist on calculating to the nth degree all possible combat outcomes, but hey, that’s war. We haven’t had time to begin to explore this game fully, but our reviewer is slaving away at it even as we speak. Our first impression, however, is quite favorable. This appears to be a fascinating mix of the detail you’d find in a traditional Squad Leader-style tactical wargame with the visual appeal and minute detail you’d see in a miniatures game. If you have any interest in WWII tactical wargaming, you owe it to yourself to at least check out the demo (and of course our review will offer further information). Combat Mission is available only through Battlefront.com, www.battlefront.com, which is where you can get the demo as well. by Robert Mayer ©2000 Strategy Plus, Inc." ------------------
quote:
"Have you thanked BTS by buying your SECOND copy of CM yet?"
