The CMBS backstory basically has both sides blundering into a regional conflict neither of them wanted. They both believed that with a sufficient show of resolve the other side would back down. But neither side does. Russia would no doubt have preferred that NATO was intimidated by its show of force, NATO would have preferred to have Russia hesitate before firing on NATO forces.  I do not think *fictional Russian leader* in 2017 would willingly doom his country to assured nuclear annihilation over the fate of Kiev. So win, lose or draw the CMBS Ukraine conflict stays conventional and contained. No bombers over Moscow, no submarine launched cruise missiles fired into Norfolk naval base.

MikeyD got a reaction from -Eddie- in sell on Steam?
My (personal) thoughts on the topic. It appears whenever BFC has teamed up with a third party for CM titles the third party's commitment to maintaining the product has not quite matched BFC's own. If they're lucky they can get a year or year and a half out of 'em before they move on to greener pastures. BFC's association with Steam might be to their advantage initially, but what happens when CMRT (for example) get's classified as 'last year's game' or worse 'year-before-last's game'? Taking 30%(?) off the top of a best seller is bearable because there's plenty of money to go around. Taking 30% off the top of a long shelf life slow seller sounds like you've sold your soul to a loan shark.

Lets remember 'weather' isn't just weather. Its spotting distance, hit probability, ground conditions, light levels, even fatigue factors. If most of those parameters are pre-calculated for each action square at startup to allow for continuous gameplay then altering them significantly during gameplay would throw the whole game into confusion. Bear in mind I don't have a clue how the game actually operates under the hood, myself.

MikeyD got a reaction from Cuddles the Warmonger in Plans for Special Forces in Future Releases
I think Steve had commented somewhere that special forces kind'a lose their 'edge' when they're being used as line infantry against a prepared enemy. The whole point of special forces is to do everything BUT that. We'd have to reverse the trend for larger battles with special forces, return to the old CMSF days of scenarios involving a narrow-focus assault on a single building in the middle of a town.

Ha, I could've used that film clip 4 days ago when I did art for the BMP-4's interior including a gunner's video screen much like that.

Scenarios that were designed for the player to die valiantly in battle have a beauty all their own. If people were only into the game to win half the players would immediately quit after the first match.

Lets remember Russia's economy is about the size of Italy's and their budget is reliant on oil staying above $100 a barrel. They may be fielding BMP-4 but at the same time plain-Jane old MT-LB remains a mainstay.

One supposes F-22 would have its hands full performing fighter interceptor and deep strike missions. Using it for CAS bombing runs would be rather like WWII Germany using ME262 as a bomber instead of an interceptor.
