Feel the LOVE of the Sturmtiger.
SgtMuhammed replied to MAsta_KFC's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
They are actually pretty easy to deal with. Their low rate of fire and need for LOS means that you can pick them out and pick them off before they can get another shot off. The Russians have lots of firepower in that scenario so try "hail fire" with 122mm's that should work. -
Franko's Prokhorovka Op is now availible!!!
SgtMuhammed replied to Kingfish's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Thanks guys. Is it possible to post reviews on B&T? -
You could wrap everything in plastic. Tiger's won't attack what they can't smell. Seriously, about the only thing to do is to try to draw the Tigers in close. Find a reverse slope or heavy woods, anything that will keep them from having a long LOS.

Availabilty of air units....?
SgtMuhammed replied to Herr Kruger's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
You sure you are looking in the right place. They appear under the artillery button. [ August 06, 2003, 09:04 AM: Message edited by: sgtgoody (esq) ] -
About sounds : question to CMBB designers : )
SgtMuhammed replied to Bogdan's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I think they just record Madmatt when he has nothing better to do. I figure they can use about a quarter of the sounds he is likely to make. -
NEWBIE Question - The value of roads
SgtMuhammed replied to Lt. Stahler's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Vehicles are better able to reach their max speed on a road. They also will not bog unless there are extreem weather conditions. One of the limitations of the order system is that every waypoint causes a delay. While this is fine when you consider an order like, "move to that tree, turn east for 200 meters then look for some low ground behind that hill" it is rather unnecessary for a command like "follow this road till you get to that hill over there." Look at the info display for your units, especially wheeled and you will see a cross country rating. This really comes into effect when off road. Try racing two trucks to the same point over a fair distance. While the one with a straight path will start moving faster the one on the road will quickly leave it in the dust. -
Senario building Questions
SgtMuhammed replied to Sgt AA's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
#1 put down a flat damaged tile where you want the bridge and then put a bridge over it. #2 there is no set time for them to appear. Instead they are triggered by casualties. Battalion reserves can appear after only a few casualties, Regimental a few more, and Divisional quite a bit more. I don't know an exact breakdown. -
Which is more fun? Creating or playing?

It takes a couple of days for the actual file to be posted for download. Be patient it will be there. -
"Individual" Tanks... how common were they?
SgtMuhammed replied to Oddball_E8's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
You can find all kinds of anecdotal accounts but it was never official practice if they could help it. I remember reading an account of a platoon that was down to its last two PIIIs being dispatched to clean up some T34s that were running around in the division rear. One of the tanks crapped out on the approach march and the lead tank was forced to continue the mission alone with a squad of infantry. It happened. -
Nice to see you back my friend. Don't you owe me a turn?

As I am living here in Germany and actually seeing the terrain I have been thinking of making maps of the areas around me. They would be as accurate as I can make them. While there were no battles around here they still give a good view of what Germany really looks like and would be useful for fictional scenarios or QBs. Any interest?

Question: How accurate do you want CMAK to be?
SgtMuhammed replied to MikeyD's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I want it all. I'm a big "what if" kind of guy. Face it, it can't get any more gamey than what people already come up with for CMBB. -
The Russian T-70 Light Tank
SgtMuhammed replied to JasonC's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Yes cost had very little to do with the decision to continue production on the T70. Basically the Russians wanted to get as many tanks into the field as possible. With their support vehicle needs, trucks and jeeps and such, being largely met by imports they turned their automotive industry to weapons production. Factories that were too small to handle the heavier tanks were set producing lights and then later SP guns. The Russians were big believers in the maxim of "firepower kills." Having something that could shoot on the battlefield was better than waiting for those factories to find something useful to do. -
Any good books on Barbarossa to Berlin?
SgtMuhammed replied to MAsta_KFC's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
For a good overview of the entire thing I recomend "Barbarosa" by Alan Clark. -
WWII Night Vision - I had no idea!
SgtMuhammed replied to Three_Oh_Eight's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
That is an understatement. The current TVS for the M16 is about the size of an old (early 90s) camcorder. It has a nice image but is so unwieldy that it is next to useless when manuevering. -
Shameless shelf promotion here. Try "Model" at the Scenario Depot. People seem to like it.

Then again one of the advantages the Luftwaffe had over the Allied air forces was that they possessed the only real all weather runways. While Allied airfields were a quagmire after even a short shower they Germans could keep on flying.

2 new terrian types should be added
SgtMuhammed replied to Polish Bruce Lee's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
I wouldn't mind a dirt tile to add a little more spice to the map. -
It is a little known fact that they actually grow in patches of rushes by the shoreline. That's why you can only make one assault crossing, you have to wait for the next crop to come in.

SgtMuhammed replied to Polish Bruce Lee's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Hey Andreas, did Germans grow those yellow oil flowers then like they do now? If they did then we need a tile for fields of bright yellow grain. -
They could in CMBO but I have never seen one in CMBB.
-
Yes it was. While regular crews were expected to either head for the rear or try to help recover their tank (if it was possible) leaders were expected to find some way to keep leading. This is true in nearly every army, at least every good one.
-
So far I have been able to find any representations or even photos either. All the maps I have just have a generic "airfield" designation on them. Since it is an all weather field It would definitly have hard runways but no clue as to what it actually looked like. I'll keep looking though.

I know a little about them. They were the result of the reforms after the dissasters of 1941. The Red Army returned to a lot of the old honors and traditions that the Bolshevick revolution had declared obsolete like officer insignia and such. The title was normally one of honor for performance and did entitle a unit for priority on equipment as well as missions. For example most of the T34-85s went to the Guards first while many line units had 76s till late in the war. They were often the main blow of any operation. Not necessarily the lead unit but the one that was supposed to strike the decisive blow.
