To People Thinking of Buying CMBB
Thomm replied to Gaylord Focker's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
I will NOT buy a GERMAN version no matter what! Still thinking about how to get my hands on an English one! The store that promised me to get US originals backed off and I am cut off from the supply lines once again!! I am working on the problem, though ... Regards, Thomm PS: This has got nothing to do with CDV; I just do not want German text in the game! Turns me off like Visual Basic in German years ago ... -
Boy, that is a good idea, and simple!!! Hope it will be considered!!!!

Will we have "shockwave bubbles" back ?
Thomm replied to Pascal DI FOLCO's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Sorry, but we disagree in this respect! I, as a player, want to have all the knowledge I am supposed to have (through the eyes of my (borg)soldiers) in the clearest and most convenient graphical/interface way possible! This includes shockwaves (to me the single-most impressive graphical feature of CMBO), GRIDLINES!, Move-to-LOS for infantry and so on! Keeping this information from me is reduced user-friendliness and not a "feature", as you see it! Regards, Thomm -
New Armor Commands (Beginner pics)

Uh-Oh! I think we have the Mutha of all Spoilers right before our eyes!!!! -
Another mod (country) heard from
Thomm replied to Gordon's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Amazingly beautiful! I only wish that the work of George-III would have some influence on you modders! It is sooo unnatural for two surfaces that share a common edge to be of the same brightness (side upper hull and rear upper hull, for example.) Apart from this (matter of taste): photo perfect! Regards, Thomm -
I would appreciate it if there was a visible difference between those types of craters to avoid the trial-and-error part of path plotting to craters!

How are 450 - 500 Mhz machines holding up?
Thomm replied to Herr Kruger's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
This thread should be of interest for the developers, too, so I will add my specs: Celeron 466 128 MB Matrox G400 (16MB) Played only the demo so far! Yelnia required the following settings: <ul>[*]Trees off[*]Doodads off[*]2-men display With these settings, the frame rate was acceptable and they are optimum for issuing orders, anyway! To review the most theatrical scenes during playback I switch on trees and doodads occasionally! Regards, Thomm -
Something to learn while waiting for CMBB
Thomm replied to Ari Maenpaa's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Ha! Easy one! At the air condition on the engine roof! -
Okay, good explanation! Maybe I gave up on it to quickly! Still voting for Move to LOS for infantry, though, especially since people are getting used to the Move to Hull Down command for tanks, which I consider immensly useful! Thanks for the advices, Thomm
-
HeHe, that certainly shows some class!
-
Exactly why I considered Move to Contact a useless command! And a good suggestion to change it for the better!! Also, I vote for a Move to LOS command for infantry, similar to the Move to Hull Down command for tanks! Death to micro-management of MGs, mortars and FOs! Regards, Thomm

Ultima Online Screenshot Utility! Maybe somebody knows the URL to download it! Regards, Thomm

Hi New Yorkers!!!! If all is going well I will attend the New York City Marathon in the beginning of November!!!! I would be thrilled to meet some NYC CM-ers!! Is there any chance we could get in touch?! Regards, Thomm

How many from Europe are buying from the US of A?
Thomm replied to Manx's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
My entire wargaming vocabulary is in English and I am getting nervous when I suddenly read words like "Durchschlag" where I saw "penetration" for YEARS! It is like the localized versions of Windows! Instead of terms you were familiar with for years you are suddenly confronted with new terms (albeit in your mother tongue) that sound strange and unfamiliar (Visual Basic in German!! That really was too much!!) This may not hold true for Grogs, but I am none. Add in the manual and the US soldier on the CDV cover (which is not even aesthetically pleasing) and my decision to wait for my software store to import the US original becomes justified!! Terrain analysis techniques
Thomm replied to MOREpheenPleeeze's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Nuts! -
TO POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS IN VIENNA: I emailed a certain game store close to U3 Neubaugasse on the subject and they replied that they would import the US version!!! Regards, Thomm
-
Is this true??? It hurts!!!
-
Anybody knows how this compares to the available airplane bombs??
-
Thanks for the encouraging info! The size of maps/battles concerns me not primarily with respect to hardware, but to user time constraints, that is, big map = lot of distance to travel = many turns necessary, many units = many orders!! Never played the huge scenarios of CMBO for that reason! Regards, Thomm
-
Sorry if this has been asked before, but is the map size and the number of units in the demo scenarios representative for the full game? I am asking because my computer (Celeron 466, G400) runs the demo scenarios at an acceptable speed (of course at the lowest graphics settings, which I do not mind) and I hope that is the case with the full game, too!! The number of (Russian) units in Yelnia is about the maximum I am ready to handle, too! Will this be a problem with the full version?? Regards, Thomm
-
Yelnia - First Attempt as Allies. Total Allied Victory with 31(!) casualties suffered! After winning the long-range gun duel there is no need to even move own infantry in this scenario (apart from mopping up in the last turns)! Tankers life is that much easier without Panzerschrecks! Thank you very much! Thomm
