  1. Loved it. Loved them all so far. Have you ever wondered about how much your air support pilot laughs as he's pulling away...? I'm sure I've heard one saying "Plan THIS sucka!"
  2. Count me in. I'm telling you, there's going to be so many of the buggers against the wall we'll have to use Hadrians.
  3. I think this is my favourite. Possibly with the lines: "But why are you here?" "Atmosphere." But hell, don't let me thinking I'm funny put you off doing these, I'm loving them.
  4. This is likely to be offset by me buying a copy for every friend or acquaintance so that I can casually mention it every couple of minutes.
  5. 'How to drive a tank' by Peter Caddick-Adams, Military historian </font>
  6. It helps that I've just had killed my opponents trucks with MG fire in a turn so the sound is still fresh I think.
  7. That made me laugh like a drain, thank you. The sounds effect, the script and the icons - all brilliant.
  8. Dear Santa, I've been a good boy this year, well, there was that whole schoolgirl thing but I'm sure that's water under the bridge. You wouldn't hold that against a fella would you? Besides, I looked good in that uniform. Anyway, for christmas this year I would really really really like a nice computer and ToW and CM:SF and a new car and a nice holiday and a new job and everyone in the world to be friends. Yours in anticipation, Other Means.
  9. I believe this was the major tactic used by the Israelis against man launched ATGM's, so I think it will be simulated.
  10. I don't know if it's going to be standard issue in '07, but will CM:SF feature the N Strike Longshot?
  11. I'm wondering how you will be able to order area fire at all, given relative spotting. IOW, as the player you're in command of the entire battle, so know what everyone sees and therefore where to aim area fire. Is this realistic? As implemented in CMx1, obviously not. So will there be chain of command delays for area fire, similar to that for arty described in the arty thread? Steve?
  12. Although I'm generally in agreement with you, this has been addressed many times by the devs. The good news is, they seem to be 95% sure we can have it - yay! But another thread about it really isn't going to make a difference.
  13. I bought the full game as a friend of mine was a beta tester and we were going to have some games while waiting for CMx2 to come out. I never even finished the first battle. I just wondered why the hell I was putting myself through such a painful UI and orders mechanism when CM was right there waiting. Note to self: 10 Download the demo before you buy 20 GOTO 10
  14. God, I hope not. Combat should never be fair. For me the whole purpose of this game will be to see how one can fight a conventional enemy in an asymmetric manner to counter their superiority in technology and equipment. And that means real world political-military objects are present; such as causing a western army casualties having more effect on VPs, forcing western army to fight in politically sensitive areas (populated residence, mosques etc), getting hard kill on their AFVs. This is what any decent Syrian commander would seek to do – so why would we not want this modelled in the game? If we don't reflect these real world issues that face military commanders then why simulate this combat at all - bring on the space lobsters! </font>
  15. Playing the US in that scenario sounds desperately dull. Shepherding your guys to absolutely preserve them can get really, really boring. It reminds me of Commando and its ilk where you get the pleasure of re-starting over and over due to one stupid oversight, then doing it again because of another. IRL then of course you'd take every precaution but to pass some time because TV stinks? Nah. I hope the back-story allows for US casualties to stop this and the scenario design allows for a fairer fight than what's expected here. I see both things happening hopefully. Of course, I could always play the Syrian side, but where's the big toys? Well done, most people go the other way quickly, and further to the exit. Good to see a sensible choice being made.
  16. Will the guys lower down the chain be able to call on the platoon and company support *quicker* than guys higher up the chain? i.e. If the company mortar platoon is tasked to Easy company but a higher level FO has a target, wouldn't they have to go through more steps than the Easy company guys? I guess what I'm trying to establish is if the response times are a decreasing speed hierarchy, with the FO's at the top and the grunts at the bottom, or whether various assets can be more closely tied to differing levels within that hierarchy, which would seem more realistic to me.
  17. I guess because you can't see the lower hull, as it's turned its top towards you.
  18. I'd much prefer audio notification. If you get jumped and suddenly you've got 30 units yammering at you, well, tough. That's exactly what *would* happen.
  19. The language says one thing, the emoticons the other. How odd. How illuminating.
  20. HQs can spot while hidden in CMBO - As you haven't got the covered arc it's the main way to ensure the HQ remains undetected </font>
  21. That's certainly a lot of happy Norwegians. And what's wrong with that? BTW, any idea what (looks like it) goes spinning off one end? I'm thinking it's formed from a standing wave created from the explosion going in a line on the ground, causing precipitation in the humid air. But of course, that could be what they want me to think [ October 09, 2006, 11:50 AM: Message edited by: Other Means ]
