  1. I've registered and asked - thanks for the recommendation.
  2. Yeah, that's what I was doing here...
  3. How does one get a copy of the Phase II DVD? I'm quite willing to pay Earth money but I'll need to play first.
  4. I had the same thought as Fat Dave. We really want balanced games so if there's a selection of "pre-picked" packages then that'll hold us until we can completely review it. If we can combine packages; one from column A (Infantry), one from column B (Support) and one from column C (AFVs) then that would open it up to be a bit more fun. If that's not possible then just a selection of 6 or so packages to let us choose how to balance would do. Packages like "Urban infantry", "Light armour supported infantry", "MG heavy", "ATGs but no tanks" etc.
  5. $120?! No chance. Still get the game though I think.
  6. Does it still need CFS3? I'd love some sort of package to buy.
  7. I've got a new rig and will buy this - it was recommended a while ago but I couldn't find it. How does track IR work with it - is that worth laying out for?
  8. I don't know much about this stuff so all this is guesswork My impression though - and I'd love to hear more from anyone who knows - is that Soviet doctrine is not much changed from WWII. The tank is there to winkle infantry out of holes and to use numbers to overwhelm any AFV opposition. Hence lots of "cheap" tanks, large HE load-outs etc. To my mind this also needs less well trained infantry as they're mainly there to spot for the tanks. Good doctrine - except maybe when the infantry has Javelins. The US seems a lot more about establishing AFV vs AFV superiority. Hence the M1 and variants are heavily armoured forward with a large amount of AT ammo. This leads the infantry and arty to win the battlefield. That plus having a volunteer army means that they rely on very well trained and armed troops, with quick call-for-support. Good doctrine - except when the support is busy elsewhere. The British doctrine I don't know - but the Challenger is heavily armoured all round and AIUI is more "tuned" for shaped charge warhead weapons. Do they have a larger HE load-out? Is it more Soviet style with the tanks closer to the infantry? Is the call-for-support still on the WWII system of having an FO that "owns" the guns assigned? So is it a little of A, a little of B? Anyone know? Or would care to laugh about my conclusions?
  9. Could a Panther get through the back of a M1 at point blank? Thinking a Villers-Bocage kind of deal.
  10. I remember. Seems a lifetime ago.
  11. Fair enough. Steve has said that's one of the things they want to get in.
  12. I like if (!(typeof worldHasEnded == "undefined")) { document.write("YUP."); } else { document.write("NOPE."); }
  13. Tanks have a very detailed hit/damage model. You can see damage under the little spanner icon. It's not shown on the model if that's what you mean?
  14. Check the HTML source - quite funny. Apparently, the tunnel through the LHC is about 3cm around. So all that huge tunnel is magnets. Cooool.
  15. You know why the Higgs Bosun is called the God particle don't you? They've been looking for it for 40 years and now it's "God where IS it.". Well, the module's like that - except it will be out in September. Did anyone pin down the year..?
  16. I went tonight while it woke up. There were loads of cherry pickers with little enclosures on with people playing instruments in - then it shook itself and stood up. It looked round at the audience then started walking down the waterfront spouting steam and foam. Loved it. It doesn't really walk though, it's on a special cherry picker itself - looks damn good though.
  17. This is similar to CM1's "see all targets". Don't feel you're along in missing this I've been very busy lately and I'm waiting for my copy of Photoshop to arrive (you try making a compelling business case for having a £200 piece of software on your home machine when you're not a designer ) but after that I'll try and whip something up to show how we might get as much info into the icons as possible. This would just be for our own amusement of course.
  18. Yep. This idea was kicked around a while back and while it's a good one I think (IIRC) it was put on the "quite nice to have" list. Which may be the 3 or 4th list on Steve's list of lists - no one knows but him (at best ).
  19. John, just read the things you're clicking. Look for a link saying "Browse all Add-ons".
  20. You need to be strong like Bull, brave like Lion and gullible like Gruffalo. You've got to have nerves of steel, muscles of iron, a heart of gold and a knob of butter. Or just be constructive when you talk about the game - would someone want to work with you, you end up talking to the developers quite a bit. Having a military background helps as it's good to have actually done the stuff that's being simulated. A lot of us have given quite a lot to the community in terms of scenarios, mods etc. God knows how I got in. They also need to need someone - not sure they do right now.
  21. Erm, I find myself in the surprising position of supporting them. Why exactly are they like Microsoft? Have they produced buggy, insecure software, engaged in anti-competitive practices like bundling with OEMs and locking them into deals, have they undercut a paid for product with a free one to retain market share? Don't forget - MS used to be the techies poster child. It was only after it acted like that, that it was seen as the anti-Christ. ISTM to be tall poppy syndrome; Google are now the most successful company so they're automatically evil. As long as they keep giving me an excellent, free service I find no reason to get the pitchforks out.
