  1. it's a gameplay issue for me. casualties reduce the amount of men in a unit, reduce the number of tanks etc. but with the small number of FO's (especially for allied in CMAK) if the dice lands wrong a whole arm of battle is *removed* instead of *reduced*.
  2. yeah, i've been ready to ask a few opponents not to do this...but then i decided to just read the mail after seeing the turn. quick turnaround, good people, willing to lose* = prefect opponent. * may not get the chance.
  3. *%^$£@* that's a lot of firepower to lose. it's not just him, it's TRP's & the fact a whole arm has been removed. a drop in ammo available would be more fair.
  4. i've just started a game & i'm doing the setup. i'm defending an assault. i've bought a lot of TRP's etc. we're playing with 20% casualties. i don't seem to have an FO. have i had a brain fart or has the casualties killed him?
  5. DFHE & suppressing fire. lots of it. also, don't attack straight at them. go to the side into cover, then attack them from there. the defenders will need to turn 90 degrees to the suppressing fire plus you wil have cover. any time you can get 90 degree or more seperation on an enemy you can break them pretty quickly.
  6. very true. and seeing them do it made me want a sip. as a supplement to all the above, i'd say in defense keep your TH teams in a tile of brush adjacent to the flags. you can generally keep the infantry away from the last couple of meters & have your opponent tank rush the flags in the last few turns. if you keep your TH's hidden until the tanks are right on top of them they can kill anything. use them as your very last resort, and don't attempt to move them. they can turn a defeat into a small victory.
  7. i've a friend who's an avid gamer i'm dying to get into CM. he's tried it on his own a few times but never got past the setup. every time i talk to him he wants to try it & thinks it sounds brilliant but is just a bit daunted by it. if you hook your friend with a scenario, let me know so i can do the same.
  8. how about a filter on date? grey out the units that can't be selected. and how about a "best tank plus gun to counter best enemy tank at date" function. don't let it get in the way of playing mind.
  9. 5 years? look at some of the games now from more than 4 foot away & they look real. who knows, maybe next year when CMX2 comes out.
  10. "Don't Jam My Vickers MG" damn you sand digger, now i've got Dire Straits going through my head.
  11. Grenades definately travel further down hill.
  12. the main gripe i have about it is that it's possible to throw the charge 30m when there's an intervening infantry unit, which stretches credulity a bit.
  13. yeah sounds good to me too. kind of "Quick Scenarios". what i also think would be good is to plot a movement order & then the AI would choose the route for you. i can't remember the name of the higher level game that BFC did, the one about Arnheim, but a similar idea to that. you say "best speed" or "quick as possible" & the AI does the rest. it'd take a lot of the drudgery out of playing. combine that with SOP's & you've got a very powerful dynamic, i'd imagine. very much closer to RL command decisions.
  14. it's possible that come the rapture, the FP model will be on an individual basis. if a soldier can see an attractive target he will fire. therefore this level of abstraction is not needed. this would mean then giving them orders about suppressive fire etc, which i'm in agreement with YD about.
  15. as my old mum used to say: more Moon and Madmatt ye shall see patch on it's way it shall be. agreed, she was certifiable. but more admin spotting usually means less other things for them to do. is it coming, is it huh? is it?

  17. thanks a lot Jason. if you run out of bandwidth/space i can host the pictures for you.
  18. yes, excellent report. any chance of an overhead shot with contacts indicated please?
  19. i think having it in Beijing would be a condition i'd insist on too. "honey you think we should, you know, get married?" "suuuure, in BEIJING." intrusive laugh track, pistol fingers, mug to camera. anyway, good luck!
