  1. Hi guys,

alrighty, below is the changelog for patch v1.10. Keep in mind, and just to make sure everyone is on the same page on this: while this v1.10 page is included in the Commonwealth Forces module, it will also be available separately as a patch for the base game, for free. The v1.10 is fairly unspectacular and consists mainly of bug fixes and improvements, and only very few new "features" (one of the exceptions being a much easier way to use flavor objects in the editor, see below).

In addition to that, the Commonwealth Forces module basically more than doubles the amount of available units for CM:BN, adds dozens of new scenarios and QB maps, and two really awesome campaigns.

    So, without further ado:

Combat Mission Battle for Normandy v1.10 features/changes

    * Made changes that should reduce the occurrence of Out of Memory crashes.

    * Allowed for the use of up to 4GB of RAM, dependent on the user's operating system and settings.

    * Corrected a problem where units driving near ditches would bog too easily.

    * Soldiers make better use of demo charges against vehicles at close range.

    * When vehicles bog down, it's now more likely to be temporary.

    * Corrected a problem where gunners would sometimes aim too low and repeatedly hit intervening ground short of the target.

    * Computer-player troops automatically take additional stored weapons and ammo with them when dismounting from vehicles.

    * Halftrack gunners will "sit" when the vehicle buttons up.

    * Dispersion pattern of mortar shells is more realistic.

    * Dismount command may be given to multi-unit groups.

    * In campaigns, units won't go into the next battle without a leader due to a previous casualty.

    * Enemy mortars are a little easier to spot when they fire.

    * Corrected a problem where frame rate could affect the cover offered by buildings.

    * Vehicles are more likely to button up when they take a crew casualty.

    * Computer player is more effective at breaching walls and bocage.

    * It's more difficult to suppress the occupants of a bunker.

    * Targeting an enemy unit by clicking its icon works properly when some LOS is blocked.

    * Corrected a problem that caused deployed soldiers to move around too frequently, especially inside trenches and buildings.

    * Corrected some problems with soldiers moving across narrow bridges.

    * Corrected a problem that caused halftracks sometimes to refuse to move across wall breaches.

    * Pre-battle intelligence icons don't slowly fade during setup.

    * Scenarios load faster when 3D Texture Quality option is set to Balanced or any faster option. If you notice any decrease in visual quality, simply increase this option one level higher in quality.

    * New editor feature lets you move flavor objects around more easily. In map preview, ALT-click on a flavor object (Option-click on the Mac) and the next map click will place the (previously) ALT-clicked object at the location of the second click.

    * Single barbed wire units remember their facing in the editor.

    * In the editor, when units are purchased they will try to set up by default inside friendly setup zones if the zones have already been created.

  2. BFC is about to release CW and we have no clue what Improvements there are with the new module.

Just to make sure we're all on the same page: there are no improvements with the new module. The module includes the v1.10 patch, which includes improvements to the game as a whole, but there isn't anything specific to the module as such in terms of improvements.

You may have meant the above, but it probably doesn't hurt to make sure this distinction isn't glanced over.

We will release the changelog this weekend for you guys.

  3. You were asked to reinstall because you are missing the runservice.exe file if I remember correctly (correct me if I'm wrong). And that is exactly the right thing to do because the runservice.exe file is usually installed together with the game, and if you do not have it, then something went wrong during your install. This could be some security software acting up and not liking that file (which is an eLicense specific file and not related to the game, btw), or some other Windows issue.

Usually, if you are missing that file, there is some underlying issue with your PC security configuration which may be worked around for the short term by sending you the runservice.exe file, but it may rear its ugly head sooner or later, so a fresh reinstall usually is recommended in any case.

So, summing up: you received support quickly (within minutes of your inquiry in fact) and you were told the right thing. Let us know if it works or not by responding to your ticket at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and we can then try other things to see what's up with your system.

  4. I thought they said that LOS wasn't changed beyond the thing with units shooting the cover they are behind. I will be rather disappointed if moving tanks can still spot infantry (in cover) faster than the infantry can spot them. 9/10 times it doesn't happen, but it seems almost an impossibility that one time it does.

Are you sure that this 1 in 10 occurance isn't the C&C engine kicking in (i.e. your infantry is out of contact?).

Also, there are cases where *some* soldiers may spot a vehicle, but others may not be able to see it, and it takes time for it to actually "appear" to you, the player (so you can react and issue orders to the unit cohesively). Individual soldiers *may* react to the vehicle already earlier, though (TacAI).

Contrast this with the quick C&C for the vehicle crew. Once one crew member has spotted just one infantry soldier (out of how many?) through vision ports, being buttoned up, or even magnified viewers, then the entire crew will know it almost instantly.

  5. We are currently in Final Candidate testing mode. This means testing stuff like installers and what not. This stuff has become more complex these days, plus the fact that we now are supporting the PC and Mac platforms also means more testing. The release includes a total of 8 (!) packages, the module, the bundle, the 1.10 patch for the base game, and a new updated demo... times two (for PC, and for Mac).

So, we're working on it as quick as we can.

In the meantime, I am preparing the Commonwealth Forces module manual for the web viewer right now, and will probably be able to release it tomorrow. If you behave, I may just throw in the 1.10 changelog for good measure... we'll see. ;)

  6. Very annoying way to get our mods. Once you have signed up and accepted the agreement that should be the last time in my opinion. Having said that I am glad the repository is there.

The agreement can be different for each file because mod authors can change the default agreement if they wish to, so you have to sign it for every file you download.

  7. lets stay on the ground here and not pack something ugly with nice paper. moon, you remember old CMMODS site? the new greenasjade´s CMMODS site? that is how you present large volumes of search results.

since the BFC site layout change the quality of browsing was reduced in my view. the theme is overly complex and the entries in the repository are simply to big and black/orange...i mean who thought that up? no insult here but rly?

We never had anything to do with the CMMODS sites, so I am not sure how you are comparing the quality of browsing between the two.

The Repository we're using is a component coded by a third party. It is what it is and integrates well with the rest of the site. It's not going to change anytime soon (or perhaps anytime). Use it (for free) or leave it :)

Having said that, I never have problems finding anything. (On the other hand, I had terrible problems finding anything on the old CMMODS site. :)) Searching by author is the most difficult way to do it for the reasons explained in the FAQ/Helpdesk, because you may not know the actual AUTHOR name (which may also be different from the UPLOADER name). Search for keywords and you will usually find what you need.

  8. You could say the same about Google's search results ;)

That's a problem with ANY collection of files that exceeds a certain size. Granted, the Repository isn't offering the best interface that is possible, but it does its job, and the search function is pretty good overall.

But if you really want to make sure you don't miss a mod, you'll have to go browse through the categories page by page. That's simply how it is with search results.

  9. That can be caused by the framerate setting of FRAPS used to capture the video.

Yeah, running the game AND running the capture on the same computer eats up resources for the game. Also, processing the video after it's been recorded via video editing software can add stutter where there is none during recording, because of small incompatibilities with codecs etc.. So the result will always be little more "stuttery".

Keep in mind though that I was recording this at all Best settings at 1920x1280! :)

  10. Hey guys, if I wait until after release I won't have problems getting a hard copy of the Commonwealth module will I? I have to have one to avoid DL due to crappy internet but atm am trying to save up for a new video card. But I definitely am planning on getting it.

You won't have problems. While we do not usually reprint manuals once they are sold out, there is never going to be a shortage of DVDs to send out :)

  11. Drew, you have received responses to each and every one of your inquiries within minutes. Check your tickets at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk if you didn't get the email notifications of new replies posted. I also responded to BOTH of your emails from this morning within minutes.

The 365 days download limit is not fine print, but is mentioned everywhere you look for it (e.g. the terms and conditions or the knowledgebase or your order details in your online account). It is legal and in fact very common practice with most ecommerce stores out there.

We do not offer infinite digital storage and you do not pay for it. Which is why we're offering mail order options (in plain language: a disc by mail) AND unlike purely digital storefronts, we also place no restrictions on copying the setup files for backup and reinstallation purposes, and strongly recommend it.

You have also been advised that a) we make exceptions when your download period just expired recently (not in your case, however, it's 7 months over the limit) and B) even in these cases we offer a one-time $5 extension. The $5 covers our bandwidth cost, and you get a full year (or up to 10 downloads).

Not that you need more than one, though, because again, the setup files are free to copy and backup AND your game is in no way tied to some online account or other system that requires you to be online.

  12. I see the threads are disappearing again, are we due something?Fingers crossed the 4-6weeks release estimate was a bluff :)

Announcements have automated expiry dates. Plus, they disappear from the "What's New" list after appearing there once (but they remain visible on top of the forum(s) where they were posted.

The 4-6 weeks is standard and tested, and while we may beat it occasionally by a week or a few days (we've done it before), it's unlikely that we'll beat it by several weeks :)

  13. If you point the LOS tool on the ground (and not an enemy unit), then it's tracking the LOS to the ground. Since you are pointing the LOS tool inside a wheat field in the screenshot you have taken, and it's not possible for your unit to see what is lying on the ground inside the wheat, the LOS tool shows the LOS as blocked. That's correct.

This has nothing to do with being able to see a UNIT that is BEHIND the wheat field. Notice also that the LOS tool is not pointing to the spot you are indicating in your first screenshot at all, but to a wheat field way behind and downslope (as far as I can make out in the screens).
