  1. Mac OS X 10.6 and higher is required for Normandy to work, it won't work on 10.4.11. You'll have to upgrade your OS, sorry.

CMBO and pre-CMBN games do not work on OS X at all. They only work on OS 9+

Some people have made them work in Bootcamp I believe.

  2. Hey, I was curious since I am scared of loosing all my CMSF setup files and CMBN ones...

Do you guys know of anyway I could put said setups onto CDs? Ive already lost my CM:Afganistan setup file and dont really have the money to buy it again, never mind buying all CMSF modules and CMBN + modules aswell If I loose them.

help or advice would be apreciated!

Instead of CDs, I personally would recommend a USB stick. They're inexpensive these days, save a LOT of data and don't take up much room. And you do not need any special burning software, either.

The setup files can be copied for backup purposes anywhere you like. In fact, we strongly recommend that people do this if they only got a Digital Download (since we do not offer infinite digital storage).

  3. The v1.10 patch for the base game, CM:BN, will be made available for free in a week or two from now (tops). It will give you the same engine improvements and bug fixes (but obviously not Commonwealth, SS or LW units to play with, and none of the new scenarios and maps).

  4. One of the advantages of our digital distribution process is that it isn't tied in any way to downloads or online servers or anything. People sometimes do not realize the advantage of not being tied to some network for your gaming these days anymore :)

Setup files can be downloaded, copied, back'd up and what not as is convenient for you. Once you downloaded the setup file, and activated it, you do not need to go online ever again. As far as we are concerned, you can move to the South Pole after that and keep playing. Or Maine, for that matter :).

  5. I think it's sort of an open beta test.

Pre-orders are not a beta test, no. The logic behind making preorders "Download&Mail" is to give us a better handle on how much physical goods to print/produce. As the percentage of downloads is increasing, producing stuff like discs and printing manuals is more expensive than it used to be, so a good estimate is necessary for us to make sure we don't sink too much money into dead inventory.

So far, we usually FAR underestimated production, which is a good thing. But we will not change this principle anytime soon.

BTW, if you are in the US, the $10 discount you get for a preorder pays for the S&H. You are not paying anything more than you will pay for just the download. And you get a nice shiny disc, too (if you have a Steelbook edition of CMBN, that will look nice in the set! ;))

For out-of-US'ers, the $10 discount doesn't fully offset the S&H, but it does reduce it, at least by half or more.

Anyway, have a little patience... give the preoders guys their fun, soon enough you'll be able to play, too.

  6. I guess my questions just got lost in the flood. Sorry to repost them:

    a) Since in the BFC store CW modules is still listed as "preorder", if I buy it now will I be able to download the game right away?

    B) Is it possible to ask to stop the shipping of the physical disc?

    Thanks,

    Ricroma

    a) yes

    B) no, sorry

  7. So Moon what do we do to be able to play the Module?

Tell Norton that the file it's flagging is ok. I don't know how you do that, I don't use Norton, so you will have to check their docs or ask their support. There are certainly ways to whitelist files or folders, and/or to adjust settings what Norton should be doing with "suspicious" files (as opposed to identified known viruses). In my AV program I tell it to only prompt me and ask me what to do and not simply remove it, for example.

  8. Same here. About a minute later, a Norton (latest NIS) message popped up saying that "Suspicious. MH690.A" had been quarantined. It's from the CMCW exe file, so that appears to be the problem.

I'm in a holding pattern now and have taken no action on bringing it out of quarantine. What should I do?

(BTW, this is the first virus warning I've ever had following an installation on my system.)

There is no virus. If, during installation, you see that Battlefront.com, Inc. is the publisher, you can safely whitelist the file.

"Suspicious" means that Norton can't figure out what the file is. That's not surprising because it is encrypted (against hackers). Now, it shouldn't be flagging it because we are taking all the standard precautions to signal to AV programs that there is no virus. But crappy AV software (and IMO Norton is one of the worst) is known to ignore this.

You can also submit the file to Norton and they can adjust the virus definitions (if they feel like it).

  9. OK, now i installed the module, registered it and low and behold, all the scenarios and campaigns come up darkened out saying i have to get the module before i can play. WFT? Could someone please explain this to me

    Sounds like you installed incorrectly.

PS. Just saw your second post. Yeah, Norton can be really stupid. Especially because the game is code signed so it should really have no reason at all for acting up.

  10. I'm downloading the Mac version - maybe its bigger.

I also didn't read the whole of the mail - partially because of excitement, partially its formatted like those ads for mobile contracts. Just a big block of text. I stopped reading as soon as I knew it was no ad...

This can happen if your email program is set to text-only, I think. :(

  11. Heh, sorry . Got excite and didnt reas the whole thing. Please feel free rto delete this thread, admin.

Don't feel too bad. The record until someone posts here is about 5 minutes, anyway. I would delete it but someone else will post sooner or later, and it's now too late to un-announce it, anyway.

The other thing is that even if pre-order downloads are enabled, you still have to pre-order (and e.g. pay for shipping) in order to get it. People who do not want that (and want just the downlod) will have to wait for the official release (which is planned within the next 36 hours).
