  1. I see, but if we are told what download only costs. I can make a decision now on whether to get a hard copy or wait for download only.

Here is a price breakdown (returning customers will recognize this because it's always been the same principle since we started doing digital delivery back in 2007):

Commonwealth Module, download only - $35

Commonwealth Module, mail only - $35 plus S&H

    Commonwealth Module, download & mail - $45 plus S&H

Commonwealth Module PREORDER, also download & mail - $35 ($10 off) plus S&H. If you are in the US, the $10 discount basically means free shipping.

Normandy & Commonwealth BUNDLE, download only - $65 ($55 + $35 if purchased separately, so you do save a bundle ;))

Normandy & Commonwealth BUNDLE, mail only - $65 plus Shipping&Handling

    Normandy & Commonwealth BUNDLE, download & mail - $75 plus S&H

Normandy & Commonwealth BUNDLE, preorder (also download & mail) - $65 plus S&H. Again, you save $10, which means basically free shipping domestically (and half the S&H for EU and other customers)

And just to round out things - keep in mind that the S&H is per order, not per product. So if you order more than one item to be delivered by mail, any additional item adds only $1 to the S&H. So if you preorder the module and one book, you'll pay $11 in S&H (domestically), not $20.

  2. If $20 is actually going to Battlefront, then I might preorder. I suspect this actually goes to the delivery company (DHL). Can anyone confirm? Also, customs tax was a further £20 on top of this for CMBN Steel Box. Are we liable for further taxes this time, too?

The $20 includes both postage as well as handling. So part of it goes to the postal service, the rest to us to pay for the warehouse employees and expenses.

There will be no taxes for the Commonwealth module because it is shipping out of our warehouse in Germany (i.e. inside the EU).

  3. I think the $ 20,- postage to Europe is much too steep. Like to think of it as a forced donation to Battlefront and company...Didn't prevent me from ordering though.

The S&H cost reflects the cost (in Euros) that we have for our European warehouse operation. Nobody would be happier than us to see that decrease, but we have to charge what it costs (or increases the prices for everybody).

  4. I was going to Pre_order but saw the $20 postage to UK and then remembered the joy of customs, so after seeing the response above I will just have to go down the download route... Good to know it will be with us soon.

There is not going to be any customs because we're shipping out of our EU warehouse in Germany. So this is a "domestic" shipment if you're within the EU.

The only exception is if you order one of the Nafziger books with it. Books always ship out of our US warehouse (we do not stock them in Europe).

  5. Hi Erwin,

    thanks for the feedback.

    1) The terms are white on a grey background. If you can't read them, then your display brightness/contrast is too high :) There is a link to the full terms page that you can click to read the whole version if you have difficulty reading the abbreviated version.

    2) You missed the warning. It's in the very same email that you quoted, right after your quote:

"PLEASE NOTE: If you ordered a Pre-Order item, the download link above will not become active until the game is released. Please save this email as you will need that link above to download your game at the proper time."

  6. The announcements should always come with a forum post, because I (and many others, I guess) rarely check the announcements themselves.

    Best regards,

    Thomm

Subscriptions for individual games are available, too, from the various game pages at www.battlefront.com (click Games from the top menu, you'll find the RSS link at the bottom, or in your browser bar).

Subscriptions for individual forums are also possible - check out Thread Tools in the upper right corner of a forum page, or your RSS link in the browser.

  7. Well if your going to use it in your business then I'm sure $400 is worth the price but just for the occasional modding then and thats it then I personally don't see a problem.

The law, plus common sense, are very much opposing your personal views. So do we at Battlefront.com.

  8. The online manuals are meant to give you a fancy preview and possibly to look up something specific (e.g. if there is an updated version), they are not meant to be read page to page. They are mainly pre-release (for pre-order customers, or if you're waiting for a demo or full version to finish downloading ;)). As others pointed out, all of our games (and most demos) come with PDF manuals.

Guerrilla Marketing Campaign - Good for All of Us - How YOU can Help

We understand the concept and have had similar offers over the years. We have not, and still do not, want to participate in such a campaign, either officially or unofficially. Based on our experience and knowledge of our market, we do not feel this is a good fit for us.

    I am closing this thread.

  10. Oh, and a "403 forbidden" CAN happen (though it's rare) if your download manager is set up to open way too many simultaneous connections. Most download managers use 3 or 5 or so, and that is fine (and it does speed up the download tremendously), but if you set it to, I don't know, 100 or something like that, you *may* get a 403 thrown out. I've only seen it a couple of times in the 5 years or so we're using our global content delivery network (it's not a server but a server cloud, the new "in" term I guess).

  11. The Steelbook Limited Edition was a special situation because it would not have been possible to stock up both the US and EU locations at the same time. So we had to ship all preorders from one place, which naturally was the US location.

The recent release of Strategic Command WWII Global Conflict GOLD already was handled differently (i.e. hardgoods are shipped from both the EU and the US warehouse). And it looks so farthat Commonwealth will be the same. This means that there will be no extra duties nor VAT or anything of that sort.

Mind you, the UK import tax is something that applies for ANY ex-EU import to the UK above 15 GBP (or so... I don't recall the exact value right now). But only the UK has this (as far as I know). For other countries, usually you only have to pay your local VAT (the % of which depends on what your country's VAT is at right now), if even that; it's a bit of a hit and miss as far as your local customs is concerned. We do have to declare ALL shipment values correctly, but often enough your local customs may not pay attention or not care etc.

We WILL be sending out future releases from US warehouses occasionally. This will apply to any release with a printed manual. It is simply cost-prohibitive to print manuals in more than one location these days, noone would be willing to pay for that added cost!

But Commonwealth is currently not planned to have a printed manual, so it can be produced and shipped out of Germany and the US (more or less) simultaneously.

  12. This Knowledgebase article explains what is happening:

    http://www.battlefront.com/helpdesk/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=178&nav=0

My guess is that after your recent move, you didn't update your billing address with your credit card company, and therefore your credit card is being declined because your billing address doesn't match. This extra address check (there are a couple of other things in addition to the address that are being checked, too) is for additional security for YOU, the customer (if someone steals your card but don't know your personal address, they can't use it), as well as US (the cost for fraudulant orders sticks with the merchant).

So what you need to do is either change your billing address in your online account at www.battlefront.com, or change it with your credit card company (call the number on the back of your card).

  13. Is this game available at any retailers who may have full copies or am I just stuck printing the manual if I want a hard copy?

CMBN is not being sold in retail anywhere. As with previous releases this is a deliberate decision by us and part of Battlefront's business strategy (successful now in its 11th year). CMBN will be coming to retail at some point, maybe in a year or two?

I may be making a bold assumption it was ever available with a hard copy but that's what I deciphered by the message I received.

Not in retail, but we offered a printed manual (and even a Limited Steelbook® edition) on release. (Un)fortunately, these sold our within a couple of weeks of release.

We do plan to print a new manual, btw, which would be fully updated and available with the first Normandy upgrade (not module).

  14. BTW...

First, my AVG antivirus found trojans and viruses in ePatch license..or something and in sc2.dll...

No, it didn't find any trojans and viruses (there are none). You have "Heuristic" scanning enabled (it is enabled by default) which is equivalent to "guessing". AVG then flags anything that it doesn't understand, and since our games are encrypted as a protection against hackers and it cannot decode the encryption, you get this 'false positive'.

Heuristic scanning can be useful, but it is prone to false positives. You can disable it, or if you prefer to keep it, you should at least make sure that it doesn't act automatically (e.g. by removing the file right away), but instead prompts you what to do, so you can indeed set an exception for a file or path that you know is clean (like our games).

  15. There is no 10 licenses limit. There is a 10 download limit, but that has nothing to do with your license activations.

Activations are in fact unlimited (in the sense that there is no total limit), although you can only have 2 AT THE SAME TIME.

In order to free up your license key, you have to UNLICENSE it. Our Knowledgebase at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk contains all the necessary details (as well as the game's manual, I believe); look in the "eLicense" category, or search for "unlicense".

If you cannot unlicense for some reason, then you can also request a reset from us. Go to the www.battlefront.com/helpdesk and click on "Submit Ticket". Make sure to include your license key :)
