  1. But recently I read here in the forum that bugs in CMBN won't be fully fixed until the next game about the bulge comes out (did I get that right?)

That's far from the truth. Actual bugs are solved in (free) patches. That's a very important part of our business philosophy at Battlefront. What people mean when they talk about the next game are entirely new features. And that is true... major new features are introduced with major new titles only (hey, we need to somehow pay our bills!)

Now, some people may have differing opinions on what a bug is or what a feature is. Don't let that fool you or keep you from playing the best wargame in the market! As others pointed out, check out what you get for yourself and make up your own mind: http://www.battlefront.com/demos

  2. this is not right I never have a problem before ever adding any games from battlefront

Right, it's technically not a problem with our games, it's a problem with your anti-virus program settings. If you let your AV run heuristic scanning, you have to accept certain false positives. You're asking your AV program to guess, and it will not guess right 100% of the time. You have to adjust your AV settings to make it work. On my end, I have heuristic scanning enabled as well (it can be useful), but I have set it so that it never acts without my approval (i.e. it only prompts for action), and I also have certain known programs that I know are ok whitelisted.

  3. The file is not a virus. So there is no need to do anything. If you remove the file, then the game won't run.

So simply choose to ignore it, or whitelist it, or shut off heuristic scanning. How to do this depends on what AV you are using, and you will have to contact the people who made the AV you're using for instructions (we have instructions for a few of the common programs in our Knowledgebase I think).

  4. The "Heur" in "Win32/Heur" stands for "heuristic". This basically means "guessing". In other words, it's not a known virus but something that looks iffy to the anti-virus program. This can be a useful option, but it's also prone to "false positives".

Well, guess what, the game is encrypted as a protection against hackers and the anti-virus can't decode it, so it simply assumes the worst. This happens with all encrypted games at one point or another.

You have a couple of options basically:

    - disable heuristic scanning in your AV program

    - set an exception for the program in question ("whitelist")

Contacting your AV software vendor and letting them know about this "false positive" will also ensure that they will add it to their next virus definitions and make it go away.

Our Knowledgebase at www.battlefront.com/helpdesk also has a number of details about anti-virus problems and what you can do about them.

  5. I should also say that I'm really disappointed in there being no printed manuals offered anymore...I really don't want to spend hours online looking at a pretty .pdf file or whatever...is there maybe some kind of solution here?? (No, I don't have the toner and paper for hundreds of pages....)

This isn't entirely correct. Printed manuals ARE available for most of our new releases. In fact, we are one of the few companies left over that offers printed manuals, at all. The last one for Normandy came in at a hefty 200 pages, too. However, once a manual is out of print, we usually do not reprint it anymore. The cost to keep printed manuals available months or years after release is way too high compared to the interest in them.

PS. The solution is to print yourself or have it printed for you. Our new releases include a print-friendly PDF (black text on white background) to that end.

  6. But when choosing the purchase options there is only 'Download and mail' as an option(which again says 70 dollars)

So is it 45 or 70 now?

The dropdown menu shows you the regular price, but once you actually click on it, you will see that it costs $45 (plus S&H).

(And if I were to buy it now, will the normal WW 2 Global Conflict still be DLable right now or do I have to wait till gold releases to be able to play either of them? Because half of my reason to buy it is my current boredom)

The pre-ordered bundle will be made available when the GOLD expansion is released, you cannot download the base game prior to that if you pre-order the bundle. In order to get the base game now, you would have to purchase the base game separately as a download and pre-order just the GOLD expansion (and not the bundle).

  7. I really have to add this to the Knowledgebase I guess (or it may even be already an article there, now that I think of it), because this question comes up with every pre-order sale we do, and the answer is always the same:

Pre-ordering a download (only) doesn't really make much sense. You won't be able to download it any sooner than it is released anyway. So you may just as well wait and order it once the game is out.

The main reason for pre-ordering is to offer a discount to people who do want the physical goods (the pre-order saves you $10 on the "Download&Mail" delivery option, so you can think of it as free shipping), and to help us assess how much we need to print (and to give the fulfillment house an edge on processing, too).

Pre-ordering a download doesn't really do anything for anybody :)

  8. This is a so-called "false positive". It often happens when you allow your anti-virus program to "guess" (the professional term is "heuristic" scanning). In other words, there is no virus, but some code in the executable may be vaguely similar to one, and if your AV is set to act on suspicion, then it will block.

You should change your AV settings to not act, but instead only prompt you for confirmation of what to do. Or you can set an exception to leave the file (which is known to not have any viruses) alone entirely. Or you can shut off "heuristic" scanning (it's useful sometimes, but VERY prone to false positives like that with ANY type of encrypted - aka protected - file).

  9. (It is also interesting that a 30% casualty rate was considered to be enough to "destroy" a unit)

Casualty rates in % in most sources usually relate to a formation's entire allotment of personnel, including non-combat personnel. In many cases, a typical formation does not have more than 30% combat personnel in total in its ranks (everyone else is supporting the top fighting third - i.e. transport, supply, kitchen, staff etc.).
