  1. Sorry for the necrobump here, but I wanted to find out about the horizon image in this screenshot...I take it this is a modded graphic? If so, can someone please point me to the appropriate online location for download? Many thanks!
  2. Bump away, Myles...I was wondering exactly the same thing this weekend as I was reading Hubert Meyer's history of 12th SS PzDiv Hitlerjugend. I would very much love to see a campaign centered on the fighting around Caen...preferably from the German side, but I don't know if that's gonna happen. I have mad respect for guys like Paper Tiger, GeorgeMC and so many others that put so much effort into making these fantastic campaigns! When the kids leave the house and I'm retired, perhaps I'll aspire to their level. Until then...keep 'em comin'!
  3. Ya beat me to it, Michael...yes, an absolute minimum of 100 iterations would be necessary to confidently detect true differences in behavior, based on statistical arguments. The occasional odd outcome, often spawning a "fix it or do somefink!!" response, is not what we're concerned with here.
  4. "I have no f***ing idea how to move these f***ing units around...this whole game is just horse-s**t..." Wow...compelling, thoughtful review, dude...excellent job of reviewing a simulation without apparently picking up the Manual. As of my turn watching this drivel, his video had 541 views...!!! Let's not give any more, OK?
  5. You're right, womble...Barkmann's Corner is definitely meant to be played as German vs. Allied AI if not being played as H2H.
  6. Hmmm...reminds me of a rather old, very long, and fascinating thread from the dark ages... http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=94572 Our old friend JasonC debating the forum on realism of casualty rates...
  7. Unfortunately, I'm likely to pass on the Stalingrad movie... In war...there is love... In love...there is hope... Puhleeeeeze...maybe I'm just old and surly... Fuser: Kudos for recommending the Nanking flick...it looks outstanding! That taiko drum scene is intense... In my Netflix queue...
  8. Good stuff, Bil...while I don't know the exact distance from your JagdPzIV to that buttoned M10, that seems like a rather amazing spot...no?
  9. GAAAHHHH!!! Just sat down at my desk with my morning joe (yes, I can sneak in a brief CM Forum session at work) and have now been brutally disappointed...!
  10. Got it...thanks Bil. I'm one of the many readers that learn so much from studying your great AARs!
  11. Amen, brother...well said. I go back to 1972...in my Squad Leader glory days, my copy of Cross of Iron got a much heavier workout than Anvil of Victory or Crescendo of Doom... Can't wait for Bagration...but I have to say that I'm really intrigued with CMFI...yet another great opportunity to use the game as a historical teaching tool! Great conversation!!
  12. I haven't been reading GaJ's side of the story, so I only know what you show me. I think GaJ is hosed, but I suppose he may have a few little surprises waiting for you in the villages. Another question: Looking at your 44th minute post from yesterday -- the second image of the support teams assisting with your assault...could you please summarize the C2 chain that facilitates your mortar team's activity? Are they in direct communication with an FO team, or...? Thanks!
  13. I vote for getting back on topic...don't we have enough threads on this forum about personal preferences for CMx vs. Company of Heroes??
  14. Bil, Nice work, as always -- with your pixeltruppen and with Photoshop. So GaJ's ATG didn't appear to spot your scout team when it set its eyes on the gun?
  15. Fantastic stuff, Bil...the HQ unit rush up to the slopes of Tame seemed a bit ballsy to me...but it's all good when it works! What's your plan for this team?
  16. Freyberg...even under these circumstances??? I think you're reaching a bit too far here...don't get carried away...
  17. Simple (dumb?) question here: Can "Scottish Corridor" be played as German against Allied AI?
  18. Wow...this is getting intense...let's see if those M-10s pay for their aggressive curiosity... And a bummer about that PzIV-H TC...one can never be too careful, eh? Remind us where your Elefant / Brumbar section is located?
  19. Thanks for the link, Broadsword. Yeah, I haven't upgraded to 2.01 yet, largely on the basis of the MG lethality update...too scary...
  20. I just wanted to give a little bump to this citation...an amazing set of small-unit action references! Endless enjoyment to be had here... A question, though: Where did you find the maps with this document? The PDF (and others on the site) only has the text with no map graphics. Thanks again!
  21. 50 years old...the addiction dates back to the mid-70s playing PanzerBlitz, PanzerLeader etc. with my older brother. Once SL/ASL came out, it was all over. Great to see so many 40+ folks out there! I guess the more recent generations are too busy achieving Prestige in Call of Duty...or they just don't have the patience for putting together a thoughtful company/battalion-sized assault on a fixed position...
  22. I would assume that a direct hit from an artillery shell, even of unknown calibre, on the rear deck would blow the s**t out of the vehicle! This doesn't seem to be the case...we have decent evidence to indicate that the turret was blown off sometime after the initial hit. So the artillery shell theory seems iffy...
  23. I hear ya. I don't remember hearing anything in the documentary about the Canucks ducking out of cover to take the shot...sounded to me like they just sat there behind the chateau walls, hull-down behind holes knocked through the masonry, and took their shots from around 150m. So at least part of the mystery remains... I am also intrigued by your discovery that most of the Canadian LOS to the southeast may have been blocked by some farm buildings that were not discussed in the documentary. So maybe they were indeed facing in a more easterly direction, thereby able to take 007 out with a rear flank shot? All speculation, to be sure... As always, George...keep up the stellar work! Thanks to you and others, I can enjoy these games even more by loading up on historical scenarios.
