why would a BFIST Bradley have such poor "matchup" with artillery?

Recommended Posts

I'm playing "The Screen Part 2" and I have a FIST-V (which I assume is my BFIST Bradley). He is part of a unit with a M1A2 SEP. Why does the BFIST have an X for matchup while the M1A2 has a +? The BFIST is dedicated to fire support, right? He has green C2 link to superiors.

This one has no FO inside. Just the basic crew of the vehicle. I can't select anyone but the vehicle, unless I were to use the Bail Out command.

My reading of the BFIST in the manual tells me that it's outfitted with technology that is geared toward calling fire support. What could be factoring against him?

I suppose that could be. In the mission, I'm just supposed to place the vehicle in one of two locations. I guess the FO will arrive later in a limousine or something. But it's true; maybe the crew is just there to operate the vehicle and the FO will arrive for the next part of the mission.

All crew members of a FIST-V are all 13Fs. They are all trained FOs. It is not like there is an MOS for 'FIST-V Crewman that is not part of the Fire Support Team'

Just like the crew on M2s are 11Bs (formally 11Ms before B,M, and H were all combined)

The vehicle commander of a FIST-V who has around 10 years of experience as an FO and is an SSG he is the NCOIC of the FIST, is more than capable of calling for fire. As well as each line platoon HQ should have an FO (SGT or high speed SPC) attached. Those are the guys that call the most fire missions.

Your FO was not killed in an earlier mission was he?

If there is a FIST vehicle it has a crew full of FOs. Everyone knows how to use the equipment, especially the NCO on the vehicle (he is the one who operates it anyways) A company's FIST team is made up of 6-8 13Fs and an Artillery Officer 3 of those are sliced out to the line platoons and the NCOIC, FIST officer (FO), and 2-3 joes to crew the vehicle.

A FIST assigned to an armored company is a little different, as there are not FISTers sliced out to each platoon.

If there is a FIST-V present, there is an FO present.

I am not sure what the problem is in your particular game, but normally a FIST Bradley, even without an FO team, can call in artillery fairly quickly, although a FO team inside the Bradley can usually call it in even quicker.

I am currently playing "Cry Havoc" PBEM in 1.32 and the FIST/FO combination in there works fine.

;1303835']I started a thread some time ago about the warrior mith the same capability. somebody did some testing. IIRC the vehicle did call in arty faster but it was a rather marginal effect. I think the range where these specilized vehicles really come into their own is way outside the size of CM maps.

On the top of my heard for larger calibre artillery the difference of not using a FIST vehicle and one can be about 6 minutes. The fire mission called in by the FIST will also be more accurate, requiring almost no spotting rounds.

Excuse me.

Just wandered in from CMBN forum. I keep coming over here to see if perhaps I could try CMSF. I have no experience with Modern Warfare.

I find a paragraph like the above completely incomprehensible to me. Will the manual which comes with the game give me an understanding of "FIST-V", "13F", "MOS", "NCOIC", etc?

A long shot, but is the FIST-V suppressed or has it suffered any damage?

Nope, not suppressed, no damage. He has good C2. I just don't understand why a specialized unit designed to call in artillery would have a red X matchup while the tank has a green + matchup. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Or shouldn't the FIST-V at least have a small + matchup if not a large +?
