rune
Anyone have a one color silhouette or link to that for an 1879 British Pith Helmet? Tryuing to get some custom dice made for another project and have not had luck finding anything like this. Type like the 24th Foot wore during the Zulu war. Thanks, Rune
Michael Emrys
Good lord, rune, are you trying to out-esoteric the rest of us? Michael
Affentitten
Unfortunately I have silhouettes for the 1877 and 1880 versions only.

gunnergoz
Pithy I can't help you further. Don't know if it will be useful, but these links are the best I could find: http://www.glosters.org.uk/collectionresults.php?from=&to=&category=7&campaign=&keywords=&chunk=100 http://www.rorkesdriftvc.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=630&sid=5f154836c3824c50a0ca71a634ca1c8a
rune
Thanks all, but not for the puns, it was enough punishment. Obviously for a board wargame, zulu wars and that is all I am allowed to say about it. Wanted to have some custom dice, but need the silhouette, which is not going well, photos I have tons of. Couldn't you make one using an appropriate picture or should there still be some details on the silhouette?
Michael Emrys
A silhouette, as in just the outline? rune
Laugh, they actually did not have kindergarten in the area when I was growing up, yes, not as old as Emrys [dirt isn't], but close. Rune

hoolaman
You could easily make one from this: http://wesclark.com/jw/zulu_brits.jpg
costard
How about this. A few to choose from here.
hoolaman
How's this, took about two minutes from the above pic.
costard
I think we have a winner, hoolaman. If you can't copyright it, let us know and we'll shame Rune into mailing you the equivalent of a slab.
Stalins Organ
How's this, took about two minutes from the above pic. Looks like a corker to me!
Michael Emrys
I thought it was made of pith, not cork. Michael
Stalins Organ
You've fallen for a pith-take old son They weer called pith helments, but the British ones were at least often, if not mostly, made with cork - as the wiki says, pith was replaced because cork is more durable.
Affentitten
How's this, took about two minutes from the above pic. I do actually think that's the later version. They standardised it in about 1890 and most of the examples you still see today are of that Boer War vintage.
costard
Aff, the painting is of the 92nd Highlanders fighting in Afghanistan in 1879. The artist could well be wrong with this detail but the odds are against it. 1879, pith helmet, historical source, great work by the hoolaman: what's not to like?
Affentitten
It's the khaki that worries me. Plus the fact that the painting is painted some years after the battle by someone who was not there. Indeed it contains all the classic problems of painted history. So you're in London and you get people to model for your painting....in the contemporary helmet.
